Title: Animal skins discussion
Post by: Vanth on July 06, 2010, 02:08:52 PM
If you'd like to ask questions or comment on the changes to animal hides, skins, and pelts as described in this announcement: http://www.zalanthas.org/gdb/index.php/topic,39126.0.html

...please do so here.

Also, from the Weekly Update:
Quote07/06/2010: Updated sdesc of hides so that all tanned hides look different from untanned -- Vanth

All I gotta say is. Vanth is pretty awesome.  :-[

No questions. Sorry.  ;D

I don't know if this part of 'help tanning' applies anymore with these changes, so you might consider changing or removing it:

Note:
Some hides are substantially more difficult and time-consuming to
tan than others.  In some cases, only close examination will distinguish
a tanned hide from its untanned version.

Interesting change though. Thanks.

I'm in favor of it. I'll be interested in seeing how the 'new' versions of different hides weigh up when Vanth is done.

....while you're at it, Vanth, can you pack a little more meat in a mek? Really, for the size of the creatures there should be more meats coming from them. But that's a different discussion, I suppose.

Not to mention bahamet meat.

I'm in favor of this. I remember playing a merchant way back and having to sort hides... brrr. That was a pain.

I am sure she will be doing meat items next.

She seems to be going down the list of awesome things to fix.

Though most animals I found are pretty good on the whole getting shit from them departing via skinning. Minus bahamet, mekillots, or the other huge animals.
They should have more meat coming form them.

How should we point out anything we think is in error?  Here?  Via the request tool?

For instance, one hide jumps from 10 to 30 stone when tanned.    : )

I haven't finished yet, took a break for lunch (http://www.in-n-out.com/).  So, after I'm done, I don't think there'll be any weirdnesses like that, but if there are, typoing in game is good.

In-N-Out Burger, really?

Is that right next to the Kum-N-Go Gas Station?

Ok, these should all be done.  If you weren't logged in this afternoon when I did the fixes, and you had a hide on your PC somewhere while logged off at that time, you may have a hide that needs changing.  Submit a reimbursement request in that case.  But all hides in rooms, etc. should be fixed, and any newly-skinned or tanned hides should come up with the new versions.

So you said only a few raw hides would be getting just a bit bigger? Cause noticing some major differences. A container that had plenty of room in it yesterday I had to take 10 hides out of to make it so there was room in it again.

I believe some raw hides only gain a small amount, but some raw hides gained a large amount of weight.

Tanned hides seemed to dropped more in weight. And its nice that they are not the same damn sdescs anymore and noticeable.

Yes, in the announcement I said nothing would be gaining more than 1-2 stones, and that ended up being untrue.  A few hides did gain more than that, maybe as much as 5 or 6 stones.  But there were other hides that are now 10-25 stones lighter than before.  Generally speaking, small and very large hides both got lighter, while some medium-sized hides got heavier.  You should find that there is more consistency, where two animals of about the same size now have hides of about the same weight.
