The only time I've ever used the Way for OOC messages is when I come back from being linkdead with someone in my head. A quick "psi ((Was linkdead, sorry, could you resend?))" is easier than trying to explain going linkdead IC.
edit: Uh, yeah, I really meant to include a question in this post. However, I'm retarded, and wasn't able to edit the post when I realized how retarded I really am. My question to the staff was: is such a use acceptable?
I feel there is certainly a time when it's appropriate to use OOC in a psi: when two people who aren't within close proximity of each other are attempting to coordinate a meeting in-game, and -would- use the OOC command if they were in the same room. Also if someone reconnects and missed something, I don't think it's a bad thing to -continue- using the Way and adding an ooc to ask them to resend.
However, I've experienced a few times, when someone was in the same room my character was in, and their player chose to use contact/psi -specifically- to circumvent the OOC command. I found that to be very jarring, especially since the ooc command would've done the job. In summary, I don't feel psi/way should -ever- be used specifically as a replacement for the OOC command, however I do appreciate that sometimes there is no logical alternative.
I have used OOC on the Way as a means of relaying RPT dates to other clan leaders. They need to know that information in order to organize their players. Otherwise, that's about it.
As with any OOC, it should be used as sparingly as possible.
I will continue to "psi ooc: jan.16 at 6pm est" to alert people who may be a long ways away what time the RPT starts.
I'm going to just going to pretend I didn't hear this (http://www.zalanthas.org/gdb/index.php/topic,37485.0.html) as far as those necessities are concerned.
Official policy is that it's non-kosher, but I'll be damned if it ain't useful. I usually do GDB PMs instead if I can, but you don't always know who's who.
I do it when I feel it's necessary to do. Sometimes it just is.
Same here, yar yar.

psi We're going to take over the world about this time next week (OOC: 8PM EST Tomorrow)
Is a lot closer to acceptable than:
psi (OOC: 8PM EST tomorrow work for you?)
I believe "psi OOC: Lost link after you sent 'You want me to kill Lord Tightpants?!'." is always acceptable, right?

I usually resend the last psi I sent. I've never had someone not catch on.
Doesn't the gone command not inform people the other end of as psi link that you're away? So isn't it acceptable just psi "gone afk a few minutes" if something quickly arrises?
Or you could use an existing command in that case. "Cease" will cut off the psi connection; contact can reinstate it. I can't imagine why you'd need to inform someone you are afk over the way.

They might get angry and punish you for not answering them. Though then I suppose it would be better to log off. But then they can think you are just ignoring them. Or maybe you aren't near a quit room.
I can think of many instances when informing someone you're in the middle of a mind-talk with that you're AFK might keep your character alive!
