Title: Code Ideas Inspired by the Princess Bride
Post by: path on October 15, 2009, 01:33:13 PM
I'll go first. Resistance to poison.

BUTTERCUP - To think -- all that time it was your cup that was poisoned.

MAN IN BLACK - They were both poisoned. I spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder.

Torture devices that potentially do permanent (or long-term, difficult to heal) damage to the PC, rather than only being usable for death.

Introduce an additional stage of health following mortally wounded:

-10 to -20 health: mostly dead

The man in a black cloth mask is laying on the ground, mostly dead.

Good one!

Some kind of code option (mask? conceal?) that allows PCs to hide their true identity in order to assume another identity, or even fool loved ones.

A particularly nasty location that has a room echo like 1-2 ticks before something violent happens.

You hear a sound like gas escaping from the ground.

.
Flames burst up from the ground filling the air briefly before dissipating.
<everyone in the room takes 15 health damage>

Oh and ROUSes should be here to.... but I don't think they really exist!

The muscular, dark-haired man has arrived from the east.

You say, in sirihish:

Superman removes a pair of wire-frame spectacles.

It's not really in, because no one will actually notice you're doing it--if you're the Sergeant and you're training a recruit, it won't make a noticeable difference to have a weapon in your offhand instead of primary hand. There aren't sufficient coded ways to put yourself at a significant combat disadvantage that are not just stupid.

The spindly young recruit reels from the blow!
The rugged, muscular sergeant sits down.
The rugged, muscular sergeant drops a crude bone sparring fork.
The rugged, muscular sergeant drops a wooden crutch.
The rugged, muscular sergeant shouts, in sirihish,
  "Corp'ral, the casks! quick!"
The massive, tattooed half-giant gives a large wooden cask to the rugged, muscular sergeant.
The massive, tattooed half-giant gives a large wooden cask to the rugged, muscular sergeant.

The rugged, muscular sergeant hits the spindly young recruit on the neck, doing frightening damage.

ROFL, brytta. Completely.

What we need is a "spar" command that, when engaged in, will make both PCs use their full defensive ability, but will peg the offensive ability of the more-skilled PC at equivalent to the less-skilled PC (or +5% or something). Then during the fight if either PC decides to go for it, they type "kill" and it's a real fight.

Kay, me next. Ability to ride two people to a mount.

BUTTERCUP - I thought you were dead once, and it almost destroyed me. I could not bear it if you died again, not when I could save you.

Westley is dazed. Silent.

Buttercup tries to speak again, can't, and is swooped off her feet onto Humperdinck's horse, and off they go.

If you're really that good, you can spar newbs while EP'ing a shield with no weapon in your ES hand.  That way they can at least get a few swings at you before you knock them out, heh.

Of course, eventually you have to progress to strapping a log across your back while fighting them completely unarmed vs. weapons.  But that's just me bragging.  :)

Blindfolds!

Stepping past the corpse, taking the blindfold and bindings off Buttercup, who notices Vizzini lying dead.

The Man In Black pulls her to her feet.

BUTTERCUP    Who are you?

MAN IN BLACK    I am no one to be trifled with, that is all you ever need know.

It's just the mere fact that you have to do such ridiculous things to hold yourself back in combat.

That's what the problem is.

When you etwo a shield, you still somehow manage to swing a single-hand punch, if I recall correctly.

It you really don't want to fight back just disengage and tell them to keep attacking you.

The short male in the black mask subdues you, despite your attempts to get away!

The short male in the black mask applies pressure to your throat, choking your blood supply!

You struggle in vain against the short male wearing a black mask.

You struggle in vain against the short male wearing a black mask.

That and the partial death torture device would be awesome additions to the game.

I honestly thought people were referring to The Princess Diaries movie.

The ability to be repeatedly stabbed, past the point of absurdity, and still track down your assailant - if your background has laid the death of a parent at the foe's feet.  To keep the skill balanced, you must enter a well-rehearsed chant every fifteen seconds.
