You dust off a red-painted bone footlocker. As we've got pretty nattered recently about the twin problems of
finding people and
knowing that people aren't dead, how's this for an easy improvement?
- Make all locker items (or all container items, if that's easier) collect dust after not being opened or closed for 1 RL day.
- Optionally, cause the dust to be removed when the container is opened.
Sporeplant, I owe yeh one.
This is a pretty cute idea.... I dig the idea of having things collect dust.

This will also function as an alarm bell if I open someone else's locker :P
But I like the idea.
Neat idea.
That's a nice workaround.
Now think of one for tribes, brytta. :P
I'm not sure I like the prospect of people having to dust off their character's crap to maintain a virtual presence.
I know that my characters have codedly gone very long periods of time without opening owned containers, though virtually they'd probably do so fairly often.

A dusty yellow spice pipe is lying here.
A dusty blue spice pipe is lying here.
A dusty green spice pipe is lying here.
I chuckled a bit at that.
Maybe dust could accumulate at a slower rate? Say, a RL week instead of a RL day...

Yeah, that's probably more useful.
In my perfect little world, there would be varying levels of dust:
A dusty red bone footlocker is here.
> assess red.locker
A foul stench clings to this item.
It looks large enough to smuggle home a nursling gith under sarge's very nose.
It is covered with a fine layer of dust.
Later:
It is covered with a layer of dust.
It is covered with a thick layer of dust.
It is covered with a thick layer of dust and grime.
...
Oh... I like that idea. Especially if you make it a RL week.
Also: A new stealth/manipulation/whatever skill could be implemented allowing a skilled <guild> to open and close containers without disturbing the collecting/settled dust.

I support this idea. And being able to smuggle nursling gith in containers.
