Title: Magick in Red Storm
Post by: Jingo on January 14, 2009, 04:40:36 PM
My understanding has always been that Redstorm allows magickers but no casting inside the gates.

I think the IG Redstorm bulletin board clarifies.

What the hell, Nyr?

I'm just trying to remind people to READ THE DOCS.

Here, I'll repost what's FROM THE DOCS without the snarkiness.  Sheesh.

P.S. I was in Red Storm [doing something IC that shouldn't really be publicized on the GDB].  Then I caught myself wondering, "Wait a sec...does this make sense?"  So I read the docs and I was like, "Whoops, that was pretty fucking stupid of me...hey, maybe I'll help some fellow players out and remind them that Red Storm has just as harsh a policy toward magick as does Tuluk."  I'm not complaining about anybody's RP, because I made the same goddamn mistake, myself.

Quote from: From the fucking docs
What effect does starting location have on a magicker character?

If you start in Allanak, you will have to decide whether or not your character will register with the templarate as an elementalist. Although the Labyrinth in Allanak is lawless, it is by no means a haven for magickers like it might be for other criminals. The common fear of and hatred for magickers is as common there as it is in many other parts of the Known World. Most of the other cities on Zalanthas, such as Tuluk and Red Storm, outlaw magick use and therefore your character will need to mask his or her abilities.

/Relevant portion emboldened.

Actually, to be specific, I believe it is the -use of- magick which is frowned upon in Red Storm, not actually being a magicker.  This is true in lots of other places, also.  Tuluk, otoh, is quite a bit more serious about it.

Here's Krrx's old post from the Red Storm IC board:
Magick and mindbending are both banned in Red Storm Village. Anyone noticed trying to cast spells or use mindbending influences will be dealt with very harshly.

The last part of it looked pretty IC-specific as well as snarky, so I moderated it out, similar to the part I moderated out of your OP here.  I hadn't finished the e-mail to you about it by the time you reposted.  Sorry about that.

I've often wondered about this since I have not played many characters in Red Storm, thanks for the clarification.

Playing a gemmer, I wouldn't go down there unless I were a Whiran or from utmost need. Why?

You're safe inside so long as you don't try anything funny, but what happens not ten steps outside Red Storm, stays outside Red Storm.

That, my dear Yam, is exactly what I meant.

I thought magickers and the use of magicks were outlawed. Wow. You learn something new everyday.

X-D doesn't play gemmers. He plays level 80 ret paladins that ended up in Zalanthas.

X-D rocks my socks when it comes to magickers.  I've never been able to reach his level of kickassedness with a magicker... though I do believe my magickers are more useful for purposes other than killing everything that moves. ;)

Hahaha.

And everyone complained about Delerak/Running Mountain.

Hahahahahahaha.

What were we talking about again?

If you are comparing X-D to Delerak/runningmountain, you are sadly mistaken my friend.
In comparison, Delerak was a humongous turd to staff and players alike, and did not role-play, he only skill-trained.

X-D is just a hardcore role-player who rolls up some explosive concepts that rock the socks of all involved.

Anybody remember Tuk and Kon Malarn? The kickass dwarves, turned Salarr after the fall of their tribe? (Yes it was over a RL year ago)
That was me and X-D, I'm sure you can figure out which one he played.

Anyway, back on topic - Magickers allowed, Magick denied in red storm.

Locking this thread because it's served its purpose and has gotten derailed into silliness.
