Title: Slight Emote additions and changes
Post by: mansa on November 12, 2008, 09:48:45 PM
Hi.

I think that it would be an excellent addition to the game, if the game autoparsed a 's into %.  Here is an example:

Person A: the tall, muscular man
Person B: the short, fat woman

emote pushes away ~fat's sword.

Currently, for the short, fat woman, it will echo this:

the tall, muscular man pushes away you's sword.

It would be smart if the game interpreted 's into %, so that it will echo this to the short, fat woman:

the tall, muscular man pushes away your sword.

I mean, sometimes, people forget to use %.

*****************************

Currently, you cannot use a keyword as the First word in an emote.  You cannot:

~pillar towering before !me, @ trudges down the ancient, silt-covered roadway.
~pipe falling from ^me limp fingers, @ slumps back on ~couch with a contented sigh.

I've heard some justification that you cannot use ~ as the first word in an emote, because you can "disguise" an emote and mistake it as an emote from someone else.
However, you can still do that in game anyways, with simply typing out the whole short description of the person.

And it will look awesome in your logs of your characters.  You could almost publish a log with excellent grammar and first person emotes.

Also, in addition to smart code that automatically interprets:
>emote looks to ~woman's weapon
to
>emote looks to %woman weapon

It should also interpret:
>emote nods to ~woman and looks at !woman's weapon
to
>emote nods to ~woman and looks at ^woman weapon

Sometimes more options is too confusing.  I'm not saying to get -rid- of it, I'm just saying that to those who don't know about it yet, make the code fix it for them.
