Title: Favorite Clan
Post by: Krath on October 21, 2008, 10:23:19 AM
I am wondering, what everyone's favorite clan was, and if the story is over an rl year old tell the defining moment
that made it your top pick.

My favorite clan experiences were with Kadius and the Jul Tavan, sadly they were both within the last year, so no i can share. :(

House Oash.

My two most long-lived characters were in it.

The two most defining moments that I feel are appropriate to recount are in the logs section under my name.  :)

The Tzai Byn, especially when Sujaal ran it. Getting my sargeant stripes from him...hard man to serve under but hella lot of fun.

The Soh Lanah Kah have a special place in my heart. I loved them back when Masha was the big bad ghost of the tablelands and ever since.

Edit: And after thinking some more I have to add Blackmoon.

My favourite mentionable clan is Kurac, probably because I've never been there for a long period of time. 'tis a romance thing.

I take it all back. Arm of the Dragon, and you know who you are.

The T'zai Byn.

Getting my sergeant's stripes was probably one of the coolest things ever.

Being a newb and falling into holes while wearing said sergeant's stripes and having to get all my runners to come rescue me.

That dwarf "Blue" (I think? Or was his name House?) that was totally obsessed about making an awesome house. There was
this one emote that he did one time about his eyes glazing over happily as he pans his hand over the horizon
or something while talking about how phat his house is going to be. It just blew my mind. He just could not stop talking about it
and would get "house attacks" at the most inopportune times. Once I threw a bowl of stew at him while he was going on about
it and he didn't even notice.

There was this one time we got told by something really scary that it would eat our braaaaainz.

Sewer horror busted out of the latrines a few times. We killed it once and I tried to get all my unit to help me drag it out on the
street for a parade or something, but it dissolved before we could. There was this one half-giant in my unit who made this
retarded half-giant noise while attacking it, and I could not stop laughing IRL. It was like "RAAAAARRRRGH" or something.

T'zai Byn.

My first REAL char was Thalina. She was there WAAAY back in the day. Before Sujaal. With Zak and Stevith.

Most of my Arm friends come from that group of people I played with then. I miss you guys!!

Also, Kadius!! Thal ended up in Kadius. As did nearly all of my other Bynners. (So apparently talking to Ender while typing this made me type ender instead of ended. I'm special.)

Tia, who went in a fun silt horror hunt on a skimmer with Sujaal and that gang. She ended up working for Kadius as Head Hunter and crafter. Under... Domani Kadius I think. Damn spice, it kills a lot of Kadians. Don't take spice into Nak people! HG will kill you.

Nahfari, who also ended up Head Hunter. I -think- she almost ended up working as a merchant too at one point... That may have been Tia...

Oh, and of course my Kadian family member. The jaupper-bosomed woman. Enthatril. My favorite sdesc EVER.

So Byn and Kadius.... Though Fale is my mothership. I AM Fale.

And Karianna was the most awesome imm EVER! She made Fale fun.

I will always love old Blackwing because it made me love the game, but since they're what they were...
Kurac.

Love Kurac and really can't say why... it's been far more than a year, but I don't know how many people know the story I'd tell either way, so it's best if I don't.

Elan Pah Alliance

Having my first ever desert elf experience the struggles of the Tablelands last year was a great thing. It was tough and hard, often deeply frustrating but also very, very interesting to be part of the EPA. It gave me a perspective on some things in Armageddon and Zalanthas that I believe would have been hard to come by in another environment, time and clan.

Arm of the Dragon, and you know who you are.

Hell yeah. I'm of the opinion that it's the crew that makes the clan, and that was the crew. AoD certainly has some other points in its favor; simply the fact of being the first responders in a city where there's lots of conflict potential, being in on all the plots run by the templarate, and having the crim code for backup. Under the right leadership, the AoD has all the grit of the Byn, and all the military discipline of Tor, making it IMO better than either ;)

But ultimately, it was the crew. And I think that's true for any clan experience.

Others: I love Bards of Poets' Circle for its depth of culture and the sheer freedom and potential in a bard's role. Other clans with deep culture are also awesome.

Looking at just the clan and not the players, I can't say I have a favorite...but if I could mix and match, it would be House Lyksae, Tzai Byn, and Kurac mixed together.
Summary of my limited experience so far:

Tuluk:
House Lyksae - Works very well with my playing style I think.

GMH: Kurac - The atmosphere and uniqueness of the clan.

Other: Tzai Byn - Just the whole mercenary mentality is enjoyable for me.

If you count out the players in the clan at the time, I just like playing the professional, bad-ass, spice-smok'n warrior characters.
...
...
...At least for now.  8)

With players included, I can't say, as the experience is always unique.

Tzai Byn easy.

Anytime I'm standing there with two stripes on my arm thinking. WTF?!! We where there, now we're here, who was tha', why are we here, where is here, how did we get here, HOLY SHIT THAT DUDE JUST LOST AN ARM!

And yeah, beyond the RP experiences that I've not yet come close to repeating. It's really the people. Not sure if I'm suppose to drop names or not but Fathi, Fnord, X-D, and Kreig's Byn Sergeants are most defianatly the reason I stuck with and eventually became addicted to this game.

It's great players that make this a great game and I can think of no other clan that will allow total N00b$ to interact with some hawt Rp'rs with such regularity.

I'm going to break away and say that any Clan can be awesome.

It just depends on the people currently within and the leaders who are setting up stuff.

Just a few months ago, House Kadius was one've the most wicked Clans I've been in.

A few weeks ago - People IG and on the forums are complaining about never finding a Byn Recruiter.

So it could really go both ways.

Awesome people/staff = Awesome adventures.

Tzai Byn - My first clan, and what sucked me into this crazy game

House Tor - Had a great time with them...oh four years back or so. Played a dwarven Sergeant for the Academy.

House Kurac - Atmosphere, badassery, and overall amazing clan

Also a big fan of the al'Seik: neat documentation, awesome atmosphere

My two favorite clans were the T'zai-Byn and the Rebellion.

Both of these clans had two compelling features: the people and the environment.  They were both extremely functional in their design, wasting very little space on unnecessary roads, paths, buildings, or rooms.  This kept everyone bunched together and frequently interacting.  The atmosphere of both locations really allowed you to get into character and "feel" the part of a grizzled mercenary serving as a cog in the wheel of this rough and tumble machine, or as the outlaw rebel scrapping out an existence behind the camouflaged walls of your wilderness hideout with little more between you and the harsh elements but your freedom.

To those that have shared these spaces with me in the past, it was a grand and memorable adventure.

House Oash - Love my murdering with a hint of subtly, a splash of wince-inducing magicks, and a small dash of politics.

Byn- Too many stories to recount. One feeling of absolute awe I recall is of watching one of the younger runners getting dragged away in the night by a mantis (a few years back) and sitting in silence with the survivors in the dark.  Recall the feeling that each mission was just another roll of the dice, until your turn to die came up. Always being the first ones in, and the last ones out. It really established the theme of Arm for me as a eariler player (being that the character couldn't really have 'friends', since it was too painful to watch them die time after time). Was probably one of my favorite roles.

Arm of the Dragon - Super-sekrit plots combined with the fear of thinking your tongue will fall out if you try to talk to anyone about it? Count me in.
Title: Re: Favorite Clan
Post by: Fathi on October 21, 2008, 04:32:48 PM
Concept-wise I would have to say Kurac or House Lyksae. People who have seen the documentation or played extensively in both or either will know why. My actual experience playing in Kurac was excruciatingly boring and awful, but I think that was more to do with the timing of when I joined the clan than any failings with the structure or design of it.

The Byn will always feel like the heart and soul of Zalanthas to me. The Sunrunners will always have a special place in my heart as far as Best Delves Evar.

The '07-to-'08 Class of House Salarr had its own unique flavour of intrigue that was like playing in a book you just couldn't put down. Though I chalk that up more to the jaw-dropping quantity and quality of its roleplayers and not to any inherent awesomeness in the concept itself.

In fact, I'd say '07 was just a great year for the Merchant Houses all around.

T'zai Byn, because it was the clan that popped my Arm cherry. It hurt so good. I got in when there were a lot of great players, so that always helps. Also, I really liked the clan structure and the layout of their holdings. Had some great Imm support, too!

Tor was cool, for the brief time I was in it. Cool documentation, and the academy is awesome.

Council of Allanaki Mages, because I like the clan structure and find the concept interesting. Great players, too.

I've enjoyed my experience in Kurac, Arm of the Dragon, the Byn, Council of Allanaki Mages, and various independent groups/gangs in the main cities/'rinth (although those aren't official clans, but they deserve to be mentioned). Most of the clans I don't like, I haven't played in.

The T'zai Byn for all the reasons listed above and more. There was something uniquely special about signing up as a Runner at the same time as a half dozen other raw recruits, and seeing who was still alive a year later. Not to mention the bonds that would form.

Soh Lanah Kah.  From the time, long before it was a codded tribe, to the times after, it's been a fun place.

Council Of Allanaki Mages.  Having had the chance to play several characters in it, and leave a lasting impression on not just the player base (some of you, anyway), but on Zalanthas it's self, left me with a warm feeling.

CAM - I've had the pleasure (and, occasionally, displeasure) of running many characters in this clan. I count myself lucky to have been integral in it's early stages.

Kurac - Haven't played with 'em for awhile, but it was truly epic in it's heyday.

Salarr - Was lucky enough to be around during one of the greatest times (arguably) in this clan's history, and played alongside some amazing characters. You know who you are.

Ptar Ken - Demonstrated to me a completely different facet of Zalanthan culture, and pushed my RP talents to the absolute maximum.

Oh my god, I loved that dwarf - he was hilarious.  I met him with my character who was called Door.  Needless to say, he was thrilled by the architectural nature of her name, and had a house attack for like half an hour.  And she had blue hair, so it was like, love at first sight for the guy.  Kudos to you, blue dwarf.  Whoever you were.

Kadius has been good to me.

The T'zai Byn. Playing with Bela the Butcher, Sujaal, Zak, Tears, and getting fucked up by numerous byn units while I was in Tor, SLK, Lyksae, Kadius, and Salarr proves that no clan is better. I have had more fun cleaning latrines, learning, and experiencing in the byn than the rest of the game. It is that damn awesome.

Im not even going to say Salarr. The Merchant House is a completely different animal from what the Expansion Division was.

I actually, now that I think of it, had a thorough 'Murder Intrigue Betrayal' character with that group. I don't think any other character would fully embody those traits than the one I had with the Expansion Division. Also having every possible inch of his body getting tattooed, some parts two or three times when he thought he saw a better one that could cover up the old. Will never forget dancing naked down caravan way while blitzed drunk, on the same day he followed someone home and killed them for bad mouthing one of his superiors under his breath.

Being a Southern Templar was a crap load of fun. Gim, you rocked. As for someone else, wow man, one of the best deaths ever!

Byn Sergeant is pretty incredible, even if I did lead my crew into the middle of a 'Your Really Fucked Now' sort of sandstorm to miss 90% of a big RPT.

One particular independent mage group. The core few that there were with me at one particular time and no matter how many came and left through the course of it all, you guys all rocked.

Tuluk in general, the Faithful, Chosen, Merchants and Indies. You rock. Especially the First, you guys are great.

SLK, because I -almost- killed Masha before there was an SLK. Glad I didn't now!

Tor, because of one particular Tor noble who will go unmentioned.

T'zai Byn.

Get a chance to see some of the most interesting RP in the game there. Get to see all sorts of different places. A massive variety of players that make it fun. And even when it was mind-numbingly frustrating at some times, it was still awesome. My only gripe would be the repetitiveness between awesome missions and -not a OOC year shouldn't talk-.

House Salarr. My favorite pc was in Salarr along with a couple of my favorite characters that I had the pleasure of playing with for over a RL year. Played a new character with that clan through the fall of Luir's and through the mantis occupation and for some time after the hordes were defeated and Luir's was reclaimed. There are probably way too many stories with that character to tell without missing alot of good stuff.

My second favorite staff run clan was the Sun Legions/Tuluki Templarate.

Salarr Expansion Division, for its intrigue, its badassery, its never-say-die, its extensive reach, its "rofl what" moments, its ability to cause two to three people a WEEK to ditch their former clans to join (that was a CRAZY time), and its inauguration of the SEEDS unit.

Yar.

I had the chance to be both in the Arm and in the Salarr Expansion Division when those two clans were at their most recent peak of awesomeness.  I would say that was a bitchin' experience, though I also have lots of love for House Fale and House Kadius.

I think the players in certain clans make the clans awesome, rather than it being a trait of the clans themselves.

I've had some great clan experiences and some horrible ones.  But I keep coming back, and the good ones were really great.

The three favorites are easy for me: Kurac, Lyksae, and CAM.  But I think a lot of it comes from being in certain clans at the right time, and certain other ones at the wrong time.

My FAVORITE clan is T'zai Byn. With 200 active pcs or with 2. Nothing says gritty then being on your hands and knees scrubbing piss and shit with a smile because you know it is better than being out there on your own.

Favorite Clan group: House Winrothol with Everyone that was there with Lieutenant Kestine and Sergeant Seeque and then Sujaal coming north and opening the academy! Man that core group is what made me finally understand what RPing was all about, that summer of 2000. It forever changed my RP. You all know who you are, but maybe one day, we will all be in the same clan again!

Haruch Kemad - If you don't think there is a political underbelly besides the Guild in the Labyrinth, you are horribly wrong. HK opened my eyes to the depth behind some of the elven families, and introduced me to --

The "N-Tr" - You know who you are. We were awesome.

The Guild - Despite times that may have seemed twink-ish, I actually thoroughly enjoyed this clan and all that it stood for.

Expansion Division - Between ass-stabbery, pantless groping while unconscious, discovering mysterious secrets in far off lands, or discovering just how insane we were, this is by far one of the most hilarious and lasting clan experiences I have had in Arm.

House Lyksae - Thanks to the players, this clan has turned out to be one of the most fleshed out, developed, culturally rich clans ever to exist. Kudos to that!

I guess I should append my earlier post to specify that most of my Salarr experiences were in the Expansion Division, although a good deal of them were in plain jane vanilla House Salarr as well.

Not that playing in Salarr was ever a particularly vanilla experience.

And though it doesn't quite count as a clan itself, I've always thought the Jihaen Order was a really badass concept.

Like most of this game, staying alive (or staying in the clan) long enough to form relationships is where the fun is.  And the memories....

For me there is only one clan that holds the highest honor of being first in my heart and that's...

House Kadius - Thanks to a particular Senior Agent, another Senior Agent I had by chance played another MUD with years back and just a bad ass crew beneath me and a certain mul who took me under his wing.... man I fucking loved it and learned the game and some of it's intricacies there.  I mean really... really... fucking awesome.

T'zai Byn - Though I've never stayed after my first year (one day I will) I learned the ropes within this clan.  I mean, before the Byn I didn't realize that people hung out at the bar more at night then day and I just wandered around willy-nilly without using the time command.  Hell yea for a schedule.

Salarr - Loved the short time I spent there... enough to come right back and then store over realizing it's not the best idea to try to recreate the same character after dying.

Definitely Kadius Circa the past two years up till a few months ago.

Nearly every day was gut-wrenching, edge of your seat awesomesauce.

Before I suicided my character for -horribly- OOC reasons (the results of which anger me to this day), I had probably my most fun in Kadius. The players at the time, plus the amazing long-lived characters that just seemed to know more than I ever could about the world... they all blew my mind.

Maybe I'll join them again some day, who knows, but they are definitely tops in my world.

Muark. My most moving moments came in this clan. I forget exactly what happened, but a clan-mate was -really- down and sat with me for awhile. I sang them a sad song (even though I'm a shit-tastic bard and it was made up on the fly). The echoes of the home area were going off as the sun went down and I sang to my friend's sorrows. My most vivid arm memory. Good stuff.

THE FUCKING BYN. I've probably had twenty Byn characters over the eight-odd years I've played. Fun stuff.

The Guild. This was my first 'leader' position of any sort and, despite being woefully inadequate to the task, we robbed, looted, stole, murdered, smoked spice, screwed militiamen's women, knifed influential citizens, and generally did whatever the fuck we wanted to without regard to the consequences. And then was killed by a Sork, when any two-day Byn would have been enough to see me dead, since the char was ALL bluff and had never really sparred or practiced in his entire life. I always wondered what this char's death cost the hit-buyers.

I'd say the Rebellion was hands down the most enjoyable clan I've ever played in.  It was fun having Allanak as an enemy because they were the oppressors (and it was fun for the players of Allanak to have someone to oppress); there was someone to hate and for very good reason, someone to hide from and someone to plot against.  Nowadays (and in pre-rebellion times) the Tuluk vs. Allanak dichotomy feels more akin to having team spirit - by that I mean that my reason to hate or oppose the other side is simply because they are the other side.

In more recent years, and this is still some ways back at this point, I'd say Borsail has housed my more memorable moments in a clan.  In this instance it was more a matter of who was inolved with or in the clan itself rather than any specific dynamics which the clan had to offer over others.

I liked Kadius, the Guild, Borsail, Blackmoon, Rebellion.

Byn has been fun, and Oash was interesting, but short for my playtime.

The Northern Noble Houses, I haven't had much experience yet, but I hope to in the future.

I might be biased..

Blackwing was my favorite.

Soh. (They have to be here, I must've spent 5-6 years of my 10 year period as an Arm player in this tribe.

Blackmoon lingers on the list for sure.

I'm curious to the age of that char.

I'm on my 2nd Soh. The first Soh pc, Masha more or less lived long enough to draw some talented
players together and get the tribe coded (between 2-3 years).

Arm of the Dragon is my number one. Quite a number of great experiences there.

Soh Lanah Kah, House Tenneshi, and the Sun Legion are the next.

Soh rocks. Probably a second on my list.
