Title: New Idea: Attach
Post by: fourTwenty on October 05, 2008, 02:04:20 PM
Probably to late for Arm but maybe 2.Arm.

I think it would be cool if certain items could be attached to the exterior of a pack. Items like a spare pair of boots, a rolled up tent, a shovel (yeah I'm looking at an old Army pack right now). I think it would be a neat idea, it should still add weight to your PC but not count against space in the bag. Of course, there should be a limit to how much shit can be attached to a pack. Also, you could make it only certain packs and certain items that will work for this.

Just an idea.

Kind of like a belt wear location on your pack. Make it three of them; I like this.

Me, too.  Perhaps to limit this (since I know the imms don't want people carrying absurd amounts of items), only certain packs might have hooks to which to attach items, but to have it around would be fantastic.

Yes, this would be a great idea. It could work exactly like how sashes and the like work currently.

That is a great idea!  Then we could charge double or triple for packs that come with a rare "rope cord".  Hell, you could charge even more than what is charged for "a strip of sandcloth that acts as a mask".

Meh.

It is trivial to latch things to a backpack.  If someone wants to strap three swords to their pack and don't mind the weight, I would be happy to give them the benefit of the doubt that they can figure out a way to do.

Rindan's post made me think of this addition...

You shouldn't be able to draw from this location or remove shit while fighting.

More targets for pickpockets.  I like it.

You aren't with any wear location that's not sheathed. That's a long way of saying, "In general, I agree."

That said, I think (to generalize it a bit more), you should be able to disengage, remove whatever you're wearing, and then re-engage, with appropriate command lag for the removing. (Ripping off a waterskin will take less time than taking off your pants).

This would represent you not caring so much about comment as getting that thing off of you RIGHT NOW, and you should take an appropriate beating to reflect your diverted attention.

I would like to see it so that certain large-ish items can ONLY be 'attached' to the outside of a pack, as opposed to put inside it. This will be more possible now that Arm 2 is going to have size and weight restrictions on items.

I hate seeing people remove tents and spears from backpacks unless they emote the item being tied to the outside or something.

If I have a large item in my backpack, I RP that it is tied to the pack itself, when I am trudging around the pack on my back.

I believe that Fathi, and myself, would like that to be enforced. It would open up pickpockets a little more.

I agree on both counts.

I don't care for this idea.  I think it's problematic.

How do you think that, Ibusoe?

Problematic from a code perspective?
Problematic from a RP perspective?

Please clarify.

I personally like the idea, as long as it's realistically limited to certain types and weights of items.  I just don't want to see someone walking around with a bahamet corpse hanging off of a rope on the side of his backpack  ;)

Excellent idea.
