Title: Possesive emote suggestion
Post by: jalden on October 01, 2008, 10:39:03 PM
Looking around at Shadows of Isildur (cool stuff-- but still think this is the better game)...  I noticed that they use 's for possessive emotes instead of the % command.

So instead of writing :pats %child back -----  You would write :pats ~child's back

In SOI the latter gives exactly the same output as the former does in Arm.  I think ~ is pretty straightforward, but % is a little bit odd.  At least for me, sometimes I have to stop and think about it.  Using 's is more intuitive.

It does require two extra characters though :)

Once I remembered which outputs what I stopped having to think about it. Keep the helpfile on the website open to that page until you've got it memorized. I don't think it's something worth changing.

Isn't this already implemented?  I use it all the time.

emote kisses ~kank's delicate ankle.

Quoteemote kisses ~kank's delicate ankle.

It is but it isn't.  If you used that on another person they would see: sdesc kisses you's hand.  You would have to use % to get them to see the right thing.

That's only good if you're trying to add a New-York Italian'ish flavor to your emotes..

emote kisses you's delicate ankle.

Oh man ... I do this ALL the time. ><

One more habit to break, knowhatimean?  I'll break it like a knee-cap wit a baseball bat.

The short, furry man kisses your shell.

I'm pretty sure that + is 'yours' because I've just recently learned about it.

I'm not sure what = do.. I use % for 'your'.

+ makes others see it as his/hers
= makes other see it as the sdesc + 's (ex: the short furry man's)

Command...
>em lowers her hand gently away from =slender

Output to the room...
>The krath-tanned, dark eyed lass lowers her hand gently away from the slender, blonde-curled man's.

What the target sees...
>The krath-tanned, dark eyed lass lowers her hand gently away from yours.

To further clarify, =/+ would be used like this:

>:places his hand over +buxom

The tall, muscular man places his hand over the buxom, tressy-tressed woman's.

Buxom would see: The tall, muscular man places his hand over yours.

So, =/+ is "yours", and %/^ is "your", if someone was using it on you.

No kidding, I usually work around most of these.  Need to make me a post it for them, though.

Not that I'm against it being implemented in the game itself, but you can probably do this with a client trigger.

Do a regex replace  ~([A-Za-z]+)'s  with %\1

help emoting

It is ALL THERE.

In a nice orderly list.

You can even open it on the Help Files ON THE WEBSITE.

Simple.

I do wish the code would interpret it moreso than it already has.  We should use both <keyword>'s and %<keyword>.
