I've been playing quite a bit for almost two months now... and I have -never- seen a PC use the change ldesc command... why not? In my opinion, its an ignored RP tool. Also, when you have a changed ldesc, people assume that you're an NPC! I've used this quite a bit, and I've had some humorous things happen...
Plenty of people use change ldesc.
Maybe you're confusing them for NPCs.

Hmmm... well I've never seen it used before. And I often start conversations with NPCs just to be sure ;D
I use it all the time, personally love it.
I also see it used a lot.

Alright, alright! Well, maybe I'm just crazy, or not paying enough attention then. :P
Oh, and does it make an echo when you change ldesc?

Nope.
Ditto, tons of folks use it. I have it aliased I use it so much.
I always use it when I can, though the character limit can be a frustrating. Most times I use it is if I'm in a room for an extended period of time, waiting for someone to show up to a room, or just entered a room and want to give me position and how I'm standing.

I use change ldesc almost as often as I emote.

Yep, he does, and his grammer sucks in those too.
;D ;D ;D ;D
I know a guy who changes his ldesc in between each and every forage attempt. People definitely use it.
EDIT: But they could use it more. Like bards... whenever you're playing some tunes in a bar or tavern, use your ldesc to reflect that. PC guards... make it clear whose seat you're standing behind. If you're hiding in a room, use it to place yourself behind a chair or whatnot.

I was always nervous about using it while hiding. I don't know if it will make me visible or not when I do it.

Change ldesc beforehand.

That, sadly, doesn't work. Hiding, or just about any action, really, resets the ldesc.
I know from experience that changing ldesc doesn't make you visible.

Cool, though now I wonder, how useful it would be anyway, since I believe that if someone can see your hidden character, they will see them as *a strange shadow* not by whatever ldesc you have set. Err right?
If you have succeeded.
True.
