Excuse my language but, I've seen the name Amos all over this board. Who is it? Enlighten a poor newbie.
Find out IC.
Edit: Sorry ... seemed like the thing to say. ::)
I think Amos is akin to saying John Doe. Or Mr. Smith, or some other generic name.
Amos and Malik are the everyman, and they always, always, always have 'the tall, muscular man' as a description.
Apparently, long, long ago, there were like four or five 'Amos's in game.
I've met at least twenty 'Amos' characters in Zalanthas, and have used the name for one of my own once.
Also, in my time, I've seen at least 10 'tall, muscular men'.
So, Amos and 'the tall, muscular man' were condensed into the Armageddon character norm.
And that kids, is the story of Amos.
Who is Amos?
He is my father, and my mother, my brother, my friend. He is you, and me. He is all of us.
I am he and you are he and you are me and we are all together.

Amos is Soylent Green.
Amos is a dish best served cold.
Amos is a storybook ending.
Amos and Malik are the Zalanthan equivalents of Bob and Joe. For male PCs, they are the top two most popular names in the database, at last posting on the subject by the imms.
Wonder if there is a female equivalent of amos or malik.
Amish Overlord 8)
Talia and Malia.
Talia and Pearl, according to a post by an imm I read.
Pearl is immortalized and can only ever mean one person.

Talia seen a few times I think, but malia don't recall.

Malkovamos, malkovamos.
Heh.
Awhile back, there was a thread asking what the most common character name was. The name that was stated was "Amos", after some research by one of the staff.
Afterwards, the name grew in popularity to become by far the most common name in Zalanthas. So when the name "Amos" is used, it generally means your generic character.
According to a very quick, dirty, and unscientific survey I just did, the most popular PC female names are Talia and Sasha (7 PCs each). If you think one is more popular, post it and I'll check.
By comparison there were 27 Amoses and 17 Maliks, so male names seem to have more repitition than female.
Keep in mind, these are just PCs who have the name as their ACTUAL name, not an alias.

This is clear proof that females (or their pretenders) are more creative.
I've seen a few female characters named "Sadira" or some slight variation thereof.
I still think it gives Famous Amos cookies a whole new meaning.

Double post... sorta.

At this point, I feel as though I am a slacker for
not having an Amos or a Malik.
...If I ever play a templar, I swear I'm naming him Amos.
There's already an Amos-esque templar IG right now.

Ah, indeed, you are right, you are right.
At this point, though, I think the number of Amoses and Maliks might be inflated because people create these characters just to be part of the (very humorous) stereotype. Like I'm tempted to. I can't help but wonder how it started... like, why
Amos, of all names? That'd be a good Sath/Negean book for 2.Arm, wouldn't it? "The Rise of Amos."
Kira and Kali are also very popular female names, although often they are short for names like Dakira or Kalima.
There was a while when Ash seemed to be a trendy name (male or female), but I haven't seen that in a while.
I'd also be curious what the most popular short descriptions have been, besides "the tall, muscular man".
I saw a couple of "tall, scarred man" the other day.
I saw a legit "the tall, muscular man" in-game and laughed. A lot. Thing is, the way he acted, I could tell he was a more experienced player, so, uh, kudos, man. Someday I'll app a stereotype and probably laugh my ass off the whole time playing him...
There was a point when pretty much everyone was crimson-something'ed.
How many remember the time when pretty much every templar was sinewy or cruel-eyed and some even both?
That was bad, I swear we had to put up with about three years of that and at least 10 templars....cringes.
the day we see the templar amos - the tall muscular templar- will be the day arm1 has come to an end
There were 9 Kalis.
How many mansa's?
What's Talia's sdesc?
The last time I saw a tall, muscular man, it was someone completely ordinary.
The last time I saw an Amos he was saving an entire race that y'all don't even know about.
The last time I interacted with a Famous Amos he got disappeared for treason, I think. Or at least captured and made someone's private cookie-baker slave.

W...was it a race of Warrior City Elves?
There are lots of City elves, some of which are warriors. Though they may not make up the numbers the VNPC population makes.

Dude revealed himself to an entire city like several IC years ago, and the event was common knowledge all across the world. This is seriously considered an IC secret? Wasn't it like a major historical event that everybody and their kanks know about?

Considering I have no idea what you're talking about, I'm going to say, "Yes, this is IC."
Remember, even if they aren't secret, IC happenings not posted on the timeline should be found out about IC. Even if everyone IC already knows about it.
I totally have to make an Amos before Arm1 ends.
I've already had a Malik, but technically, his coded name was 'Grauz'. His full name was Malik Grauz, but he preferred to go by his last name. So that means I'll be able to make two Maliks. Hell yeah.
Also, another common Zalanthan name I've been pushing for a while is Lo. I played a character named Lo, and mentioned a couple of Los as VNPCs. Feel free to use Lo, everybody!
Rather than being uncreative, I think having 'common' names helps create a more interesting game. It's nice a little real-life phenomeon that other games don't usually have.

For that matter, there have been Malik-esque templars too. I'd even like to think that the popularity of Malik and derivatives was due in part to the characters in question.

For one, that was quite a lot less than an full year ago. Second, Tisiphone's right. Etch that one into your brain. It'll come in handy later. Third, even what you've revealed there is probably too much (in any instance).

Sorry, you have already used that name on a previous character.
If you feel it has been long enough since this character died, submit a

Ahhhh, that's unfortunate.
Yeah, it is. :(
I think the names Amos and Malik should be exempt from the "You can't use this name twice" rule.
(Uh, after actually reading this thread all the way through, nevermind, I guess.)
See my sig. There's a guy in Allanak with that desc and his name isn't Amos. It's *cheating* I tell ya!

The staff should fix it so everyone's first character in A2 will be named Amos.
Amos and Malik. They're like Biggs and Wedge man.
Also, I heard the Dragon's name was actually Cid.
