Retarded question I know, but I constantly see tall figures and even extremely tall figures, and yet, when I pick the max height for my elf, I'm just a figure in a dark, hooded cloak :(.

Serious answers only, please, and no talk of overcompensation in any regard...

Height of hooded figures is relative to your own height. Hence you are always the figure, people shorter are short figures, taller people are tall figures.
