Please answer with your typical/average usage over all your characters who have had apartments.
I find it depends on my characters.
If I'm a magicker, I'm going to cast a lot in my apartments to practice my spells and mudsex.
If I'm a merchant, I'm going to use it to conduct business and mudsex.
If I'm a warrior, I'm going to use it to spar in during my off days and mudsex.
It depends on what type of friends my characters have. If my character doesn't want many friends - I'll probably spend 70% of my time in the apartment.
Again, same as Mansa.
I would like to see apartment like warehouse facilities. I've played a fair number of merchant types that needed a rentable warehouse. I hated using an apartment for that, but thats all thats available.
And my magicker types...I dont like casting in apartments. Imagine someone walking uy and seeing the flashes of light in the windows, or the other apartments feeling their floor shake, etc.
So I voted: Thats where I store crap.
My apartments tend only to be used for crafting (bleh), sparring (bad), spam-casting (bad!), scheming in private (good) and inviting people over for a cup of backstab (good.) I don't mudsex.
None of the given options apply exactly.
I have used my apartment a lot with a wealthy PC who could afford one with multiple rooms, a kitchen, and space to craft - and above all, a very good lock. Felt like it could actually be used for something without being cleaned out twice a RL week. I'd roleplay in there both solo and with guests, pretty much every day.
My poorer PCs usually don't bother with apartments at all because they get broken into constantly, which becomes somewhat irritating.

...practice my spells and mudsex.
You need to practice Mudsex?

My apartment usage has been primarily for plotting/mudsexing. My PCs (well, the few so far) have tended not to have many personal possessions that they wouldn't want to keep on them almost all of the time.
I answered #2 but I -also- like to keep an apartment for storage. So it is both #1 and #2.

QFT.
I love Ghost.
He makes me giggle. ;D
Comes and goes in spurts for me... I RP there a lot when there, but if I'm not there... I'm out with others RPing, but we always come back to it and RP there for a bit. But Storage is key really.
An apartment usually tends to be a big deal for my characters. It's not simply a place for privacy, it's where his tools are kept. It's where he goes to prepare for whatever it is he's setting out to do. So yeah, a lot of it is storage and crafting, but that's usually crafting toward a rather specific and immediate end. So I chose to say I roleplay quite a bit in the apartment whenever my character has one.
