Title: Room tag?
Post by: Paris on August 25, 2006, 09:32:35 PM
Something I would like to see, perhaps some to sort of option to brief, is the ability to add
an extra line in the room that gives you the wind. It is just spammy to type weather every
room, and you can easily walk into a sandstorm and not know it until you move one more
room and then your screwed unless you're a ranger. With the tag you would know you are
basically walking into it and move that one room out.

Thoughts?

p.s. Please don't derail this into a ranger, or subguilds with navigation discussion.

Would be a nice addition to prompt.

I thought about that, but it would be a hassle to reset your prompt every time you went
inside. A brief command would make it quicker (yes I know aliases this is cutting out the
middleman). I think it would look smoother in your logs with it as an extra line in the room
desc.  Perhaps with our leetness imms we can do both.

I think it would work fine in prompt. Just having a weather option, if you were indoors, it could simply say 'indoors'.

Why would you have to reset your prompt for going inside?  It could just say, "Inside" instead of what the weather is.

I think it would be pretty slick to be able to put weather in your prompt.

Weather in prompt.... yes, I heartily approve.

Yes, especially becuase the intensity of the wind changes without any echos.

This is a slick idea, I love it. I've always wanted to use wind more in my emotes, as its a tactile, auditory and visual stimuli all at once.

My prompt is long enough as it is. I'd just stick with the weather command anyway.

I'm pretty sure this is wrong.  I'm not 100%, but I think it is.  It may change from room to room...but when it changes within a room while you're in it, I think you get a message.

You get an echo when the wind changes direction, but not when it progresses from a light breeze to a full-on sandstorm.  Having had a character that spent  a lot of downtime out in the weather, I know this to be true.

I like this idea, overall, though I think I'd personally prefer a brief option to rooms, instead of a prompt - mainly because not everyone uses prompts at all, so they'd have to start using one to make use of this feature.  Whereas everyone gets a chance to see room descriptions.

I am, of course, thinking about ME!  I never use prompts, personally, and I know it'd drive me bonkers if I had to start using one when I'm used to that nice, clean:   >

Halaster doesn't use a prompt because he assumes your not really going to
get past this.

It would have to be in some sort of shorthand notation.
