Quote from: "Halaster"Thieves take note. There are some places in Allanak that you cannot safely use the hide skill. These sorts of places should be obvious from the description of the room.

Does this mean hide won't work or you'll get crim-flagged for trying?

No, this means that there will be places where it's simply impossible to hide.

I can think of a few places where being caught lurking in the shadow behind a statue would be punishable by death.

Anyway, thanks for clarifying that, Morgenes.

Now, I'm very curious as to which rooms these will be, because I believe I can justify anything in the world.

And by justify I mean think up an excuse for it.
And by think up I mean come up with a half-ass idea for me to twink out with.

I think it would be cool if those places trigger something like "This just isn't going to work." instead of, "You attempt to hide yourself."

But maybe more gracefully phrased?

I  struggled with how to word that to be clear, heh.  Guess I didn't do a good job.  What Morg said.  Some places, if you read the room description, really would be impossible to hide in.  These are the places I'm talking about.

Although I'm not playing a shady type, I can think of one added thing
that might be nice for thieves due to this. Basically, a way to make it so
you can toggle whether or not you will move into a place that is
impossible to hide.

100 100 100> e
You can't figure out a way to conceal yourself if you head in that direction.

Or just rehash the code like the "e now" stuff that is used to keep newbies
from walking off the shield wall.

Edited to Add:

On the downside, this would give sneaky types an ability to see if they are
hidden or not if they receive that message.  Maybe instead just something
like where you can do 'weather [dir]' to determine.

The thing is, I always thought 'hide' was more than just 'hide in the shadows'.  I thought it could be following along with the crowd, looking like a vnpc.

I assume these new areas are brightly lit hallways that are cramped spaces.

Now, the question that I have that won't be answered because it's asking too much of the code is:

If I'm shadowing someone, and they walk into this area, to I become unhidden?
I assume that I would become unhidden

If I'm shadowing someone, and they walk into this area, do I also fail my sneak check?
I assume that I would still be sneaking successfully

Therefore, if I'm shadowing someone, and they walk into this area, I may become unhidden, but I also may successfully sneak, therefore if the person hasn't typed 'look room' then I may get away with being visible for that one moment, as the person would keep on spamwalking out of that area, and then I can type 'hide' again to go hidden again.

Hmm.  I guess it ain't so bad.  It just means I can't _START_ stalking my prey in certain rooms.  I can always _START_ elsewhere.

Find out IC. This won't be answered, because we won't go into that much detail about the code.
