Title: Arrival messages
Post by: Hymwen on July 08, 2006, 11:07:56 PM
How come you don't see the speed of people arriving? Shouldn't you be able to see if they were running, walking or sneaking?

What say you?

I say yay. Not sure why it was the other way in the first place.

You mean "walks(runs/sneaks) in from the north, extra stuff" as opposed to "has arrived from the north, extra stuff"?

Lord Templar Hard Nose likes it.

Do eet!

What would the message be?  "Hexxaex walks/stealthily walks/runs in from the north" like Eternal said is good.  The current messages say "Hexxaex has arrived from the north".  Will that be kept in some way?

I like the idea of entry messages telling what speed a person is moving.  If someone is running, you're going to notice.

Thumbs up. I'd also like to see my movement emotes echoed.

I'm all for it.

The bobble-headed 'rinthi runs in from the north.
The bobble-headed 'rinthi moves steathily in from the north.
The bobble-headed 'rinthi walks in from the north.
...etc, etc...

"Has arrived" is kind of one of those unique defining things. I would want to keep "Has arrived" for walking.

A mekillot walks in from the north.

A mekillot has arrived from the north.

i like this idea. maybe apply it only to humanoids so that weird mekillot walking wouldn't occur?

What would be better is to apply it to any occassion when the subject wasn't walking.

So you'd have ...
The big man has arrived from the north.
The big man has arrived from the north, running.
The big man has arrived from the north, sneaking.

Quote from: "The7DeadlyVenomz"So you'd have ...
The big man has arrived from the north.
The big man has arrived from the north, running.
The big man has arrived from the north, sneaking.

That would clash pretty terribly with the emote system.

Darting through the doorway, the big man has arrived from the north, running.

As opposed to...

Darting through the doorway, the big man runs in from the north.

Not really.

There is no option for adding post emotes to movement, only pre-emotes.

Actually, I think when you leave a room, the message is "Bob has arrived from the north, clutching his head" or "Clutching his head, Bob walks south".  I'm pretty sure it switches to pre or post depending on what your point of view is.

Correct, but the movement speed can always switch accordingly, just as the emotes do currently.

Clutching his rag-doll, the little boy leaves west, running.

Running, the little boy has arrived from the west, clutching his rag-doll.

Looks good to me. *shrug*

Do arrival echoes echo to the player of the character?

If not, I really wish we could toggle that on and off because I would like to test mine.  :-(
