Title: After mount-climbing...
Post by: Arbonne on April 24, 2006, 09:18:09 PM
Hmm, a question regarding the code, and also an idea.

Now that each mount has that climb ability, will that mean longer-lived/used mounts will be able to climb better?

And as for the idea, if that's the case, could there be something added like mount preference or some similar codes that are affected with the duration you stay with a single mount?

No. Mounts don't age, so they can't gain experience. Making mounts able to age and get tattooes would be needed before you could have them learn.

On the upside, your mount will never die in the stables.

You said "each mount"...  not all mounts are able to climb.  Perhaps I am misreading, but the clarification seems worthwhile.

I'm curious as to see this in action and .. really wouldn't like to find out if they can fail the climb.

I can't wait until I see somebody do this :

> teach kank climb
You instruct a yellow kank in the skill 'climb'.

>mount kank
You jump up onto a yellow kank's back.

>say (patting ~kank gently) Up up and away!
You say, in southern-accented sirihish:
 "Up up and away!"

>up (leaping into the air atop ~kank)
Your kank carefully climbs up.

While the other players go:

>think What in krath's name..
You think:
 "What in krath's name..."

>look up (laughing)

Laughing, you look up to see:
Up high in the air [U D N E S W]
A kank is here, carrying the flying climber on his back.

I don't think climb takes you into rooms flagged fly. You'd need a mount that can accept the 'fly' and 'land' commands.

The above was a joke, but the idea is amazing to be able to fly and climb with your mounts now.

Once I was drunk, I was playing with my merchant. Suddenly a storm has started and I was left in a room with a skeet.
After RPing different things for long, I slowly instructed the skeet what is the best way to chop off a tree for about an IC hour, gave him an example then instructed him the lumberjacking.
I don't think an imm was mad at me because I let a skeet have more skill in lumberjacking if anyone saw at all, but teaching a bug climbing? I'm sure they would get fried for that.

Hahahaha. Are you serious? Hahahahaha. That's, like, great! I don't think I'd have thought about this.

with Cenghiz, I am 100% confident that he -is- serious about that. It's just par for the course. Heh.

I could have SWORN I've seen a log detailing very very similar events somewhere...

Err.. was not a joke.. My characters sometimes act weird, I should confess. That merchant couldn't keep his big mouth shut for even miliseconds and he was stuck in a room in storm for an IC day. Of course he spoke to the only creature he saw around (the skeet) and spoke about his best ability. The skeet listened carefully and seemed interested so I did teach.
Also all my magickers' magickal underling NPCs give/don't give consent when needed and all my rangers' pets bite an organ of him when the character forgets to feed them.
Even though overdoing the comic-strip side of the character may defeat the purpose, doing something realistic but still funny OOC once in a while to make other players giggle is a good thing(tm).

Actually, his characters sometimes act normal.
