Title: Code changes
Post by: Marauder Moe on April 12, 2006, 10:10:30 AM
You Immortals rock!  Didn't see this one coming (hemote and semote).  Seems like there've been more code changes in the last 2-3 weeks than in the previous year! Any chance tdescs are next?

Just so I'm clear, though...

emote has no change at all regarding visibility?
hemote == subtle, but not neccesarily hidden/invisible, emote?
semote == silent and hidden/invisible emote?

You've got it.  If someone is actively watching you, or just an observant person, they'll notice hemotes.  Silent emotes echo only to those who can see you.  So you can do them while you're not hidden/invisible, but anyone who can see you will see the emote.

Wow. Dude. This is so huge. Thank you very much.

To help clarify further, you can think of them as a degrees:

emote = everyone sees all the time.
semote = anyone who can see you sees the emote
hemote = only those actively watching you or those very observant will see it.

Let me just see if I've got this straight...We can now play on Saturday afternoons AND we've gotten the hidden emotes.....I think I might cry. That is almost to much goodness in such a short amount of time!

Yay to the hard working Imms!

Anyone want to start a gambling pool to bet on who, between Xygax and Morgenes, will come out with the next code implementation, and also what that code will be?

Wow wowo. Color me impressed. I never thought these would see the light of day.

I can't wait until I have the time to come back to this game, it'll be a whole new world for me, experiencing all these new coded goodies all at once. I'll probably be overwhelmed, AND LIKE IT.

bravi, immortals, bravi! Encore!

I don't think I understand the new look emotes.

Does it mean I can't

look green with her hands clasped in her lap.

?

I'll never keep track of it all.

Guess I'll just be using semote all the time to be safe.

This is awesome.

The only thing left to add to emote is yours/his/hers functionality. And then it would be perfect.

It all started on April first! I can see the Imms saying "Let's do a whole bunch of code changes and release them on April first and fool them." But it looks like some of the imms haven't stopped doing the code changes :D

What do you mean? There's % and #?

Yeah, but that'll only show "your" and "her" etc., and you can't correctly emote something where the target sees "yours" and others see "his/hers".

% is your/his/her
# is you/he/she

What I'd like is something like & for yours/his/hers.

You could do something like:
emote gets down on one knee in front of ~juliet, his gaze slowly lifting to meet &juliet.

Juliet sees:
Romeo gets down on one knee in front of you, his gaze slowly lifting to meet yours.

Mercutio sees:
Romeo gets down on one knee in front of Juliet, his gaze slowly lifting to meet hers.

That make sense?

Incidentally, the new "help emoting" file indicates that we can do "his/hers" stuff when we can't.

Quote from: "Help Emoting"Likewise, precede a keyword with a !, ^, or # to substitute the gendered objective (him/her), possessive (his/hers) pronouns, and the nomitive pronoun (he/she) respectively. In tabular form:

I think it might just be a typo in the helpfile. (his/hers) should be (his/her), but still calls attention to the fact that we can't get (his/hers) at all currently.

Morgenes, baby, can you help us out? :)

And if you want it to work exactly as before, you'll want to use [] to specify a post emote, so your example would be:

> look green [with her hands clasped in her lap]

It is a typo in the helpfile...I've dutifully removed it.

I do hear the call for the functionality, I'll look at it.

I wouldn't suggest this course, if you're not sure, use emote.  Semote should only be for purely silent actions.

I just have to say, being a person playing a character that is
hidden or invisible from time to time, I gobbled up using semote
very quick. I've made fairly good use of it already.

Great changes.

I just saw people using hemotes...it was great.  I can't wait to see a form of thieves' cant come about all through hemotes.
