Title: "Pre"motes with look.
Post by: Cale_Knight on April 09, 2006, 02:13:36 AM
I'd like to be able to tag emote to the front of looks.

look man idly
The womanly woman looks at the manly man idly.

look (idly) man
Idly, the womanly woman looks at the manly man.

look (idly) man as she scratches her cheek.

I like it, would add some flavor to look emotes.

I'd also like look emotes to be formatted similiar to all other emotes and always require parenthesis.  Why?  Because exceptions are dumb and I'd like to know I'm always doing it right when I input [action] (emote flavoring on top).

If we're making a wish list, I want the look emote to echo back to me on top of all this other fine stuff being suggested.

Make your own damn thread. This is a no Lauras allowed thread.

And you.

But I love you both.  So it's ok.

Yea, putting the emote after a look EVERY TIME makes it look really awkward.

And I don't mind it not echoing, that's what my client echoes for.

I'm in favor of both suggestions.  Why NOT add this functionality to look like everything else?  Also, having the look-echo echo back to the player's display by default would help people learn what works and doesn't in a look emote, very helpful for newbies.  I think both of these are fantastic suggestions for look, so no worries about another thread, CK.

On a slight derail, another helpful thing for newbies would be to have the move echo back to the player as well.  Coming soon, a thread on this topic, brought to you by SpawnCo (tm).

Yep, I'm down for this to echo back to the player as well. It's always nice to see how your emotes come out. Makes it easier to do better ones in the future.

Thanks for the feedback, good idea, I'll put this on my (growing) TO-DO list.

The look command does more than just handle looking at someone or something.   Currently only the 'look at' portion handles emotives, when I add the ability to use command emotes, it'll likely need to happen for all look actions.  Should I ignore these for the other looks, or if you specify them, do you want me to create echoes for those?

Some examples:

> look (blocking the sun with his hand) north
Blocking the sun with his hand, Morgenes looks north.

> look in cage [and shakes his head]
Morgenes looks in the cage, and shakes his head.

> look room (peering around)
Peering around, Morgenes looks at the room????

I guess most of them are fairly easy to add an echo to, just the look room one that would be odd.

Note, I'm not suggesting adding an echo if you don't specify a pre/post emote.  If you don't specify an emote, there won't be an echo as it always was before.

Please do add that capability, Morgenes.  Having an optional way to emote while looking into a container would be simply awesome.
It would be best if it could also echo to the player when used with an emote.

Thanks. :)

That would be fantastic.  Many times, yea, verily, have I looked east, and then felt compelled to emote glancing east.  More things to emote with means more fun, but I hope that we would recieve an echo userside as well.

I like this.

However, please don't make it echo every time you 'look' in a room or container!

Only when the add-ons are included.

I already spam myself to death when I look around.
I would hate for them to spam-kill other people following me.

Good idea morgenes. I think I like you.
