Title: Assess -u
Post by: Many Faces on April 03, 2006, 03:18:10 PM
Simple enough to explain:

assess -u (target) will provide additional information on 'uses' of the target or NPC.  Examples:

assess -u tube
A slender tube of uberspice can be used with the smoke command.

assess -u templar
A white robed templar can be used with the fill command.

assess -u mansa
A fluffy-headed, canadian mansa can be used with the mudsex command.

Etc...

The easiest way to fill in each particular instance would most likely be to ask the playerbase to simply spend a couple weeks using the 'idea' command to log instances of items/NPCs that would need messages added to them, along with the example message.  This way, those special items/NPCs with uses that should be sekrit can stay sekrit.

(this could slowly also be used to remove the mentionings of OOC signs and such things that are commonly located at tailors etc)

assess -u rock
This rock can be used with a magick spell

assess -u goblet
This goblet can be used to summon demons

assess -u salt
This salt can be used in crafting and making good soup.

I don't support the -u function.  Assess already tells you a lot of information about an item.  You can usually just check help files to understand what an item is.

Most of the game is discovering the secrets of the game.  If all the secrets were available with the touch of a button, we'd lose a lot of players due to bordem.

Heck, I didn't even know about the whistle command.  I love that command.  Almost as good as the jump command.

I think that would be a nice way of helping people with syntax issues. Somtimes, no matter how obvious or documented it seems, it manages to escape someone (me, included) during an important time. That said, I can understand why people wouldn't want everyone to be able to know exactly what everything does. So I'd have to so I'm sorta on the fence.

the "guess the command and syntax" game is the worst fucking idea in an RPI.

Discovery my ass.

Helping someone with syntax is different than revealing the nature of an item.

Why yes, JCarter, I'll be happy to search for it for you.
