Title: 2 Torso Slots
Post by: DesertT on March 16, 2006, 04:10:00 PM
Could we get two torso slots please?

As is, a player cannot wear both a shirt and a vest.  I just find it kinda odd that my character would wear a silken vest without a shirt underneath.  I think it adds a bit of class to have a shirt underneath your vest.  Don't you?  :D

This could also allow for the wearing of something like a smuggler's pocket vest below his billowing sandcloth shirt.  Just another idea of how useful something like this could be.

The problem with extra wear locations is almost invariably that it affects game balance.  What happens if someone wears silt horror plate and a studded leather vest underneath that?
Or it could have separate armor which, as a result, would alter game balance by making hits to the Body damage location give considerably less damage, which might give the combat code some trouble.

I see no problem with just emoting the undergarment anyway.

Or...just make an undergarment wear spot that doesn't allow for armor bonuses.

Bras for the masses!

I wouldn't mind seeing this to allow for undershits, bras, etc.  But on the other hand it wouldn't really add anything to the game in situations that don't involve mudsex.

Yeah, I was a little bummed that my "beaded silk dancer's bra" took up my torso slot. Kinda dumb that I can't wear a shirt over it. Some items should just be flagged as one layer, such as thin blouses and undergarments, and some should be flagges as two, like a jacket or a breastplate or something like that.

Also, give the option of wearing cloaks open so you can see the torso-worn item while wearing a cloak!

Not everything is about mudsex. Some people like to just play their character in a realistic manner. If my character has a reason to wear a certain item, it doesn't involve mudsex unless I want to act it out that way. Characters want to feel comfortable, clean, attractive etc. and it doesn't have to mean that they do it purely because of sexual reasons. Do you think we wear bras for no other reason than pleasing your eyes?  :D

I believe certain parts of the body need to be specified as "hit locations" to take advantage of armor worn on that part of the body, and so this secondary location could be factored out of the equation.  For example, I've never seen this:

The half-giant soldier brutally bludgeons your finger.
The half-giant solider bludgeons you very hard on your ear.

I'd like the ability to have an undershirt beneath armor, and think that it makes a lot of sense.  Many of us would not wear heavy plated armor of any kind without a layer of padding beneath, and I'm sure that players would enjoy the opportunity of taking off their armor without completely disrobing.  Perhaps you could specify this location as upper body or chest, versus the "body" location now.

<worn on upper body>          a loose, while silk shirt
<worn on body>                   an azure, alabaster buttoned vest

or

<worn on upper body>          a simple, tan cloth padded tunic
<worn on body>                   an obsidian breastplate

I think it would be cool to be able to strip off armor and not be left completely naked underneath.

Guys, as a side note, please don't include actual sdescs of clothes you own/wear in your posts... it makes it pretty easy to guess who you play.

YES PLEASE.

No, I just think that whether or not you're wearing a coded bra or a virtual bra won't affect anyone or anything 99% of the time.

keep the bra object in your inventory and wear the silk shirt in your coded torso slot. then, when you emote, all you need to type is "~bra".
you can pretend the bra is underneath your shirt, even though codedly it's in your inventory.

Then your bra gets stolen. How do you explain that?

How the hell can you see a woman's dress or blouse or a guy's awesome jacket/shirt/'breastplate of doom' if the damn cloak is on?  With clans in which you must wear your cloak at all times, obviously signifying your affiliation, this can be a real pain in the butt.  Please, -PLEASE- institute the "latch/unlatch" command.

Back to the thread, undergarments would be nice.  The slots would only allow clothing flagged for said slots, just like sleeves, wristsguards, etc.

What you've never stolen a bra?  I've gotten picked up for Petty Theft Brazier, what like, five, six times now?

I noticed this same problem with strappy things, though.  Like a pouch you can strap on.  So, if I really want to wear this pouch around my thigh, I don't get any pants.  Is that the idea?  At first I thought it was for girls with skirts, but then I realized that skirts go around the legs too, right?  So, is this like...pouched underwear?  I really don't think it's worth another store spot to be hanging out there in the breeze when a sandstorm comes.  Ouch.

I agree with this, absolutely. I would also suggest two thigh locations for those who would strap on an extra knife or other such. It would mirror forearms.

It's never made sense to me, that "forearm" wear location.  I mean...a small, black leather sheath that can be worn on your forearms?  It has always made me feel a little weird, as though my arms were bound together with the sheath or what have you.  Arms kind of make sense because its almost always armbands or sleeves.  Same with hands, only those are gloves, if you follow me.

And while I'm complaining, it irritates me that cloaks don't cover shoulder tattoos.  And it also irritates me that I can't specify which shoulder I want to wear something on.  I have to do fancy item/keyword juggling if I want to wear something on a specific shoulder.  Same with ankles.  And I hate that tattoos show up on ankles unless you're wearing something on your ankle.  Everyone's wearing pants or long skirts anyway, even if your shoes are low.

Ok I'm sorry, I'm done.  I love you, coders?

The whiny, whiny girl stealthily moves north.

p.s. it's brassiere.

Yeah, people don't wear braziers...that would be QUITE uncomfortable, what with the burning and the pain.

Yeah, forearms should be split in two or eliminated. It is much more likely for someone to strap something to their thigh than their forearm, anyway.

As far as I know there are very few things you can wear on forearm wear location.  And they are all like things that you can strap around somewhere.  For example, that black sheath you say, can be attached to your arm with its straps over your sleeves or armguards.

I think cloaks should cover shoulders, yes.  And you are forgetting rings, you can't specify which finger with rings either.

Heh.

Right, on topic...

Forearms?  It'd be nice to break them up, yeah.  Eliminate?  Please no.  There's some cool stuff that is good flavor that can be worn there.

Ankkles?  Picking and choosing would be nice.  It'd open things up for people to create obsessive compulsives that wear everything on one side fo the body and actually be able to pick the side.

Shoulders?  Well...Yes, wearing a cloak should cover your shoulder's tattoos but not cover things worn on your shoulders, much like they do for the 'back' wear location.

Rings?  Pick the finger?  Damn...there's so many ring locations.  Unique keywords for each?  That doesn't sound like fun to figure out.

Finger keywords?

L_THUMB
L_INDEX
L_MIDDLE
L_RING
L_PINKIE

Rinse and repeat for the right hand.

I second the above, and as was suggested, split the forearms into two wear locations.  That would so rock.

And I suggest that you can't see the rings on fingers, unless you "look target's hand."

I would totally dig splitting the "forearms" location into "right forearm" and "left forearm". It would be sweet to have "right thigh" and "left thigh" locations added.
