Title: Blood
Post by: Antigone on February 25, 2006, 11:21:26 AM
I don't know if this is already implemented, but it would be cool to be able to withdraw blood from corpses to drink. I heard somewhere that Native Americans used to draw blood from their horses so that they wouldn't die of thirst, and seeing as water is so precious on Zalanthas, it would make sense blood (from animals or whatever) would be an acceptable substitution for water.

That is generally not regarded as a good way to get hydration.  There are some that would not find it such an issue, but those tribes already have stuff for them, don't worry.

As an aside, there is way to get blood from some creatures in-game, which you can then drink. I suggest finding out IC if it's helpful or not, hehe.

You can't normally drink blood from an animal to fix thirst.  Blood is generally very salty and will just make your thirst worse.  That said, as others have pointed there are animals in game that their blood might be useful for drinking under the right circumstances.  For those animals using the skin skill will get what you need.

this is also something that would be rather rare. Probably best left to wishing up.

And for the record, I've heard rumors ICly of this happening to your everyday respectable Bynners.

I'd like to be able to get some blood from the body that I can use to draw with.

As far as I know, drinking pure blood makes you sick. You get forced to throw up so soon. In my past training tai-boxing, I was once kicked badly on the nose. My nose kept bleeding for a good hour, possibly some of the blood leaked to my mouth and I drank it. Maybe only a gulp or so.. Result: I threw up a few times, my stomach felt sick for long.
But, for example, Mongols shared Turks's national drink, "Kımız", but prepared in a particular way. They brewed horse blood (taken from a shallow cut from a thigh) with horse milk and made a different, Mongol-way Kımız, which was a good drink but also satiating.
Maybe special tribes (gith? halfling?) may have a command - draw blood and use the blood in brewings. Other than that, I had characters - especially magickers drawing blood from dead folks. A wish up is fine, since you do not do that so often.
