Title: Silly stupid timezone question.
Post by: Hymwen on February 18, 2006, 02:39:01 PM
Hi. I never really got the whole timezone deal and I have no idea how they really work. All I know is that I live in GMT -1 (I think   ) - So if the game comes back up from maintenance at 7:00 PM CDT, what time will that be in GMT -1?

We are currently on CST actually, not CDT...CST is GMT -6...or 5 hours behind you.  This means 7pm CST is 1am GMT...or 12 midnight your time..

Thanks. But when I try to log on Armageddon, it says:

We're down for regular Saturday work and building on the game and system, and should have the game back up at -approximately- 7:00 PM CDT.

I'm easily confused.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Standard_Time_Zone

QuoteCentral Daylight Time

Daylight Saving Time is in effect in much of the time zone between early April and late October. The modified time is called Central Daylight Time (CDT) and is UTC-5. Saskatchewan, Central America and Galápagos do not observe the change, remaining on Standard Time year round. One reason that Saskatchewan does not take part in the time change as most of the province should be placed in the Mountain Time Zone. To avoid this they have moved onto 'Permanent' daylight savings by being part of the Central Time Zone. The only exception is the region immediately surrounding the Saskatchewan side of the biprovincial city of Lloydminster, which has chosen to use Mountain Time with DST, synchronizing its clocks with those of Alberta.

I'd suggest some research.
