Heyo,
Realistically what do you all do when you wake up? Look around, take things in, check the clock whatever. So my idea is this.
Right now when you sleep it does this.
You sleep on a grey, bone-framed bed.
And when you wake up it does this.
wake
You wake, and sit up.
Now what is the next command that almost EVERYONE types in?
LOOK!
So why don't they just have the code for 'wake', automatically look around, because anytime you wake up you're going to take a snapshot of your location, to see what's going on, or just out of habit. I was thinking about this when I took a nap and woke up, I -always- look at something and check my surroundings.
Know this wouldn't be hard to implement, let me know.
Comments, questions or since I wrote this post, flames?

It doesn't really add anything. You can just type l anyway. Hell, I always press l automatically at least five times a minute. It doesn't matter if look is added on to the wake command, and it doesn't make sense in the command scheme. If the player wants to have their character look, they can press l.

Bah, I'm talking about for the LAZY players..

Just alias "wake" to "wake;look."
instead of showing me the location that i most likely just saw before my character went to sleep, perhaps waking up could give you a quick snapshot of who's in the room.
but then, I think this might vary from situation to situation too much to force it on all players. There are often times where I don't want my character to wake and sit up, I just want him to become concious, but stay lying down.
Ah well.
As it's been stated before... type "l"
This is really not needed..Tek's balls, I will come to your house if you pay my airfair, and type in l for you, for a small price.
Seems a waste of code to make it do that. I look everywhere several dozen times anyway, it's just one more time.
I like it. Speculating on code is futile, but I don't think it would be a "waste of code."
Ok, when you wake yourself up it is easy enough to type "l" immediately. But sometimes you wake up unexpectedly because someone else wakes you up or you recover from an unconcious state, and since you weren't expecting to be doing anything (you might even be looking away from the monitor) it can take a while to type look -- these are the situations where I would really like looking to be automatic upon waking.

I'd rather see you just type look or l. I just don't think it's a good idea to add one command to another within the code like that.
You could also code your cilent to make your character look around, each time you use the wake command to wake your character.
I think it's fine the way it is, personally. If I'm playing a blind or
disoriented pc, I don't want to be forced to look at my own surroundings
when I may not have all of this information.
This takes lazy to a whole new level.
I vote for making an alias to do this for you.
I agree it could come in handy... but come on guys... 'l' is unbelievably easy to type. So far, the only decent argument for it is Angela Christine's. That's really the only circumstance when it'd be needed. I say you just take the leap, and make an alias.
Krath, as if we need anything else to make us a lazier society than we already are...
If you don't know how to make a multi command alias in your client, I may be able to help. I know a few clients, and can guestimate the rest.

Oh. I didn't think about that!
I'd have to say yes due to AC's example. That makes sense. Can I live without it? Probably. But it wouldn't hurt for this to be implemented mainly for the reason that AC posted.
Just type:
> alias w wake;look
That'll fix it.
But then going "west" is harder. I go west more often than I wake up.
Why y'all gotta steal my thunder. :P I was waiting for the inevitable "Hey, I can't go west no more!" response on the thread.
Duh, just alias e west
I rarely wake up and type look automatically.
Usually I emote 2-3 before typing in look, or I just get up and leave, not caring who is in the room.
