Title: Mount armor

This would be cool...Especially for Sun backs and such.

Uh. War beetles have armor?
Kanks have armor?
Inix have armor?

Sunbacks are way too damn weak for armor and a person.

No thanks.

Ironically, on Zalanthas, most mounts are made out of armor. Or is it armor that's made out of mounts? Kank shell, inix hide and shell, beetle shell - all of those are used in armor crafting.

Mounts are Born with armor already on them. Do they need more?

What might be cool is mounts with wear locations for house banners and saddles.

This way if you looked at the kank, you could see a few wear locations covered on it

On back A Banner of House Tenneshi
On Body A supple Black and Tan saddle.

A saddle might even give a better ride skill.. ooOhh..

I think the term we're looking for is "barding".  While Zalanthan mounts
are naturally armored, keep in mind that most insectoid creatures lack
bones--once you get past the armor, it's all soft and vulnerable putty
inside.  Of course, kanks and war beetles might not work like that.

An idea for barding could be to have spikes on light, plated pieces of
armor for the purposes of charging an opponent or making an attacker
regret attacking your mount hand-to-hand.

It would be sweet to have spikes that boosted charge.

I am only in favor of this if supple is used in the description each and every time.

It is hot in Ztown, hot hot hot, in most cases you would not want your mount running out of steam in the middle of the tablelands, or having to consume twice as much water. However, when you know that battle is imminent, and travel is not your main concern, then perhaps "spikes" would be appropriate.

Same with any armor really. I mean, hunters wouldn't wear full silt horror plate. But the AOD might if they knew they were on short patrol or entering a battle.
