Progressive lighting.
At the hours of dawn and dusk, or Before dawn and dusk.
When you "look" in a direction, you vision will be limited to 2 screens away.
So all day long you will be able to see things 3 screens away, and at night you can see one screen away. However, in the hours of Before Dawn (for example) and Dusk, you will see only two screens.
When in a sandstorm that already limits the sight to 2 screens, it will drop it one screen further.
Thoughts? Ideas? How hard would it be to code?
Well, the problem is that darker doesn't necessarily mean less visibility. It depends on weather conditions. At dusk and before dawn, there's no glaring sun in your face, after all.
The light and visibility systems work somewhat at odds right now. A revamp that gave them a bit more dynamic range in how they interact is warranted, no question.
Also a lot of code has been cut and pasted which controls how far people can see in what conditions, etc. It needs to be refactored so that visibility/lightning changes can be made more easily.
It's sort of an "overhaul" style project, but definitely necessary.
