Title: Problem with the sit tag-on emote
Post by: bloodfromstone on August 19, 2005, 01:23:25 AM
Recently, I've been getting a message like this:
<prompt> sit bar (pulling out a stool)

You don't see any '(pulling' here to sit at.

Huh? I don't have problems standing up and doing the tag-ons. Just when I want to sit at a table. Anyone have some insight? I only recently started having this problem. While it's not detrimental to my playing, it's kind of annoying. Did I miss a code update or something?

Thanks in advance.

This is a perfect candidate for the "bug" command in-game.

Thanks,

This has been killing me as well, but I've gotten around it by:

sit (hitching up his pants as he settles onto a stool) bar

That works out the same as 'sit bar (blah blah)'

Ahh, I had assumed it might have been a problem with my client or something. Thanks.

There are two ways to sit at a table.

The first and most common way is this:

sit at bar
OR
sit with bar-sitter

There is a second way, which is mostly just useful when there are different kinds of chairs at a table.

look table
This is a table.
There is a pink stool pulled next to it.
There is a velvet cushion pulled next to it.
There is a gaping, yellow iron maiden pulled next to it

sit cushion table

The code is thinking, from your example, that you're trying to sit on a chair called bar at a table called '(pulling'.

Yes, but in theory, the parser should recognize the '(' character and relegate the subsequent text to the role of an emote.

Why?  "sit bar" isn't acceptable input, or shouldn't be as far as I'm aware.
With this said, however, it does appear that the post-emote for sitting is broken when using furniture.
It could be related.

WP is correct.   It threw me at first too, but it works perfectly fine if you put the emote tag part in the middle.

I had thought it was a change in syntax, not a bug.

It seems to be backwards. As of lately, I noticed it too.

Also works for me if I do it likes this: sit bar(arranging his cloak about him) - just leave out the blank space between bar and the ().

Uhh.. Really? Why not? This is what I've been typing since I started playing.

>sit bar

I know the whole "sit at" thing is supposed to be the correct way, but I could have swore I read somewhere that this was being phased out so you don't need to include "at". I could've just been dreaming since that's the way it works and all though.

And yea, I haven't been able to do the emote while sitting. Was thoroughly confused as to whether it was a bug or not, now I see it is.

Dirty lies.  Sit bar is alive and well.

Are you fairly new?  I knew that a few months ago, before the new sit-emote code came in, it was quite common to get newbies, and plenty of not-so-newbies doing "The tall, brown-haired man sits, bar." whenever they forgot to include "at."

Ha, okay that's amusing. Good thing they got rid of that.
