Title: assess -v kank
Post by: RunningMountain on May 11, 2005, 04:47:54 AM
Anyone ever noticed how kanks are really tall? Is this purposeful? My current character is almost seven feet tall and the kank is taller then me! That's pretty big, I always imagined them being maybe 4-5 feet high, almost 6 on a really large kank, but never 8+ feet high, I can understand their weight differentials, but the height? Doesn't really make much sense.

Height.. Hmmm... It is referred to as, kank's being ..Long?

So it is not the height from the ground.  If it stood on its rear legs though, it would have that much height.

Riding a  Kank or other insect isn't  the same as riding a horse.... I always got the imression that part of the riding skill involved the way..  You don't  kick an armored insect(the size of an SUV) to get it to move... you will it to do so.. Might explain why some race/class combos get an edge :)

I agree with Ghost. Kanks move on all 4's (or 6's? I forget how many legs they have). So their bodies are parallel to the ground in any case. But if theywere to "stand up" they'd be very tall. When they're not "standing up" they're very long and that's the "taller than you" part, if you were to lay down and stretch your legs and arms out next to a kank.

Yeah. Another to consider is that their large coded size prevents people from doing stupid things like bashing or subduing them.

In Darksun (tm) kanks were controlled through their antennae.  Different taps/prods would result in the bug moving/stopping etc.

Seems as good an idea as any

Yeah that was a pretty cool way to control them. They were also very easily controlled by psionics, and I remember while reading a book that High Templar Tithian? I think had entered the mind and was watching the rebels as they made their way across the salt flats.
