Title: PSA to Staff: locking threads serves no purpose.
Post by: triste on July 11, 2020, 11:01:48 PM
People make new threads to replace the ones you lock.

Seems to be a way to strong-arm your way into a debate -- lock the thread and sermonize. Not really respectful.

There is also a consistent pattern of shutting down threads started by people of color, threads in which women complain about being silenced, etc. I just want to kindly reflect on what's going on here and express my hope that it ends.

Or it could be because some people can't actual discuss a thing without flaming, raging, or acting like 5 year olds having a temper tantrum. So no, I don't in the least bit appreciate it being painted otherwise, nor will it foster any better behaviour or discussion.

I didn't see people throwing temper tantrums, I saw people standing up for principles and debating them. But thank you for not locking this thread I do appreciate it!

You see a pattern.  I see a different pattern.  Could it be having to do with the genders or racial profiles of posters?  Or... could it be that every thread that's been locked has been a pointless, bickering dumpster fire of drama and insults?

The insults always start with people lobbing them at the POCs and women concerned, not the other way around. So yes, there is a pattern. Minority voices are drowned out by insults, until the thread is closed entirely. Trolling is a great strategy for silencing the disempowered, thank you for your gif.

Well, that took two minutes to see where this will go as well.

Next thread like this to start up, with the exact same principle as the last 5 to be locked can be met with a board ban. Enough is enough.

Disagree with me, the staff complaint tool exists.
