There's no Ask the Players forum anymore... is this the second HRPT we've ever had on arm? I think I joined a few days after the last one.
No, there have been many HRPTs.
HRPT thread? HRPT thread.
Someone detail what has happened in previous HRPTs? ???
(assuming its basically zalanthian history)
This was an HRPT:
Quote
1596 (Year 56 Age 21)
An earthquake strikes the whole Known, being felt everywhere and by everyone. Then, a large shape crosses the sky and seems to settle over Suk-Krath, bringing complete darkness to the world. In the darkness, moisture falls from the air, and for a brief time, rain comes to the Known.
As the darkness stretches on over days and into a week, the streets of the cities become dangerous. In Allanak, rioters set fire to buildings and lynch gemmed; in Tuluk, crime runs rampant. Nobles and templars for the most part remain huddled in safety.
At the end of a full week of darkness, the shadow lifts from Suk-Krath to take its own place in the sky as a black moon which reflects no light. Shortly, a series of further crises strikes both cities. In Tuluk, repeated waves of murky water crash in from west of the Scaien Gates, leveling Red Sun Commons, destroying many buildings, leaving thousands dead, and flooding UnderTuluk. While in Allanak, the city comes under attack from fire elementals as a volcano rises in the southwest, obliterating the critical farming villages of Menos and Taki and destroying the nearby camp of the Al'Seik tribe. In and around Luir's, creatures of stone cause death and destruction while fierce, tearing winds kick up.
In the aftermath, Allanak suffers massive, devastating starvation; Tuluk struggles to rebuild, while UnderTuluk and its people are no more. The halflings seem to be gone from the Grey Forest, and kryl and things previously unknown move in to take their place in the vastly changed landscape. The Al'Seik are nearly completely lost and must take up residence in the tents of the Arabet. And it is rumored that even in the alleys of the Labyrinth, changes were seen after the dark.
So was this, IIRC:
Quote
1579 (Year 39 Age 21)
An army of gith holds Allanak in an extended period of loose seige, using the citystate's extensive sewer system to infiltrate the city from beneath the ground. An organized defense effort consisting of the Arm of the Dragon, the T'zai Byn, and the Great Merchant Houses beats back the majority of gith forces within the city. A large portion of the gith threat claims the Borsail estate, however, despite House Tor's concentrated defense of the noble's quarter. The farming villages, responsible for much of the city's grain production, are attacked at roughly the same time, though the gith hoarde is defeated with a counterattack, led by Lord Templar Samos Rennik. The besieged Borsail estate, declared to be treacherous, is sunk into a pit of lava shortly thereafter by the Black Robe Tarith Kasix, effectively ending the gith threat.
There's been what, 5 or 6?
I'm pretty sure the seige/fall of Tuluk was an HRPT, right? Also the mantis invasion of Luir's and the retaking. The Copper War was an HRPT as well.

Yea, the fall of Tuluk and the retaking was too, right? Because the Rebels gathered and planned. I recall stories about this/ that.

I was at 2 of those.
The Fall of Luir's: It was about my first Bynner (when I had played before, there was AFAIK, no Byn) and I was like "Luir's wtf? Where am I?" And there was some dwarf smoking spice, and I thought that was so scandalous because I'd only been playing in 'nak.
I remember one of the troopers got thrown about three rooms by a [redac]illot. (Sorry, JdM)
The Gith invasion of Allanak, that was a pretty big event. I'm not sure if its labeled HRPT.

There may have been a couple others in there. I'd assume the 2003 and 2004 ones are (respectively) the Occupation and Liberation, but I can't be positive without more research. 2006 would've been the Copper War. The Githpocalypse was not an HRPT. 2009 was the debut of the black moon, and 2013 is, well, now.
For those of you lamenting that you won't be there, I'm sorry. Hopefully you will be around afterwards, then:
Quote from: Adhira on July 15, 2013, 12:43:16 PMWe also expect that after the HRPT there will continued 'escalated' roleplay opportunities. I'm sure that all players, across all timezones, will in some way feel an impact and benefit from the HRPT, whether they are able to attend this one event, or not.
There were others before we switched to the last board too. The old old board

Claiming as new SIG
I wasn't playing at the time, but I would assume the destruction of Old Tuluk (and the other worldwide events) was on the HRPT-level too.
What about the seige of Allanak and Thrain Ironsword?

I think the 2003 one was the Liberation, and the 2004 one was the retaking of Luirs. I started playing sometime in 2004 and Luirs had just been declared a bug free zone, IIRC.

Thought Tuluk was freed in 2002.

I always liked playing in Tuluk when it WAS occupied. It had a very unique feeling to it. Like a small village that people actually spent a lot of time playing in.
You know how you always wanted to play that character that lived in a Allanaki farming village? Occupied Tuluk kind of felt how that would feel, if those villages had populations of PCs.
Quote from: Desertman on July 16, 2013, 11:34:52 AMYou know how you always wanted to play that character that lived in a Allanaki farming village?
So true. So very true. Except I didn't want to play a farm-slave.

The taking of Tuluk by Nak was a HRPT as well. Before that, the Cataclysm was a HRPT.
I've only managed to make two HRPT out of the 5 or 6 while I have been around. Both were quite cool.
The Nov '03 and May '04 HRPTs were definitely the Luir's invasion/liberation ones (and the peripheral stuff). My first (well, only) Kuraci PC joined like a month before that Nov '03 HRPT, and it was awesome to be in Kurac at the time.
I don't know exactly when the Tuluki occupation was; it was before I started playing in September of 2002.
I've been through 4.
This will be my first.
First one ever for me too.
It will be the first HRPT for many people...how excited they must feel!

I'm sad to say....this will be my first. Although, I had a character that was very involved in all the buildup to one, I missed the actually thing itself.
I'm an HRPT virgin.
Which one was it?
When the world was supposed to end but then didn't. :p
And I skimmed the end of the 2006 one I think, but I wasn't really paying attention to what was going on. I was in a newb bubble.
Was the detruction of Mal Krian considered an HRPT?
Yes... I remember those days

tfw you are pretty sure you know whats going to happen
Maybe I do. ;)
So close, so far away.
I've missed the actual dates of several hrpts, but I have been involved in the build up to most of them. This is the first one that I'll miss AND miss. The end of Tuluk's Occupation is the first one that I can remember being a part of.

It is the very beginning of this epic HRPT to come.

You totally suck at climbing, and fall - you end up landing on top of Warriorpoet's body (his neck sits at such an odd angle?), which happens to be very nice and soft, and conveniently still warm.
Another person falls in from above - on top of Warriorpoet's body.

Iirc that entire contract was a colossal fuck up. If it makes you feel any better, I almost bandage-killed Lt. Raul too. Oops. :-X
How I feel logging in right now.

Gearing up with Warhammer movie.= Arma HRPT tingles.
I really can't wait! My poor girlfriend will be starved of attention tonight! ;D
One of my previous chars survived the black moon HRPT by a stroke of luck, but then died in one of the most ridiculous and pointless ways possible.
Staff is pretty cool for allowing quick characters if you die.
Really, that's an awesome thing to do for players.
It's a brand new day
And the sun is high
Hear the angels sing
Because you're gonna die
Winds cord the sands to woeful song
From my posted vantage atop the dune
Standards tower across camps, many soldiers strong
Warlords' gathered mass of doom.
I've posted a version of this on a clan forum, but maybe this will help those of you that are new to HRPTs or even veterans. Things to remember!
1. It is going to be hectic. We've done what we can to try to make the hectic stuff much less of a fast-paced, break-neck spamfest of commands, but in the end, you will need to be vigilant and pay attention. Some suggestions are to use brief combat and to also have color highlights already set up for things you really need to notice.
2. You may or may not die, be maimed, etc. We're not necessarily out to get you specifically, but this is an HRPT. HRPTs mean shit hits the fan. Shit may also hit you. You may also hit the fan. The fan may be a lie.
3. Despite the above, you have the ability to affect what happens to you, to your people, and to other things in the world. Your action or inaction may not necessarily affect you, your unit, those around you, your city-state, your region, or the world as a whole...but it also might.
Nice. I guess this means there will be tons of corpses to loot :D

I meant t minus 3 hours and (now) 15 minutes. I don't know why I said that it way.

I'm not sure how to feel about newbies during the HRPT.
Could be super exciting.
Also could be super, duper confusing.
Yeah, I'm worried about the newbies.

This was pretty cool, I'm glad I was allowed to see at least a part of what happened. though I didn't do anything out of fear I'll attack someone from my side and fuck it up royally. It really felt like I was untrained half-giant with poor wisdom :)
Awesome! Thanks for putting it together, staffers.
So is this the thread where we thank staff for a fun (if occasionally wtfspammy) HRPT and plots that kept almost everyone guessing?
Because if so, thanks guys. I'm sure you worked your asses off. I had a blast.
Yes, thanks.
I'm liking the world actually in war now.
This was a lot of fun. Thank you staff for putting on a good time.
Thank you, staff.
Recruits! Time to get back to training!

Liberation of Tuluk was April 2002. It was a learning experience where what we learned was, Halaster liked killing PCs en masse with unit npcs.
I remember.
>take ring body
The templar shouts out, "the next person to touch a body dies!"
A unit of soldiers hits you on your neck, doing terrible damage!
BEEP.

So many earthquakes. Didn't that same earthquake also make Allanak 50 rooms bigger, and Melith's Circle an Oval ?
Halaster Recommended Playing Times, yeah.

Since we're reminiscing about HRPTs of old..
1476 (Year 13 Age 20)
Allanak, after centuries of bloodshed and war, launches a successful assault on the Northlands. In a series of bloody battles, Allanaki troops conquer the region of Gol Krathu. The lone surviving Allanaki templar, Elaira Fale of the Blue, is credited with the victory. However, the invaders are unable to finish the job, as Muk Utep holes up in his pyramid and an indefinite siege begins.
In this battle, my psionicist kid Bynner totally almost made it to the gates of Tuluk, wading through a ridiculous war of death and carnage. Just about everything that was there died. Except that is for Lieutenant Kroz of the Byn, who my kid was following, cutting down entire NPC units left and right (back then, units weren't so tough when you disarmed their single wielded weapon, heh! Halaster learned from that one!). The only reason my kid psi died actually, was that he saw 13507892356 coins in some templar's body as the parade was rolling on past, so he left the group to go back a room to pick it up.. and promptly got squished by an enemy HG going by. Oh, how times don't change in that last respect.. :D
1516 (Year 53 Age 20)
After forty years of Allanaki occupation, the Sun Legions of Tuluk launch a surprise attack on the Southern forces occupying the Gol Krathu region. Composed of members of the Sun King's Legions, the Rebellion, various human tribes of unknown origins, and hordes of hideously mutated and deformed creatures, the army successfully penetrates the Scaien Walls and liberates the land inside. The Allanaki Red Robes Sathis Valika and Aquila Nenyuk are slain in a duel with Isar, who is also mortally wounded during the confrontation. In the confusion, Kul himself is also cut down as the Tuluki forces make their way towards Luirs, liberating it from Allanaki occupation as well. Here, the Allanaki Red Robe Ihsahn Kasix and his units are caught between the Tuluki army and Kuraci militia. They are summarily executed.
In this battle, my character watched Precentor Kul die. He was fighting with a massive, crazily magicked out sword. My character, being an enterprising southern magicker living openly in the north, promptly picked up that massive, crazily magicked out sword.
Someone sends,
"Put that down right NOW"
Welcome to Armageddon!
Ah, good times as always. 8)
