Title: Landscape Picture
Post by: on February 26, 2003, 07:10:35 PM
I recently found the program called Terragen, and had been messing around to create a fairly decent picture of a random piece of Zalanthas.
I think, by room descriptions, Im getting closer, but the sky might be the most off thing. Here is the current picture Ive been using.

Pretty snazzy!!  Is it just a landscape program, or can you add architecture or figures?

A picture of Whira's Tower would be pretty wicked through that, I think.

and thanks for the comments.

ill try to do some scrub plains ones.

and you cant add things through the program itself, but you can save as a bitmap and then draw in whatever you want really.

No offense Arm players but I like Jenreds sky WAY better.
I like a yellow sky tons more than a red one.

Beautiful Jenred, with a capital "B"

Very nice render, Jenred.

Y'know.. I've had Terragen on this computer for a pretty long time; before I started playing Arm.  It never even crossed my mind to use the program to render Zalanthan landscapes.  Going to have to try to make some of my own now.  :)

Here's my first attempt at some Zalanthan scrublands.  A bit too much green stuff, I think; going to have to tweak that more.

Added what I think is a better render of a canyon. Maybe in the Table lands, but to me it has the canyon of waste feel.

HaiWolfe, I like the scrub. Yeah, probably a little less green, and more brown.. well, tangles of scrub. Probably a bit flatter too. That's just me though.

Since people liked the canyon ones I did a few more since they were a bit easier. Ill try to do some desert things if I can work out a sand look.

Got a question, Jenred.  How are you setting it to get the sky that color? Seems that no matter what I do, I get a horizontal gradient going from dark brown to yellow.

took awhile to figure out, i did the direct sunlight in a reddish color, then in the next tab over you can do tri-colored lighting, setting the downward light, ambient, and reverse lighting. that did alot of it.

then in the atmosphere fiddle with the haze effects, and change the constant blue... all together came out to the right effect.

Badlands (http://www.geocities.com/crymerci/badlands.jpg)

Cool.  I like what you did with the clouds... look more like dust swirling in the air.  Really neat sky in the third picture.

Wow. These are all REALLY good. The worst ones are 10 times better then my best ones :P

Why doesn't someone do Gol Krathu, The Red Desert, Sea of Eternal dust.....

Hey just because mine are better then yours doesn't mean you have to call them the worst! It's the computers fault not mine.

I'll do something else when I get bored... Maybe try a island in silt. The fog and sand looking stuff works ALOT better when you have water stuff.

Yeah, geocities is gay and I think think it doesnt like links. You have to type in the adress manually... I think thats the word...

Or you can just click on the link and then hit enter in the address bar.`

No matter what I do I get a faulty geocities link... Oh well. I don't think my browser likes bitmaps either for some reason.

I tried something else... But thats all I got...

Oh yeah, I could copy and paste the links in but then it just takes 1,000,000 years to load because Terragen bitmaps are gigantic, and they dont compute with my little dial-up.

Oh well... um maybe Ill see them later.

I saved them as jpegs instead and edited the links, so they should a) load easier and b) suck up my free bandwidth slower.
