So, watching the event and thinking of some past stored PCs.
And I think it would be cool if you could opt to have your PC penned instead of straight storage.
Penned with actual history, people who love or hate them because of that.
I think I'd like to see this happen in specific scenarios - when your character commits some vast crime and you're set to be enslaved/force-stored, perhaps instead they could be like, "ooc so hey if you want your character to end up as a gladiator instead of just being stored, submit a request to x, y, z".
I think just /anybody/ being able to become a gladiator would be a real cheap easy way out of the "one character only" clause, by somebody being able to keep someone they cared a ton about and not having to worry about making their next person, etc. But if Borsail enslavement was one of the options given to you upon slavery-storage of your character, then, that would be fucking neat.
I personally love this idea!
We have done this in the recent past and will continue to do this when situations arise in which it's an option. This is not going to be an option of storage, however. It will be the result of IC action.
(I like this idea.)
I have seen this happen in game.
I once spent a RL day, on one of my early PCs, locked up in the gladiator pens awaiting my execution. It was actually a lot cooler than a straight up neck-snap, because this way my PC got to way his friends and encourage them to bet all their sid (which, if anyone did that, I'm sorry for your loss). I thought it was really cool of the Templar and staff to give me this option.
Keep in mind, I do think there should be limitations. Like, needs be warrior or ranger or maybe assassin, should be limited to at least 1 karma, needs be at least 25 days played and more then 6 RL months old. And even after that staff could just say Meh, no, to many glads already, Pc will simply be stored. But, having maybe a simple 'Hey, I would be down with this PC becoming penned." Option on storage request.
Not to "keep the beloved PC" But to flesh out the glads. Look, many of the penned are well played and I like them, but it is really hard to care about them. They are not "organic"
I don't see why you have to limit it, or even could without some blatant guild sniffing.
I like the idea as a means of getting rid of characters AND giving additional depth to penned gladiators. Hell, I wouldn't be opposed to characters being sentenced to a night in the arena in lieu of paying a large fine.
Well, I can just see the abuse/silliness of people making merchants or other low combat PCs just to store them into penned. Guild sniffing aside. Nobody noble/Templar side would bother penning somebody unless they were known to be able to fight.
I love this idea. But I do agree it shouldn't be for just any character that wants it.
