Title: Animals & Associated Traits
Post by: flurry on April 10, 2004, 03:42:19 PM
This is something I've thought about now and then and I thought I'd post and see what ideas people have.

On Earth we have certain traits that we associate with animals.   Of course this varies a bit from culture to culture.   But a lot of fables, for example, are based on certain characteristics people connect with different animals.

For instance:  wisdom with owls, loyalty with dogs, cunning with foxes, industriousness with ants, etc.

What kind of traits would Zalanthans associate with different beasts in their folklore?

I do see some exmples of this in armageddon.

Foolishness or clumbsyness goes with jozhals.
Ex: 'Those jozhals never know when to shut up.'
or,  'Quit acting a jozhal.'

Strength with Carru's, 'We were sparing, then he knocked me down like  carru,' or 'built like a carru.'
For extreme strength you could put in mek.

Anakore seem to get crafty in the hunting/stalking sense.
'watch out for him, he's an anakore,'

Anyway, just a few I noticed.

What a neat topic!  Here's a few ideas:

As... sneaky as a goudra
 ... meek as an escru
 ... cunning as an anakore
 ... strong as a mekillot
 ... skittish as a vestric
 ... fierce as a jakhal
 ... clever as a raptor
 ... timid as a tregil

For hunting abilities and swift movement you can add raptor.

Yeah I heard IG "The other alley has a dwarf and a mul, which are real meks!"

Lazy as an inix
Virile like a tembo (attributing sexual aggressiveness, not ability to reproduce)
"Don't let her shyness fool you - she's like a gurth, just waiting to pop up and nip you!" (unpredictability)
Reliable (or hardy) as a kank

Ahh... as also I remember I used something when somebody asked my PC  how good he is in sword play, my answer was:
"Just better than a kank"

Most of them have been covered..

Tregils for weakness/cowardice/timidity.
Gortoks for being mannerless/brash/stubborn.
Quirri for being standoffish, unpredictable, quick to lash out.
Tembo for being tough, relentlessly aggressive, or sexually agressive.
Sandsnake for being quick or possessing movements which are silent and fluid.

This would be a really neat helpfile if this could be fully composed and maybe put in with other Zalathanus sayings.

Yeah, it does say 'graceful' in their description, so that's where I got it from. As for the wyvern, I was merely kidding.
