Title: Tell your first character's story...
Post by: NoteworthyFellow on July 03, 2008, 11:24:45 AM
(As per usual, no characters that have been alive within the last year.)

My first character, back in 2001, was an elven assassin in Allanak.  He spent a fairly decent potion of his starting 'sid on armor from that elf in the Bazaar that sells chitin armor, and acquired for himself two obsidian daggers.  Almost immediately, he met a cloaked figure with whom he had a short conversation, casually mentioning that he was an assassin.  The cloaked figure (a character, by the way, who my elf never saw without his hood up) quickly informed the young elf never to just say that to people.  This figure, who happened to also be an elf, took our young assassin under his wing, taught him how to cook travel cakes, and lent him the coin to join the T'zai Byn.  The wannabe assassin also met a young human girl whom he befriended and often chatted with in the Gaj when he wasn't cleaning the latrines.

Soon, there came a Recommended Playing Time, and the elf's Byn unit was sent out to hunt some gith.  He helped kill several of the roaming gith raiders along the North Road until they came up near the Shield Wall, when he found himself the target of one of the gith they were fighting.  He was wounded and opted to flee--right over the Shield Wall.

So.  What was your first dose like?

EDIT: If your first character wasn't all that exciting, go ahead and list the one that got you hooked.  Oh, and from further down in this thread, from Rahnevyn:

QuoteAlso, make no mention of any PCs who are currently still alive, or of plots which you think still may be going on.

Boring merchant girl who looked boring and acted boring and went to work for Kadius, which was boring, and I was bored...so I stored. That wasn't the character that hooked me on ARM, though, pretty obviously.

Well, my real first was a merchant named Jerusalem Rivers, but I really can't remember anything about him other than the fact that he tried to craft arrows in Allanak for a living in the middle of the Gaj, and that some Templars (and many others) thought it prudent to ask him why he had the last name Rivers (being that there are no rivers in Zalanthas, something I really didn't totally comprehend). He wanted to start a merchant house and stuff, too - I really don't remember much more about him.

My first to really get the game, though, was an elf warrior named Krist. He started in Allanak, spent all his starting money, went and twink-killed an NPC in the Barrel (which took maybe ten minutes real life, even though the NPC was unarmed) because he was starving, fled-self from a dwarf named Gold who came along as the NPC died, met a Kuraci who recruited him ten minutes after the twink-kill, and quickly decided to join Kurac, finding passage to the Outpost was leaving nearly immediately. He rode to the Outpost on a wagon, started to really enjoy serving Kurac, was ordered to learn to ride by his sergeant, and then subsequently told to get the fuck off the kank by a staff, and eventually got some real good notes and stuff. He trained under Davaz and learned the old mul's Bladestorm fighting style (which was, mind you, a literal script attacked to my character that would make him do awesome shit), created one of the cairns south of Luir's for his fallen sergeant, killed a unit of gith once and then heroically survived a nine-gith ambush solo later on - they just kept coming and he nearly died, but...I didn't twink. He made sergeant too, and at somewhere between 50-60 days of played time, died of starvation when I fell asleep at the keyboard. *sigh*

I have never played an elf since, because I never felt like I got it, but the only elf I ever played did alright.

I had a burglar in Red Storm.  I tried to pick the lock of the only locked door in red storm with my fingers, and spent 20 minutes before it popped back, 'Pick with what?'

I walked to Allanak, and met up with another boy, and he said we should go exploring.  We went into the 'rinth, and I fell down the well and got hurt.  He told me to sleep it off so I did.  He killed me.

My first was an assassin, a couple of years ago.. never mentioned to anyone he was an assassin and next to never dressed completely like one. Joined a House through sheer luck, avoided being eaten by a certain Senior Lord Templar over a slight misunderstanding over how the Law works.

Anyway, said character lived a long time and never was really good at anything except being hard to see while standing still.

My first character was nothing to write home about, and my second wasn't, either. My third, however, was the one that got me hooked to Armageddon.

Azhaj Salbadr, the suk-krath tattooed man, was a young warrior/mercenary who joined the Byn hoping for 'sid and glory. Unfortunately for him, he didn't find it there. What he did find, though, was a partner in debauchery that he stuck with until his early, and untimely demise. When they were still runners, the pair would spend many-a-night (and many-a-day, sneaking away unbeknownst to their superiors) in the Gaj, drinking away the little 'sid they had. They did this for some time until, by chance, Azhaj had a meeting with a young, chubby Salarr employee. This crazy bitch of a tribal offered Azhaj and his partner a job after they talked for a bit, and they jumped on the opportunity, eagerly leaving their abas and patches with their sergeant.

This is where Azhaj's life got interesting. He wasn't really involved in anything secret, or magickal, or earthshattering, but he did drink and smoke spice a lot. He hit on pretty much any woman he saw (including the aforementioned Salarri, his boss, lovingly referred to as Titsy), and often got into trouble for it. Mostly, though, Azhaj just had a good time doing whatever the fuck he was doing, until he fell in a hole and died of thirst.

Though he never really got around to doing anything great, I had a blast with that crazy motherfucker, and he's still my favorite character out of the forty-six I've had.

Raleth - the portly, bearded man

Joined the Byn with his IG brother, Rame.

Was sparring with his sergeant, Henna, when she cracked his skull open with a mercy-on chop to the head, killing him.

So it goes.

My first was a member of a nomadic human tribal family called the Larati.  He was ugly, cowardly, shy, awkward and pretty much confirmed as being totally worthless by his people.  His life had essentially devolved into following after the families' dilapitated caravan, scavenging their leavings.

Disgusted with this life and himself, in the first bold descision of his existence, he abandoned the family and staggered off across the sands towards the first outpost the caravan passed close to.

That was Danu.  The outpost that he crawled into (poor, unskilled and completely clueless about the rest of the outside world) was Luirs.  He ended up serving Kurac for almost four IG decades and eventually, with -plenty- of misteps and screw-ups, managed to rise to the rank of Advisor to the House in Trade Operations.  He saw the world, met with the important and powerful, became crippled, fantastically wealthy, corrupt and old.

It turned out that he wasn't quite as incompetent as his Uncles thought he was.

My first was a Tuluki who eventually joined the greatness that was Salarr. This was way before OH MY GOD ITS SALARR! This was back when Oreoni was Sergeant and Aliha (?) was Journeywoman. My character eventually made Corporal after leading a completely insignificant life of training (while I was OOC learning how to play). Eventually we headed down to Allanak and my character was bedazzled by this huge ass city. So wondrous was my character, he explored and eventually found himself in the rinth where he found many cloaked figures fighting one another. Attempting to intervene, like any good Salarr Corporal would, he marched right on in and summarily got shanked.

The first character I had that got me hooked was a human pickpocket in Tuluk. I couldn't tell you which character he was, but I had wasted many just learning how to play the game.

Anyway, this pickpocket was around for a certain mantis filled HRPT, though I had forgotten about the HRPT and just happened to log in at the perfect time. So this pickpocket stepped out onto the street to see a huge crowd of people cheering, passing weapons around, etc. The mantis came and started killing people left and right, but left my pickpocket completely untouched. (Remember, I was still fairly new to the game, and mass-combat was impossible to understand for me.) Eventually, I saw a PC whith whom I was fairly familiar being attacked by mantis. In an attempt to be heroic, I grabbed one of those cross-hilted, bone bastard swords off the ground and ran east to save my friend. Once I got there, I miraculously managed to rescue him, but then  realized that the sword was too heavy for me to use and as a result lost that character.

Not the greatest story, but it was one of the first good ones I had.

I started my first character as a scrounging beggar (since I didn't know how to roleplay any of the professional institutions the vast world provided.) Bored one day with not finding anything out in the streets, she decided to wander around outside the gates, (stupid RPG thought process here...) and walked down the road west. A cloaked figure rode in one some sort of creature, (didn't know what a sunlon was at the time,) and paused to greet my girly.

Figure: "Hello. Why are you uh... out of the city without a mount?"
Girly: "I don't know."
Figure: "Oh all right."
<pause>
Figure dismounts and stands over my resting girly.
Figure: "Give me your sid."
Girly: "No!" *clings to 1000 sid*
Figure: "All right."
Figure subdues girly. Girly doesn't know how to break free. Girly is strapped onto sunlon like a pack, (with emotes, I'd reckon.) Figure rides to Shield Wall, threatens to throw her over. Girly still says no. Figure suddenly gets an idea, and draws his club. Figure knocks out Girly. Girly wakes up at western Allanaki gates with a shirt, boots, and a lump on her head.

This was naturally my first real interaction with another roleplayer, and my first introduction to just how the world worked in general terms. Very compelling for me.

The pale, jade-eyed male

This pale young male, Israfel a half-elf, with a outstandly terrible main-desc (should have got a reward for how bad it was) was a poor down on his luck fool with dreams of becoming a great hunter of the wastes. Well, children, this poor out of his luck half-elf was quite lonesome and needed 'sid. He eventually, went to the bazaar to buy some gear, hacker, such as that. To late to go mining this week he said, so he went to the bar and made a friend! The next week, he goes out for some mining and all is well, mines for a while.. and.. it all went to Drov then! HE FORGOT TO BUY WATER! Suffering and unable to make it back to the city, our hero starts crawling slowly back only to be found by a Salarri, oh joy were his thoughts, I'll be safe! So, this Salarri goes on to rant about how terrible his life is, how everyone this and that, and pulled out a huge emo-feastival of rants on our dying hero. Our hero, the smart lad he was, went and contacted his friend to save him, she comes out to give him water and OH NO the salarri turns on them! Kill him as he tries to run for he knows to much, and then that is the end of our poor hero. A knife thrown into his back, ended his dreams.

This obviously was not the PC that got me into the addiction.....
Hope you enjoyed the story!!  :-*

Ok fine.  My first character was an eager, patriotic, bright-eyed Tuluki named Valentine.  I made her after reading the documentation obsessively.  She was a merchant/acrobat.  Her background detailed her dead Kuraci parents and her semi-incestuous relationship with her half-brother, who disappeared to go to Allanak and look for his fortune.  She spent her starting sid on weird stuff accidentally, because I didn't understand the buy command, or any command.  After a couple days of wandering around in confusion, I stumbled across Holten Irofel, whose player gave me a quick ooc lesson in syntax and emoting.  Thanks Marko, wherever you are.

A bunch of other stuff happened with passing out and being robbed repeatedly because of that damn Way, joining Kurac, having way too much mudsex (on the plus side, I really learned that emote code), and standing around awkwardly while Shatuka beat the crap out of people.  Then Valentine ended up dying to terradin in the Sanctuary, ending the story where it began, and I'm pretty sure someone looted my boots.

Here I am now about three years later, still standing around awkwardly while everyone else is a badass.

Let's see...

Adara was a dwarf who's parents were in a traveling performing caravan. When she was a baby the caravan was attacked and her parents murdered along with everyone else in the caravan. The scoundrels didn't kill her though, instead they kidnapped her and fled to Allanak. Her captors cared for her as their own and never told her what happened until she entered into adolescence. Adara saw red and began becoming very interested in her "parents" work as assassins. She began training as a teen and one night slipped out and away from them, focusing on finding them once she'd really honed her skills and kill them, but not before finding out everything that she could about the night her parents were killed. She lived on the dirty, dusty streets of Allanak for a time until she happened upon a couple homely, old dwarves near the Gaj. She struck up conversation with them and it turned out that they were some survivors of the massacre on the caravan. They were utterly surprised to find Adara alive, they thought that she had been taken and killed as some sort of sacrifice or other such nonsense. They took her into their home and "adopted" her, taught her what they knew of weapons crafting, and tried to help her uncover as much about what happened and why as they could. As Adara came of age her new family grew older and more withered and though they loved her deeply they couldn't really support her anymore, so once again, Adara took to the streets of Allanak. She eventually ended up outside the gates of the Byn where a trooper, another dwarf named Axel, stumbled upon her. Though gruff and tough, he took her under his wing and into the Byn. After a time, Axel and Adara fell in love and as such he became part of her focus. It was a whirlwind romance that included lots of kanking with their weapons on and pants at half mast. Axel rose through the ranks to become Sergeant and Adara quickly followed by becoming a trooper. As goes in the Byn, there was lots and lots of training to be had, and Axel being her Sarge helped her in the respect that he allowed her to do her special training while everyone else did the rough and tumble shit. She was seen often around the streets of Allanak sneaking around in the shadows (until she became good at it of course), practicing her craft. She formed many friendships while in the Byn, but none so strong as her relationship with Axel, and when he died to save her and another trooper it tore her apart. She had many sleepless nights, went through a period where she couldn't eat, even had a round or two with attempted suicide, but her friends and new Sergeant gave her a wake-up call. In the end she jumped from the Byn saying that she needed to go out into the sands to find herself and focus back on what happened to her family.

Yeah, I stored her. What a first character though, huh?

My first character was a human assassin from the 'rinth. Got an interview from Pearl about joining the Crimson Wyverns.. didn't work out so much. Spent the rest of his relatively short life making friends of people and luring them into the 'rinth where stuff would kill them, and he'd take their gear.

Everything went great until I decided to wear some of the awesome gear I was getting and ultimately died in the very same way as those poor folks.

Fortunately, I don't think I've done anything quite so stupid since.

Vansier. The compact, coal-bearded man. Or Vanse. Human merchant/stonecrafter that got hired into Kadius after a few months of indie work.

Had a lot of... pretty terrible misadventures in Kadius. Most of which involved one or two people under him doing something like putting a live gurth on the bar in the Sanctuary, at which point it promptly bites a noble, destroys the bar, and causes an enormous ruckus.

Eventually stored him due to not having any time left.

Okay, my first character was Kronibas.

After having my first app rejected on the basis that "the Blackwing elves would not have let Kronibas live after slaughtering the caravan his
family was on," I reached some sort of compromise with the imms and made it in.

I started at Red Storm and marched right out onto the plains.  It took all of five minutes to earn death by siltflyer.

While waiting at the gates of Red Storm to regenerate move points, a Kuraci group came across him, and he began to ask them for help
"getting his corpse back."

They steered me away from that, made my naked ass character get on a beetle and sent him up to Luir's, where he was made a Kuraci.

One of the big things Zune said was:  Don't go into gypsy lands!  Don't you do it!

So what I do?  Enter gypsy lands..

and someone saw him and told on him!  you know who you are, too!   the end.

Liya, the lithe, red-haired woman. Half-elf ranger/archer.

Got picked up by Durg and his crew after an hour or so of wandering aimlessly around in Tuluk's streets. They put up with my complete newbishness and borderline twinkery (aka stumbling in the gates at poor health going "hey I killed a gortok all by myself!") and turned me into a competent player. I repaid them by ditching the crew for IC reasons and going it on her lonesome in the wilderness for the next couple months. During that time she befriended an Anyali and told stories around the campfire, got picked on by Kuraci regulars, got pissed at those darn Kuraci and mouthed off to Samar Kurac, who took her elf "friend" hostage until she apologized to him, got raided for the duskhorn leather collar that she was so proud of, passed out on the road and got kidnapped by a mul named Surak, who actually saved her life from an elf who was going to kill her, got ambushed by gith and fell off the shield wall, and tried to impress an elf by going along with him on a wezer hunt. Her life ended there, with a mocking psi the last thing I saw before the *beep*.

She lived a little over 18 days. I had such an awesome time.

My first two+ characters didn't do anything.
I had an elf, to which I forgot the name, and he was a Southron C-elf Assassin, the first character this guy meets is a Guild Dwarf that wants to go onto this roof to watch the streets below for a secret entrance. Trying to climb 1 room up, I try "U,enter" U,enter" until I got frustrated, and u,u,u,u,u,u. Well, it turns out my first two ups worked and I climbed up too high. So Now I have to go down. I fall all the back down and pass out. I wake up with this dwarf standing over me, and he shakes his head and climbs back up. I stand and try to go up, but fall on my neck. I am out again. Another 15 minutes or so, I wake up with that dwarf over me, we climb back up the roof and we sit and watch the street for a while, looking for a secret entrance. We sit there for an hour, but nothing happens, so we try to climb down and I fall on my neck. After another 15 minutes, I wake up with the dwarf standing over me. He tells me some stuff, and I go back to the south side. I pass the world famous Gaj and I see some leaves in this plant, "Oh cool!" I think. I needed food and they looked edible. Get all plant.

4 npc soldiers destroyed me.

I liked Adara too. 8)

My first character was an c-elf warrior named Aizwaz. He was pierced all over and had a noble fetish. Those two qualities made for some fun RP as he stared lustfully at a noble lady in the Barrel, only to be hauled outside by her and a Templar who plucked one of his piercings out. When confronted about what his problem was, all Aiz could say in his defense was that, "She's... so... clean!" Yeah, that Templar had an Aizwaz piercing collection after a short while.

He also had an exceptional agility and could bash scrabs on day one and kill tarantulas by day two. Thinking he was all bad ass, he got into it with a gith woman that disarmed him, thumped him over the head with a mace, and it was lights out for my first PC.

My first character was back in the mid-90s.  I created the character, logged in, typed "WHO" and saw 6 people. Wandered around a bit and saw no players. Logged out and never logged back in again, not for many years.

The first character I have a clear memory of was Morgi, a mutant in Allanak and a ranger -- the only ranger I've ever had that's lived a significant length of time. Morgi is third on my character list -- but I remember nothing about the second other than that he died fighting a scarab.  Morgi was a hunchback with a distended pot belly (yeah, huh), a 'melted' saggy face, and an understandably sour disposition.

I had read that the Byn was a good clan for newbies, so Morgi hacked at the obsidian deposits to get the 'sid, then and joined in short order.  I remember going on a hunt with my Sargent, being bored at sparring practice, and going on a couple contracts. Of the contracts, I can only remember being left behind to guard the mounts with the other runners while the 'real' characters went off to fight/die/have fun.

Poor Morgi had an abysmal wisdom, so he perpetually sucked at everything he tried to do -- he wasn't going to make Trooper with any speed.

The only other characters I have have any memory of from that time was the two Sarges -- although at this point I've forgotten their sdescs and names. One was a woman with red hair (I think) who was scary tough, and died on a contract.  The funeral afterward was nice.

Both the character and I were shocked to discovered that there were a whole bunch of mutants in Tuluk.  So one day, I got super bored of sucking at sparring, mounted up, and decided to head to Tuluk.  I'd had never even been as far as Luirs (which I think at the time was infested with Mantis). Promptly fell off the Shield Wall. There may have been something aggressive at the bottom, because I was staring at the Mantis screen seconds later.

My first character :Kidral.  Enlisted with Salarr as a guard and spent about a decade with them and made it up to Sergeant, and then got fired. A fellow Sergeant from salarr wanted to help him out and so talked to his friends at Kurac and got him a job with them. Took a wagon from Tuluk all the way down to Red storm, wasted with some old kuraci agent. All the other recruits at red storm thought the house hired a trainer or something to put them into shape because Kidral was quite the good fighter by now. Anyhow, he ended up eating something poisoned and dying right in the barracks. Bummer.

My first memorable character was probably Xavier. A stout ass dwarf with a focus to kick some ass. Joined Kurac, made some buddies. Ended up 'borrowing' a war bow from his Sarge's cot, and nearly getting the poor guy killed over it. Ended up going on a long ass scouting mission in the middle of the Tablelands with one of his buddies for upwards of three RL months, with no contact from the House. Ended up finding some seriously still IC shit. Whole army of Kuracis show up to investigate said shit. Xavier ends up biting it to....Some really fucked up shit...But just before, he subdues his sarge, and his best buddy in the whole wide world, throwing them one room away, before shouting "FAREWELL, SWINE!", a comment that to this day is on my account notes.

I'm uncertain as to whether its the staff saying "Kudos, that's a really badass last few words" or "Hey man, there ain't no fuckin' pigs in fuckin' Zalanthas, man."

Hmm.... Think his name was Jekar (I modeled him off of G'kar from B5).
Warrior/something crafter.... Went to by a kank, some large bags, and a glasshacker (actually bought a chisel first and had to go back in after it wouldn't work).
Worked for a few days, got robbed, got mad about being robbed, tried to suicide by walking off the shield wall...lived...
fell in a few holes in the tables lands, decided i was going to keep him and start making a living off all the stuff people left in holes... started back to Nak. Was killed by a gith.

Barzalene was a secret assassin, translator, with hair the color of heartbreak and she was either a brown-haired woman or desert-shaded.
She managed to get a job as a "translator" with Borsail. She was hired by someone who impressed the hell out of her by having their npc soldier hold the beaded curtain open for them. (It's the little things.)
She was dressed up in pretty clothing.
She was told don't go into the rinth.
She got lost trying to find the road that runs past the merchant estates and ended up on a street that leads into a bad part of town. She was attacked by a dirty man and ran, ran, ran. She saw a nice elf, and begged him for help.
Beep!

Kurac seem to have a habit of scooping up lost newbies....not in my case.

My first was a Tuluki Ranger/Linguist. Her parents had been in secret cohorts with a magicker, who had left with them a book and an apparent curse on her pregnant mother (with her). The result of 'magick' was her one green eye and one blue eye (or so they thought). By the time in her life I started playing her, both parents were dead and she walked around clutching this virtual book.

My friend who introduced me told me "Whatever you do, don't go outside of the gates." So I wandered around bored, confused and lost until I found the Kuraci divebar. There I started to make some friends. I met a Kuraci (?) who gave me some newb nudges on how to get jobs with Merchant Houses and who to speak to (I'd read ALL the documentation before apping).

I found myself finally in contact with a Kuraci Agent who I practically BEGGED for a job with Kurac. After telling him I could ride and speak three different languages he didn't give me a proper job. Instead he hired me to give him Allundean lessons at 25 'sid per lesson (ouch).

Then I made a new friend, a ranger and he decided to take me gurth hunting with him. So out we went. We found a gurth and chased it around a while until we were both knackered but it had stopped (no mounts). Then we unleashed upon it!

Then a raptor ran in, my ranger friend fled and mt character swiftly died.

I've only had one other Tuluki character after that, and that was recently. I'm not really hooked on Tuluk, but even from my boring first character I was hooked on Arm. It was the experience that hooked me - but the possibilities.

My only really memorable character is still too recent to mention.

April 22-August 13, 2006: Landra, of House Salarr.

Hired the day I first logged in. Merchant/hunter I think, or maybe ranger/armorcrafter. Something that would let me explore the world -or- stay in the city. The intention was to explore, but also be hireable and have a craft I could make money with in case the exploring gig didn't work out.

Got hired as an Assistant to an agent. The agent then promptly took the wagon and headed to Allanak, leaving Landra in Tuluk. The agent's player and I didn't usually log in at the same time, so it was rare to ever get in touch with him. There were occasional new-hires she'd meet up with, who never lasted long. And she was instructed not to leave the city, that she was too valueable to risk going out hunting by herself. And since I didn't know anything about anything outside of "help map tuluk" I heeded the instructions. And spent the next 3+ RL months being bored and frustrated out of my ass. An animated senior agent NPC took pity on poor Landra and gave her a couple of tasks that immediately sucked me into the game. And then the IMM who animated that NPC was transferred to a different clan, leaving Landra once more with no one to report to. No one to hire, no one to pay her, no authorization or method to buy or sell anything to or from anyone. Then her boss came back, and was promptly executed in the Sanctuary for being a mindbender.  I had thought oh hey, freedom finally - I'll grab some of his loot while moving his corpse back to the estate, and make a bee-line to Allanak after I buy a set of armor with my shop discount. Except, just at the moment the agent died, the game crashed. When it came back up, his body - and everything on it - was gone.

An NPC Senior instructed Landra that she'd have to transfer down to Allanak to work for this OTHER character whose player *never* logged in at the same time as me, and rather than have a repeat of the last three months in a different setting, I said fuck it and stored Landra.

It's gotten a *lot* better since then though :)

Late 2004/first half of 2005 was the life of Reneli.

Like countless other female players my first PC wound up being an aide and having way too much mudsex. I think it's some kind of peculiar initiation ritual for this game. :P She was snatched up by Elyziah, an Atrium hostess, and made an Atrium student. (I only much later realised Elyziah was an NPC and not a player, haha.) Reneli eventually mudsexed her way into being a Borsail aide for Aequin and Ysta, two awesome nobles for a new player to learn from. She kept on mudsexing and ended up with a nice apartment, lots and lots of silks, a good deal of money, and some pretty decent skills as a pickpocket. More mudsex later she was promoted to Advisor (senior aide), working for Shareyn, Veralius and Ilpalazzo Borsail, with some junior aides under her. Back at the time I thought this was super hot shit.

Reneli wanted to be promoted to Administrator, which was the highest a commoner servant could get in Borsail, but the NPCs told her she had had too much mudsex and had a dirty reputation. Solution: become a concubine to a noble, have more mudsex, and bear the House a bastard noble. She did this, which of course led to endless drama after telling half the city she wouldn't sleep with them anymore. :P

So Reneli became a concubine to Veralius Borsail (I love you EvilRoeSlade, wherever you are) and got caught up in his hilariously badly planned plot to kill an NPC senior noble. Unsurprisingly the plot was found out, and as Vedralius' punishment, Reneli, his concubine, was sentenced to bear a mul for the House (mul mommies don't survive the birth.) At the time I thought this was soooooooooooo unfair. Now, looking back, I think it's soooooooooooo Zalanthan and awesome and not a very bad way to die.

I guess the initiation ritual worked.

My first pc was a human ranger that was picked up in Allanak by Khann and hired on as a guard/scout. Khann took him on a trip to Tuluk and while there he was sparring with some other guards in a pit when a soldier happened by and charged into the room attacking. He fled through the streets of Tuluk until he was cornered and killed by the soldiers.

My first two PC's were extremely short-lived.  Yzbella was my third and got me terribly hooked on the game.

She started out being a street performer and put on juggling/acrobatic shows outside the Barrel or Trader's.  I'd had dreams of her getting employment with House Fale and was terribly disappointed to learn that Fale didn't actually exist.  She managed to avoid the usual aide route for quite a long time though, between landing some lucrative gigs with various wealthy merchants and making a friend who used to take her out to the salt flats to greb for salt.  At some point she did get an offer of employment from Lady Nailah Borsail which she really didn't want because she was terrified of being around nobles and so, while not outright turning down the offer, managed to evade the Lady.

Fate, in the form of a blood-sucking templar, pushed her into having an interview with Pearl and being taken on as a student in the Atrium. The templar had been terrorizing her for over an IG year by then, taking her into locked tenement rooms, slicing her arm open and drinking her blood.  At the Atrium she caught the eye of Lord Prian Borsail. Somehow Pearl got wind of the torture by the templar, took pity on Yzbella and expedited her placement as a servant in Borsail.

She moved through the ranks in Borsail -- from junior aide to Lord Prian to senior aide supervising other servants to, finally,  Second Administrator to the Lord Commander.  All in all, it was a pretty heady experience for a newb to get to play with the fantastic RP'ers in Borsail like the players of Lord Prian, Lord Quaelus, and Lady Kavinny. And many fabulously played templars.  And, of course, Pearl.

My first character was, of course, Dalmeth.  He was a Tuluki hunter who managed to attain the rank of Sergeant in hardened, gritty group of mercenaries... numbering four.  The head of the group was Captain, the other guy who joined on with him was Lieutenant, and the last I never got to see, sadly.  They taught me the basics, like how to use the craft command, and I ran around Tuluk while those folks were doing all their business until they took me to Red Storm.  We actually robbed this one guy who was sleeping on the Salt Flats and fought off a raider elf.  Everything was going well until a group of five tarantulas attacked, and I was split from the group along with my mount.  In my newbishness, I'd also packed all my water onto my mount.  So, the poor fella started to dehydrate, leaving him too week to run away when a tarantula tracked him down and ate him.  It was great!  Probably lasted two months, at most.

Gosh darn, I miss those days. ;D

Cant really remember much of my first characters, as most of them dropped like flies.

One of the first that got me hooked on the game, or at least resulted in a memorable experience was one of my Byn characters.

Back in the days when whatever character of Byn character of ShaLeah's would dance on the Gaj bartop. There was some dual-sword wielding elf. And an incident in the latrines with a shit-monster (I think it was a rat).

First one I remember by name was my character Bjergar, which got de-sylallablized down to just "Gar". Don't remember much of his life, just that when he got out of the Byn he had made a few contacts, and died somehow :(

Ah, the good old days of total newbishness!

My first PC was Lyndra, the plaited, emerald-eyed woman. She was a warrior/mercenary. My husband is a long time Armer, and the one who got me started playing in the first place..and he recommended that combo, and joining the byn. So, being the dutiful wife that I am (haha) I promptly joined up with the byn. Akasha was the Sergeant at that time, and she took poor, dumb Lyndra under her wing, and I slowly learned the game, and really started to have a blast. I think Lyndra almost died to Gith the very first time she ever went out on a mission...my husband was in the room yelling "You have to FLEE!" I kinda didn't get the whole watching your HP during combat spam thing. Somehow she managed not to die of my stupidity for a while, and she made it to the Sergeant level in the Byn. Then, on basically her first mission with an Allanaki Templar, she was eaten by a big group of spiders when we went out on a spider hunt. I think it looked something like:

A big assed tarantula falls in from above.

A big assed tarantula starts fighting you.

A big assed tarantula falls in from above.

A big assed tarantula joins a big assed tarantulas fight!

A big assed tarantula falls in from above.

A big assed tarantula joins a big assed tarantulas fight!

A big assed tarantula falls in from above.

A big assed tarantula joins a big assed tarantulas fight!

BEEP! Welcome to Armageddon!

My first character was a Byn trooper called Yraen, who also got trained by Akasha. Along with Lyndra and Pendeh and Croyd and probably a bunch of other folk who went on to become more famous than he did.

I odn't remember much except for how he died - fighting a bunch of gith, bravely stupidly standing in front of a tent full of wounded guys. We'd been jumped by gith on a contract, and after chasing them off had been trying to keep this almost dead halfbreed called Vargr alive through the night. We were all pretty fucked up, so boy were we glad when Lt Akasha showed up to bail us out. Unfortunately, dawn broke to reveal: all the gith regrouped just over the next dune.

The funniest part was that the very first volley of spears killed the unconscious guy, who Akasha had just that second dragged out of the tent (I suspect she used him as a shield). Then things got hectic, and Akasha and Lyndra had to bug out... Leaving all the gith to switch focus to my dude. He lasted about... two rounds.

The last thing he saw was, "The lanky, yellow-grey gith starts destroying a small, desert-camouflaged tent." Whoops.

Aha, that was my firstest mission evah. Oh yah, we'll run up to Tuluk and back, no problem. HA! NOOB! I think at one point, when I went back and looked at my long, there were five spears being throw into our room at one PC, that poor half-elf guy, who didn't make it through the night. I was like...Oh shit, time to run. And I think we made it about three rooms before it was night and we couldn't see anything. At that point, Lyndra was furiouslyl contacting Akasha for help. Of course, then the shit hit the fan again in the morning, and even Akasha had to run away. I think, out of that whole group who went out for that trip, only three made it back. I thought it was awesome, and was hooked on this game (though it wasn't the first time that something wild had happened to that group of Bynners, and I was sucked in), but I felt terrible that I was such a NOOB, and I'd taken a group out that got massacred. I think it was about three RL weeks later (or perhaps even sooner) That she was eaten by spiders. And I was hopelessly hooked.

My first character (that I can remember) from back in the mid to late 90's was a Blackwing elf.  I hunted with another Blackwing for a while, then he had to go because he had class or was in the computer lab or something... so I walked all the way to Tuluk and I remember talking to a couple of folks (humans I think) and one of them thought it was kinda impressive that I walked all the way from the Blackwing camp.  Heh.  I don't remember what happened from there... there was always some sort of action taking place in Old Tuluk... I think I raided some estates and killed house guards or somesuch.  Wee.

The lean, shadowy man.
Brace wandered around Allanak trying to find water, asking for jobs, and sleeping in the streets. At the time I thought it was totally inappropriate, and now of course I know just how perfect it was. He was from out of town - a story I slapped together after a brief skim of the world docs, having something to do with slavery and near-death. Whatever.
Even though peak was only 20 people or so at the time, and I couldn't seem to 'get it,' I was having such an awesome time I kept coming back for more, until finally Lord Commander Therlias Borsail decided to hire him as a Wyvern recruit. Thus began months of logging in at the wrong time, and since nobody remembered to add me to the very primitive clan board we had at the time, I had no idea what to do for many of my logged hours, except spar the few other players half-active.
While Brace was missing the clan action, instead spending his time hanging out in Allanak supporting himself, Therlias was made Lord Governor of the silverwood estate in the north, and REALLY NEEDED SOME MUSCLE. Skip to when I finally get a successful contact on the Lord and he promptly hires the Byn to escort Brace north, knowing perfectly well how newbish I am and that I don't know the way to save my life.
Simply by outliving everyone else, Brace advanced through the ranks to Sergeant, where he really shined and I finally started to get it. You automatically become a badass by living that long. When Therlias took the unit to **** to **** and got **** by a ****, my power was out for the night and I couldn't log on. Brace outlived a slew of nobles and survived the real heat of the north/south conflict.
I don't remember the exact order of events in his life, and now that I try, I'm remembering so much, but some key events include: the rebels kidnapping Lady somebody's baby, Brace toying with the idea of leaving the unit, then saying 'fuck it' and maybe betraying the lot of 'em when whats-his-name was in charge, becoming Lieutenant of the White company, and performing executions for... I think it was Ihsahn, but only because I don't remember who else was around back then. Brace is in the Borsail docs somewhere.

For a first character, I really saw a lot of the world with that dude, and it was all so new and fresh I still get excited about what parts I can remember. Died to a blackmoon mul subdue on the north road. 'DROP PACK!'

I loved my 1st PC -- he lasted over a RL year.   I couldn't have created a more interesting background for him than what happened ICly between the ages of 14 and 23.

With in the first week of play my PC had insulted Borsail noble and Templar so much my poor PC was tortured (had his tongue split open like a snake's for "lying") and enslaved  -- someone wrote up a wonderful post about this taking place in the tavern.

During his slavery he got to listen in on some great plots, interact with a lot of political figures, and (just once) chew out and yell at a templar :D   (how many PCs can say that?)

My PC then became a slave of Oash.  He spent most of his days playing games with a bright-spirited Oash Lady (I think I learned to play every game known in Arm).  An Oash Lord bought my PC's first whore (a real PC whore) experience.  And my slave was eventually granted his name back; sent to the Tor Academy; and even freed so he could take a life-time oath as an Oashi guard.

And that is the story of

Jaytarn ~ The red-haired boy

My first character was very lame.  I thought Arm was mostly a big PvP arena with a few taverns.  I made my character, bought some stuff, then waited in an Allanaki alley for like 2 hours hoping someone would come by so I could mug them and take their loot.  It never happened, so I decided to take a walk to Tuluk and hope there were more people to fight there.  A band of gith intercepted me en route.

After reading the docs and forums, I kinda figured out more of what was going on and that it is not, in fact, a PvP combat game, and that it would probably be a good idea to join a clan.  My second character was named Orjek, "the burly, crooked-nosed human".  He managed to get a Borsail officer to sponsor his entry into the Byn, where he served under Sergeant Cirdon (until the elven sergeant's tragic death).  After he finished his time as a runner, the Borsail officer apparently defected to the north, and thus he was freed of his obligation to become a Wyvern.  Alas, after running around for a bit trying to figure out what to do with Orjek's life, I got a little bored and left for several months.  Upon my return I retired him to make a new character (it was a shame too, since he had AI agility and a year of Byn combat training under his belt).

Well, the first that lived any kind of long and I had any sort of idea was my third I believe.

Trystan, the lean, platinum-haired man I think, ranger/scavenger.

Anyways his background was that he was a tribal grebber from outside the city who had come to improve his life. He joined up with Tenneshi (the first in a long line of Tenneshi guards I made, each getting vaguely better at the game than the last. I had a coupla other chars in between, of course, though. ) Anyways he trains and does this stuff, and makes a friend with another guy. I had also been exploring the ruins of tuluk to scavenge stuff there and because I thought it was cool. Anyways I start yelling at this npc on the road to Tenneshi who won't go away and I kill her (my guy had decided he didn't really care for human life and wanted to make coins on his own.) His friend was like...dude we could make a living like this. So we end up exploring undertuluk and finding some cool stuff down there and were muggers by night, guardsman by day for a while.

Anyways, a soldier NPC saw my char leaving the gates and reported it, so he was kicked out of Tenneshi. He had also pissed off Sabin, a Lieutenant of Winrothol, who was a beast, and got invited into an apartment to make things up. KAH-WHACK.

Bwahah...Glorious. Everyone should get introduced to ARM this way. If they did, we wouldnt have so many..."Thats too harsh" whiners moping about.

Raleth - the portly, bearded man

Joined the Byn with his IG brother, Rame.

Was sparring with his sergeant, Henna, when she cracked his skull open with a mercy-on chop to the head, killing him.

So it goes.

Hehe, I remember this.

Adara was a dwarf...

My first PC, Sergeant Bernard AKA Beard the bearded young man (later one-eyed, bearded man) knew Adara. Those were some fun times!

Most of Bernard's good stories are still pretty IC, I think, but I think I'll delve a little here...

Bernard was a warrior/merc who grew up living and working with his dad, a small-time tailor. One day, daddy up and disappeared and after fruitlessly searching the corpse pile in Allanak for a while, Bernard figured he was on his own for good. Ended up getting recruited into the Byn by Fathi and played with a really, really good group of players. Now that I sit down to think about it, there's just too many fun stories with this character to bother going over in any detail. He was pretty long-lived, especially for a first character. I think about eight months RL time. And like I said before, the real good stories for this guy are still a little too sensitive to bring up on the GDB. But here's some fun ones...

I remember my first experience with the brawl code. Accidently used kick during a four-person brawl and the militia NPCs went apeshit! I just remember everyone yelling "Run, you fecking idiot!" or whatever and fleeing across 'Nak to the compound. That was all right after Bernard got dragged along by a fellow runner to murder some dude. Pretty intense night of play! I still smile when I think of Fatty trying to extort 'sid from Bernard in exchange for not telling the Sergeants that he'd pissed off the militia.

The time a drunk Kazi tried crossbowing a tiny scorpion was funny. He ended up getting stung and started tripping balls.

One time the Byn crew got stuck out in a fucking -huge- sandstorm. We emoted digging makeshift trenches and taking cover... Next thing I know my kank, Peart, goes flying up into the air! Strapped onto his back was a backpack with a cool gortok mask in it. I think that it had belonged to Fathi, so it was one of Bernard's treasures. Just when Beard was flipping out about losing that bit of memorabilia, Peart came falling out of the sky and landed nearby, knocked out cold. A had a good chuckle over that.

There was this one time the Byn crew was up in Tuluk. We had just gotten done with a big ass, successful hunt and Axel was treating us all to booze and spice at the Tooth. It wasn't long before he and Adara eloped to a side room, leaving the extremely drunk Kazi and Bernard with Lara. Well, the two shitcloaks were in a singing mood and Kazi sang something like "Dwarf lovin'!" to which I crooned "Short an' sweeeet!" Man, I could not stop laughing IRL. My roommate thought I was insane. (He still does.)

Mostly, it was just funny little stories like that. But he had some ridiculously intense times, too. Meh, can't go into those yet... He -was- a pretty much hopeless alcoholic, though, and budding spice addict. A constantly broke Byn Sarge. Lots of fun.

Bernard died a pretty mundane death to a beetle, and in my horrible noobishness, I had dragged a Byn Trooper down with me too (at least I'm pretty sure). So, sorry to that player!

Beard's definitely the character that got me hooked to this game. The Byn was just such a fun place to be at that time.

That mask has more history than you'd think, Zolt.

Originally produced for Chosen Lord Cammul's Copper War-era play "Man and Dog," the mask somehow found its way into the hands of a Guild archon some years later.

When my Bynner played a part in preventing the execution of a certain Guild member by informing certain parties that an execution was about to take place, the mask was gifted to her by a pair of Guild fellows that later became fairly notorious.

Holy crap, I had -no- clue of its history. I just thought it was pretty bad ass. It was actually passed off to Bernard by a gemmer he knew. And it got me a lot of "friendly fire" in gortok territory, heh. I remember I was on a trip with Axel once, right before Bernard got promoted to Sergeant. We were at some remote outpost. There was a gortok there that took a particular liking to the masked Bynner...

I love it when items get some good IG history, even if it's only for a brief time and known to only a few people. Thanks for the story, Fathi.

I know I've told this before.

My first character was this nothing pickpocket named Isooru.  She only lasted a RL week, but I remember two things.  One was her death, at the hands of a templar experimenting on her with a lethal substance.

The other was this encounter with Cross at the Gaj. He leered at her and asked "How much?"  She took offense and snapped "You don't have enough."  Then he offered her three small.  This, apparently, was enough.

My first memorable character went by the name of Kalos back in 1996, or maybe 97..anyway he was a ranger. ( I have no idea what my desc was since I've had many since then and no logs.) There were no other subguilds and I still think you could pick any class to play since there was no karma then.

He used to go outside of Tuluk and hunt creatures, sell hides and stuff for coins. Ran into a young fellow by the name of Raknar who wanted to learn the ways of the blade. Kalos became his mentor and would practice with him and take him out hunting. Well Kalos was travelling the north road, coming back from Luir's (The old Luir's with the corral right outside the tavern). He was attacked by some NPC Blackmoon. Killed one and got a bone broadsword before running from the rest. ( For some reason I OOC thought that this was an uber weapon cause it came from badass NPC's...too many hack-n-slash muds before arm hehe) Anyway I went to the tavern in Tuluk, was having a drink at the bar when I felt a tugging. I found that my new sword was now gone and the thief ran out into the streets. She actually made herself known to me before doing so.

Some how, some time later I got into an arguement with a Ember-eyed Mul. I will never forget this guy. I have no idea what the arguement was about, but he threatened me with violence so I told him if he didnt get away from me I would make a great looking sword with one of his eyes set into the base of my hilt. This set him into a rage, along with his other friends he had with him. Kalos shrugged it off and left them, heading out the gate to the north road. A female who Kalos had met some time before came along and started talking to him. He told her the story about the arguement and she told him to get off the road and go just south one room. So now we were both one west and one south of the gate talking. She was trying to make Kalos feel better, then all of a sudden attacks him. Then from out of nowhere that Ember-eyed Mul attacks him and some others come along to help him. Kalos gets away and runs south and and east around Tuluk. I believe there was an interior section between the outer wall and the inner wall then( Was Old Tuluk before the attack ). Anyway he runs and runs. Has to rest. Is getting contacted and wayed by the Mul about how he is tracking him down by the blood splatter and will find him. Kalos got away some how and left for Luir's when he got the chance.

About a RL week later Raknar is looking for him so Kalos decides to go back to Tuluk and meet up with him. Along the north road at the long pass before the Dol-Takar road Kalos runs into a dwarf that is friends with the Mul. This dwarf tries to raid Kalos and tells him to drop his weapons and other items. Kalos, knowing he will just be killed anyway, tells this dwarf to drop his instead. Of course the dwarf gets angry and attacks Kalos. Well, from all the hunting, Kalos had truly become a good fighter because he put a huge ass whooping on this dwarf and he had to flee. I believe Kalos went after him and the dwarf was exhausted and asked to be spared. Being the nice guy he was, he told the dwarf never to attack him again or he would be killed.

So Kalos meets up with Raknar. Now Raknar had become a good fighter as well. The both of them travel to Allanak with Raknar leading the way since Kalos had never been there. We fought gith along the way and finally come to the city. During his travels Kalos meet a woman who he kinda liked. ( Think her desc was the emerald-eyed woman) Well there was some big celebration in Allanak, no idea what for. Raknar and Kalos and the emerald-eyed chick all get drunk right in Meleths circle with all the rest of the PC's. There were casks all over and people telling stories and stuff happening. Then some templar had to show off how great he was and cast some spell that made the emerald-eyed woman disappear from right beside me. The templar thought it was funny and all those with him all had a good laugh. Kalos did not find this funny. He wayed the woman and found she was somewhere in the tablelands. She told him what she saw around her. Kalos and Raknar left the city and went into the tablelands to search for her. Kalos had only been there once before. We spent an hour or so looking until we finally found her. Dont remember what happened after that, but we didnt goto 'Nak.

Some time went on and Raknar was in talks with some fellows with white cloaks with blood stains on them. We were going to join up with them, but Kalos went hunting back up near Tuluk one day in the Grey Forest. He was off his Inix fighting a vestric when a wild halfling hunter came along. He got attacked and had to flee. Then he tried to see where the Inix was, but got followed and attacked again..had to flee again. Finally he could not see the Inix and had a halfling hunter npc tracking him down. Kalos walked around in a large circle trying to find the Inix...then he saw it. It was two rooms away, but now he was exhausted. In came the halfling and that was the end of Kalos...with his Inix two rooms away and no movement points left. :( Was a good ride though.l

Heh, ironic that your name is "wildhalfling"...

I remember playing with that crazy ember-eyed mul with a few characters... I think one of my characters was a friend of his and another was an enemy.  Heck, one of my characters may have even been friends with Kalos... too long ago to remember, but that name and Raknar sounds familiar.  Good times.

A blackwing warrior, who was in on the hunt for Vis and Wolf in the far western Tablelands...his first day out, he left the camp (you could just go a direction to leave, but had to enter to get back in) and I, being new, had no idea how to get back in.  I wandered until I found a road, then followed the road, very thirsty and having some issues.  I made it to Tuluk and was helped in getting some water and figured out I was -really- lost.  Because of who c, one of my family found my mind, tracked me down and basically kicked me in the ass over and over until I made it home.  So I figured out some what I was doing, got to help hunt for the previously mentioned pair, and eventually made my way back to Tuluk...where an elvish templar had her giants subdue me so she could test out her very awesome new crossbow.  Blam.

Not exactly what hooked me, but it made me annoyed enough to want to try again.

She wasn't the one who told a character of mine in the Gaj that she was "a ranger, and I speak many languages, so you could also say I'm a bit of a linguist," was she? And then just got up and tried to have a chill-out conversation with a Tor warlord?

No offense if it was, but that had me laughing pretty hard.

Post by: Attana on October 15, 2008, 04:33:46 AM
First character ever was Attana (hense the GDB name).

Created with every intention to join the Byn, had a nice main description and nice short decription (little did I know it belonged to the bartender in Storm), the background story I would have to say was pretty generic.  Took the start up 'sid and walked around trying to find the bazaar for what seemed like FOREVER.  Finally found it, got her geared out in some cheapo shit, and then went back to the Gaj to sit and wait.  Waited for ... what seemed like years until I finally met up with Sergeant Rame.  Paid the fee and here starts the beginning of a VERY  interesting and entertaining two months.

Met up with Trooper Raja (I think is the spelling) and Trooper Oolda, though I do believe they were runners, until SHORTLY after I joined up.  Went on a bunch of contracts, nothing terribly exciting, but was definitely exciting to a newbie going out of the gates for the first time ever.  Eventually met up with Hawkeye, whom Oolda ended up leaving the Byn for.. and Attana being her best friend decided to leave to.  This was maybe right before she would have became Trooper.  Went around with Oolda and Hawkeye to see the world.  Luirs was quite an experience... we even went up into the Grey Forest, where Oolda and Attana were attacked by a halfling.  Somehow we both managed to live through that experience (thank you Oolda and your very badass warrior skills).  Though it was that experience, that fueled her wish to go back to the Byn and her old Sergeant, that and how she completely and utterly missed all her friends.

Went back to 'Nak, talked to Sergeant Rame and got sponsored back into the Byn.  This time around I brought my oocly best friend in with me, who happened to also be a newbie and made up my characters sister.  These two wrecked havoc on the Byn, as far as creating chaos on help the cook duty day went.  I can remember slipping along a piece of rotted food on the floor and sliding to a crash into shelves to knock the dishes to tumble to the floor.  Multiple times.  She then got into a relationship with Seroth, another runner, which was rocky.  That relationship ended and him and her sister ended up hooking up behind her back.  Then she ended up having sexual relations with multiple other people, back alley meetings and the like.  As I recall she ended up falling in love with a Trooper, whom she affectionately called Raja, I believe.

But... the good and happy times weren't to last.  Shortly before she would have made Trooper for the Byn, we got contracted to go out to "count gith heads in the flats" by a Templar and some Tor or Borsail.. or both.  After a long and grueling ride, with invisible flying people, we ended up north somewhere (I was a newbie, every excursion out of the gates at that time was.. 'somewhere in BFE').  Some Tuluki ended up riding in to stop us from doing something (us Bynners only knew we were supposed to count gith heads) and from there it was combat spam galore.  We got flung out of the room, I went charging back in to help out my fellow bynners, I didn't see much past the combat spam, but was just assisting my bynners, until  noticed no one on them.  Then.. with completely bravery, I decided to help out by attacking a northerner, someone who hadn't been in our group.  I remember having her shout out that she needed help, and pretty soon she was fighting Henna (I believe), and two half-giant soldiers (how that happened I don't know).  Then...

BEEEEEEEP *mantis head*

I cried for three real life hours before finally calming down, I'd been so attached to her, and through her I found a love for the game.  I created a new character that night, and went on to love her, and the game even MORE.  Though, I'm still not at liberty to discuss her, otherwise I would have post her up on here too.  Maybe in a couple months, I think it'd be fine.  - Through my second character I also got to learn that two people out of the Bynner group that had gone up on that mission had survived, Rajar being one, and Seroth the other.  I also learned that Rajar had been intending to ask my character to be his mate.  When I learned that, I started crying again.

All of you in that Bynner unit under Sergeant Rame, you made my newbie experience the BEST one ever, especially Rame, Rajar and Seroth.

Like countless other female players my first PC wound up being an aide and having way too much mudsex. I think it's some kind of peculiar initiation ritual for this game.

Oh the memories...

My first character I hardly remember, but the second was an aide to a certain Borsail noble who everyone hated. He treated everyone horribly, being very good at playing the noble, and I was so new...

Prior to meeting this Borsail I had been wandering around in the bazaar and found this nice sword. One with a jade in the hilt. I promptly picked it up and went to try to sell it in the Salaar tent. The NPC of course started yelling 'thief thief' or some such thing and I was promptly subdued by soldiers and carried off to the jail. Later a Templar dragged me out into a room with some half-elf or elf magicker was. I watched as he put the magicker to death, and it frightened me, newb that I was. After some talk the templar let me go, though I had to come up with some money for him later.

After that I ran into the Borsail, and was very motivated to be hired. I was terrified of the templar. Well, miserable as she was, my character stayed with her noble. Occasionally he'd send her outside of the city, just a little way to forage for stones I think mostly because I was online more than he. One day while foraging a man on a yellow kank stopped me and we talked. It was the Sandman, and he wanted to pay me to spy on the Borsail for him. I told him no (hey, I was such a noob!) and when he made a move toward me, I ran for the city. I stopped just inside the gates thinking I was safe with the guards there. Didn't even see him before that crafty old Sandman shot me with a poisoned arrow.

I survived that, and told the Borsail about my little adventure and was promptly told off by my noble for being so stupid and saying no. :D Got to love that. I could have acted as a double agent, you see.

Later I did indeed wind up mudsexing the character. And in fact that was our downfall. We were in the process of disrobing and this noble was a very good roleplayer, so everything wound up on the floor after he locked the door. And suddenly, this cloaked man seemed to materialize out of nowhere and proceeded to kill my noble. I tried to rescue, but failed, if I remember right. In the end the noble was killed and there was a pause while the assassin waited to see what I'd do.

I screamed at the top of my lungs that there'd been a murder while attacking the assassin. I knew I had no chance against him. I think I thought at the time that I'd probably have been killed anyway by the Borsail for failing mine. Sometime later after I got the game I wonder if I couldn't have cut a deal with the assassin and run off. Probably not. Anyway my character died a short time after her Borsail.

Her adventure was the one that hooked me, right from the templar on. I was thinking "How harsh this place is!" but I was having fun.

I have some, as I later encountered the Sandman with another character. But that is a story for another day, in another thread I think.

Besides, I'm not sure enough about ic events (I've been away from Arm for nearly 4 years, I just came back today) to know what stories I can tell and which I cannot.

I'm pretty certain I was your sarge, and was really callous to the other runners who were worried if you still alive or not.

newb runners - "We should go save him!"

grizzled sarge (me) "Shut up, probably dead anyway."

think "More sid for me!"

Haha, wow, I just noticed this, several months late.

I do hope you were his Sarge, because that's always one of my favorite stories to tell.  And I actually don't think he was quite dead yet--there might've been some sort of a creature at the bottom that finished him off.  Or maybe that was another of my characters that ran off the Shield Wall.

I mean, there's been so many.

Holy shit.

"The old, grey man."  No, wait, I didn't use a comma.  The old grey man.

I was a bynner, ex caravan guide, who got tired of the road and decided to settle down in Allanak.  Unfortunately, some wicked, evil, horriblific sharpears stole all my cashes, and I had to turn to selling my body to survive.  After some honest, John McCain straight-talk-express shit to the Sargeant known as Slim, I talked my way into giving 85 coins and a promise of paying back the remaining 215 within the next two years of service.

I got picked up, they strapped some armor on me, and then I began to get piss pounded by runner after runner after runner until the troopers set in.  Lost conciousness a few times, but after a while, I became a hardass.  Aint that the story of the Byn?

There was this kid Pepper, and a skinny guy named... shit, something.  Rominus?  That's not it, but it was close.  Remembered that name for years, and now I can't, heh.  Anyway.  Pepper, Brekkin, the skinny dude, Daenin, and good old Sujaal.  We were a force.  Eventually Pepper croaked, as Bynners do, and my PC freaked out for a few days because he'd grown close.

Eventually my character got a very lucrative offer from the Rominus... damn I wish I could remember his name!  Guy.  He said he was part of "House Serpens" and he wanted me to take a bodyguarding offer for this rich merchant woman he knew.  He said he'd pay my contract out with the Byn, as well as hook me up with the job, which would pay almost a large a month, and on top of all that, he'd give me five small a month to keep him 'in the know' on what is happening with her.  Could you refuse that?  I think not.

So I didn't.

Sujaal, well, he was kinda pissed, but he understood.  I mean, afterall, this merchant woman owned her own restaurant.  Sujaal wanted me as Sargeant, and told me so, said I could have the Broken Swords as my unit, but it still wasn't enough riches.  I didn't want to galavant and risk doom, I wanted to be rich and comfortable and risk doom.  So I took the bodyguarding job.

I had my first official run in with a noble with that character, a noble who I still haven't seen topped for style and authenticity.  Maybe you've heard of him, his name was Vedelarin.  He was apparently some big shot.  Had about thirty pleasure slaves all writhing around this large meeting area as we discussed business, me, this merchant, and some dude with scars all over who's name as well escapes me, but he was one of the most baddest ass killers I've run into.  Oh yeah, Kento.

At one point, my PC overheard someone trash talking his merchant in the Arena.  He gave a fair warning to the guy to shut up.  Guy didn't shut up.  Stood up and said "What are you gonna do about it, old man?"  I stood up, I told him what I was going to do about it.  I told him I was going to throw him over the edge of the Arena.

So I did.  Sadiv cut his finger off, then his eye out, then killed him for being offensive in the eyes of the HighLord.

Eventually, as all good stories end, I got drunk in a bar with my friend Locklo, and started trash talking this elf.  I was going to teach the elf a lesson, so I took my axes off of my belt, handed them to Locklo, and laid into the guy with a right hook.  Did I mention this was before brawl code?

I actually didn't die.  Got hauled off.  As I was being dragged down the street, the elf caught up to me, and since I was held, it wasn't too hard for him to slit my throat for about 40 damage.  DING.

Working for Pearl was one of the best experiences I've ever had in Zalanthas.  Took me about two RL years to figure out what the fuck "House Serpens" actually was.

You may be thinking of a different Pearl, there have been a few, but the one I am thinking of actually did primarily found her own House, known as House Terash.  The skinny guy, who's name I remembered last night during a stupor, and then promptly forgot again in the hangover haze of the morning, was from a different organization.

There was a lot of politicking and maneuvering and Templary Jockeying that took place to get House Terash up and rolling, but if you ever want to hang out at the place where more deals than you can shake a stick at were formed and broken, hit the Silver Ginka.  That's Pearl's old restaurant.  The shit that went down there... wow.  To be a kankfly on those walls.

Um, no, from my understanding that is NOT the same mask. There are several of those. Kadius sells them. :-p

My first character was a pickpocket named Dreel.

I had no idea what I was doing. I met a certain Kadian named Sharlo at the bar and talked. He offered me a job as a hunter. I was still new. I remember being told to do 100 push-ups and emoting them out one at a time.

I then remember being transfered north and on a wagon. There was a half-giant on there and while we were riding he emoted pissing out of the back.

I remember buying spice and being all excited about it. And wasted all my noob money on it. Going out on my first hunt and bagging a hawk.

And then I stored because I got bored and no one was around to play.

First character started off in 'Nak. Was too scared to leave the bar for a few RL hours. Just hung around, listening to people talk. Reading up on the commands and teaching myself on another screen.

But, yeah. First character's name is beyond my memory - But I'm pretty sure he was a thief/thug - Just because it seemed like the "cool" thing and from what I read up on Zalanthas, I figured a pickpocket would be a good starting class. Oh was I wrong.

I didn't even know about stats - Which is funny. Lol.

Well, I ended up joining the Byn because I was sweet-talked into the not-so-humble life of a down'n dirty mercenary. Went through training as the sparring dummy. Got my ass handled to me and I was just so amazed at how awesome it was to be a loser. Kind've depressing, too, but I got over it. Character was one of those village boys from around 'Nak who had come to the city hoping to hit it big. Something non-descript because I wasn't familiar with the life-style, etc., so I could always just play ignorance at something I didn't know.

Said-character ended up getting on his first kank for a mission. Kank wouldn't move so I decided to >kick kank. Wow was that a bad idea. Suddenly, I'm tossed off it's back -- Going from nice master to tasty treat. The other Bynners are just 'wtf?' as a soldier runs in and begins to lay waste to the kank while it munches down on my character's face. I spam fled (after looking it up in the help files, lol) and returned, giving some half-ass story that the kank just went wild on me.

Went out obsidian mining. Got hopelessly lost. I feel stupid, looking back, because if I had just used common sense and stayed calm - I could've just walked back. :P

But, yeah. Got all dramatic and 'Way'd all the Bynners giving some heart-felt apology about my demise. They find me come dawn and I feel like the dumbest guy in the world.

Get back to the Byn - Do some training - Come night, I want to explore. Accidentally find myself in the 'rinth. A certain welcoming committe NPC greets me with a sound knock on the nogging, which then provokes me to spam flee - Right down a certain hole.

I Way all my superiors, again, giving ANOTHER heart-felt apology for my demise. I suddenly realize I can climb, and head back AFTER I've already sent out my "i'm gonna die" Way to everyone.

I get back - They ask me if I want to stay in the Byn - I say yes and promptly recieve my punshiment whippings. Was hardcore. We train some. I'm feeling really good about Arm. Go to the mess, the prompt comes up "Your thirsty" and I'm, like, 'Hay, guys! ahm thirsty!'. I look at one of the tables. See a bottle. Get the bottle. Spam drink the bottle. Commence vomiting.

My sarge looks at me and everyone's just watching me saying, 'Are you okay?' and I'm saying, "Sure, sure - Fine fi-" *vomits* Then begins the process of everyone running around, screaming for me to follow them. I'm seriously saying, "No, don't worry - I'll be fine". I go sit in the latrines. Throw up a few times and realize it's not ending. So then I start following my sarge around and as we're running down the road, I start dry-heaving.

*laugh*  On the whole "kick" error....

I first played and didn't have any idea that kick was a command that started battle.

I was in a pit, (Blackwing encampment) and I think my character was drunk out of her mind... another character was there, I think he was just as drunk (we both -fell- into the pit)... he had emoted being a little to fresh with me, I can't remember what he did exactly, but I typed "kick" him...  and killed him!  I thought it was a social!

Luckily our imms new I was totally new to the mud and took mercy on me.
I felt pretty stupid. ;)

Foolishly played as an elf as my first character, wondering why I was disliked. He was a pickpocket physician. Rolled exceptional agility and poor everything else. Met some people in the Gaj who were quite friendly to an elf. They were trying to set up a multi-race guild. Kallie was the woman there, and some big fella who lent me his cloak. Fumbled around with emotes and conversation. He was the unluckiest character ever, and kept falling and getting knocked out every time. He wandered around in the 'rinth and got attacked by a vampire or something who made me work for him, spying on southerners. I fell down the well then, and my torch died. I died of hunger and thirst. Krathdamnit.

I chose pickpocket for some reason, and was hanging around the Gaj for a while trying to figure out the emote system. A militia man came in and my gal gave him a stink of trouble (for whatever reason) and me, not quite understanding the social implications of telling a militia man to basically screw off--got into some trouble. Thankfully, as I tactically noticed even while still a novice, he had to leave and couldn't go about arresting my gal. So then after that I hung around, then got bored and decided to see what was outside the gates. I wandered down the road for a while until my poor stupid gal came across a cloaked figure riding a sunback (or something like that I think.) I need codedly "looked" at him. He asked why my gal was out in the desert with no mount, and then asked (very politely) for her sid. She shook her head at him, knowing that she couldn't really outrun him. He threatened her, then came across an "idea". He subdued her and threw her across his sunback and then brought her to the shield wall, and threatened to push her off if she didn't give up the goods.

After denying him still (I have no idea why I was doing this,) he came across another "good idea" and knocked him gal out with a club. I felt the tug of all of my gal's belongings being stripped of her, and woke up sometime later after being dumped at the city gates carelessly. I had to beg people in the Gaj for some food/water before she died--some lady eventually ended up offering my gal a servanting job cleaning up some rooms with a broom in her apartment or estate, (I can't rightly remember, and couldn't tell the difference at the time anyway.) Using my awesome pickpocketing skrills, I showed off my ability to sneakily nab some sid from my new employer. I think I didn't play for a really long time after this, for whatever reason, and ended up forgetting the account information completely and changing e-mails so that I couldn't even access it if I wanted to. This was like... 3-4 years ago.

I spent 2 years off then came back last year.

p.s. cloaked highway robber guy, thanks. That story was why I came back!

The first few characters didn't get me hooked, but my sixth, Halus, did. The slim, dark-haired man of the Kuraci Fist. He did things with his supremely-cool superiors, and got to ride on a silt skimmer and even got to try to stab a silt horror. IIRC he was going to probably get promoted to the second rank after the trip was over, or something, but alas, he never made it back to shore. Damn silt horror.

I actually don't remember my first character's name! It was a few years back. I'd been a MUSHer/MUXer for a long time prior, but because I was a big Dark Sun fan, I decided to give Armageddon a try.

I recall that he was a Gemmed Vivaduan. As I was new to the game, I picked a fairly bland concept and personality, which was ultimately my reason for storing him. He was eventually employed by Oash to provide water. Though the character wasn't exactly my best work, I learned a lot about the game and had the pleasure of acquainting myself with a number of wonderful players.

My first Armageddon character was a level 20 Mage named Magius.  He was the leader of the Archmagi, the rival clan to the Doomsbringer clan.  I remember having Quadyana's necklace, Balzed Star weapons, and defeating the Paladin that stood guard at the Lich's gate by ordering the lizard drawing our wagon to tank the paladin and heal itself, since I discovered it had been given a cleric class.

The first character that I can distinctly recall playing after the changes to names, sdescs, tells, etc...was a dwarven spice merchant named Grymm.  He had a wagon with a secret cargo room that he used to smuggle spice into Allanak to sell.  He would then go to the potion merchant, buy 75 healing potions for about 50,000 'sid and then kill the shop keeper and take his coins back.  There were a few cohorts that palled around with me at the time, but one of them, a Vivaduan named Monsoon, was logged in one day guarding my wagon in Luir's when a Kuraci showed up named Daedheldin.

Daedheldin attacked him, to which Monsoon responded, "Why are you attacking me!?"  Deadheldin responded, "Because I'm taking your wagon."  Monsoon shouted, "It's not my wagon!" and then was summarily dispatched.  The Kuraci then broke into the wagon and piloted it south out of Luir's and then ran it straight into the gulch, where it sat for many RL years home to gith, halflings, wayward mounts, fallen Byn parties, and, hopefully, countless fun adventures.

Once upon a time, about a year ago, I had just gotten into the groove of Armageddon and decided to play yet another ranger/house servant, as was my trend back then. I mostly sat in the Bard's Barrel when it was the place to be, and I very quickly came onto some serious rumors. Being the good citizen I was, I offered my services to a certain Lady Tor and she quickly picked me up as her spy in the city, which of course had me all excited. So, I continued about my business, picking up rumors about House Tor, which were very numerous back then (back when rumors were actually spread as liberally), and becoming the idolized young spy for this noblewoman.

One day, some man begins to whine about hating Lady Tor and called her a bully. I discreetly got his name and found my employer's mind. She later reprimanded him in private, I assume, and made him a laughing stock. Obviously, I wasn't discreet enough because he found out it was me who did it, and so then he stared me down whenever he could. I would instead sit at a different table with my nice listen skill and eavesdrop on him, knowing more juicy rumors were to come because he was upset.

So, out of all things, he pays this Tuluki assassin right there at the bar to kill me. I was obviously shocked, but surprised I was hated enough for that. Being a ranger, I was able to fight off this newbie assassin with ease when he finally attacked me in an alley that night (a position I purposefully placed myself in to make his job a bit more fun while it lasted). This dude is obviously really, really upset now that all of this has happened, so I have Lady Tor come down and she really begins to chew him out. Then, all of a sudden, he lashed out at her and was made into mincemeat by her guards within seconds.

Now, I'll admit that Lady Tor was a bit skimpy about paying me, so I quickly took all the food off his body because I was famished, and she had her guards haul his corpse away so she could have it beheaded outside, I guess.

My next mission was to find a certain fort of certain creatures that Lady Tor suspected was in or near the city. Within a few RL days, I had located the source of the creatures and was able to relay it to Lady Tor. However, while down there, I caught the plague, and so she didn't want to get near me until I was better. So then I had to go beg a local Vivaduan to heal me so that I could get paid and get food so I wouldn't die. It took a lot of begging, and I got healed, but sadly I withered away from starvation before I was able to next meet her.

To the players of this certain Lady Tor and the man at the Bard's Barrel: thanks for getting me hooked (I think)! ;)

This wasn't my first character, my memory isn't that good, but this is the one that got me hooked on the game.

He was a ranger, a long time before subguilds were in Armageddon, and was created after responding to an announcement from a player that they would like to find an apprentice for their experienced ranger in Red Storm. I wandered around the village for awhile after creation, got myself a kank to ride and some supplies and a weapon but the shopping options were limited. Then I met my new master, the flower-tattooed mul, and after a drink in the tavern he took me out for my first lesson in the wilderness. That lesson was awesome, a few tips on desert survival, pointing to a plant and explaining that you could sometimes find one in this area and here is how you can use it, this creature is good to hunt and eat, that creature over there thinks you are good to hunt and eat. Most importantly, never touch and dead bodies you find (I'm sure those old enough and had wilderness characters back then will remember why!)

We had a few good lessons like that, and it is why I picked the name I did when the account system was introduced to Armageddon and why I picked Bushranger as my GDB name. I think it is always why Red Storm is my favourite settlement in game, and why various rangers or wilderness characters are my most common. It was also the only time I tried to contact flower and got in contact with a plant!

And the end? Well shopping wasn't great in Red Storm then, quite limited options, so I went to Allanak to sell some things we had gathered and purchase some supplies. Flower couldn't come because he was a Mul, so it was just me and what do you know, I just had to touch that dead body I found, didn't I!

*BEEP*

Okay, so I've had like, six accounts, because I keep hating armageddon, and coming back without a clue as to what my SN/PW was. But, I still remember my first char.

The black-haired, elven youth.
Seraphina, the assassin/scavenger

She was raised in the 'rinth, and was orphaned at a young age. She made her living killing sleeping, or sick, people, and selling their things, often going back to kill the people she stole from. When I started playing her, I read little on the elven roleplay docs, and I decided, feck it, I'm leaving the rinth to explore. I quickly learned it was easier to stay alive, if I just sat in the Gaj all day. (shame) After talking to many, many pcs, and learning most of the syntax, I wandered off again, to see if I could find a magicker to make me a magic item that would let me disappear. Well, I happened across an Oash noble (heh, didn't even notice the silks) and they decided to take me to their compound. I was quickly met with a blow to the head, in which I began running around the compound screaming, and then was subdued and dragged into the back, where a magicker, and a pscionisct, and some noble's aide, or something, began interrogating me, and mind-raping me. I eventually told them everything I know, and then I was sucked dry.
Mantis head, then I was hooked.

I hope I've gotten a lot better, though she was one of my favorite chars. I'll always remember a well-dressed human Kadian who suggested I come with her, who I bitterly shrugged off. (thank you for trying)

First Charactor: was your classic warrior, merc who joined the Byn.

Unfortunately oober noob AJM thought since he trained everyday with the 'kill' command, he should use it in the local tavern as well ...... I know now.

Nothing like 3 half giant guard beating down on you to tell you, you used the wrong syntax.

Heh. City ranger ;)

What's wrong with city rangers?!!!  You wound me, sir.

Anyhow, my "first" character was a half-giant back before Karma. I wandered around, found my way into a house, started looting it, got caught by a templar, and led him on a merry chase around the outer road of Allanak. I had a few more disaster characters after that and then didn't play again until last summer.

The one that got me hooked... well there was a couple. But the FIRST character I played was a ranger/archer and I was tooling around Tuluk not really understanding MUDs and such.
I was also trying to learn the syntax, so I noched an arrow and fired one off at a kadian merchant in a shop - you know, for practice and learning. IMMEDIATELY the guard there was screaming and I was quite shocked... thinking "Holy cow, this is a PLAYER!"
After a little bit of a talkin-to I learned a little about the game and I was on my merry way.

My first character, was around atleast...... 3-4 years ago. He was Delcarion, a city elf warrior. Who at first glimpse of game play, was shouting at a merchant in human slang for not selling something to him at what he deemed, was a fair price. I believe "mother fucker, and pig, and water" were all involved in the verbal assassination.

Anyways, he somehow got involved with this awesome elven character, named Mektok, who I must thank for hooking me on the game. One day, mektok disappeared, and never resurfaced, so, me a newbie, who had been with this wickedly badass outlaw, wandered over to Luirs, and got a job as a member of the Kuraci Fist under Segeant Pendeh. I couldn't have asked for two better people to learn the game under, Mektok and Pendeh, fuck yeah. Anyways, Pendeh retired, and then the fist got boring, so, being a newbie, i retired my uber 15 day elf warrior.

Pretty sure the player still plays and will remember this, but way back when with my first character who was a human ranger went wondering after my buddy IG begged me to not go exploring outside Tuluk without him. Of course, my little PC said yes and then got bored not too long after(bad OOC moment because I had come from a PK hack-n-slash, bad things and thank Arm Gods most of that is gone) down the North Road which he promptly met some half-giant. Now, in my experience with previous MUDs, them never having been roleplay intensive, race met nothing so my seemingly crazed fearless of this half-giant decides to enact justice because the half-giant kept blabbering that he had killed his best friend. Eye for an eye, right? It was going great, wounds, solids all over the place UNTIL he drew this massive club; yes, that was the true pimp stick and that first PC was that half-giant's bitch.

Wickedness.

Started out somewhere in 1998 or 1999? - first character was an independant merchant - the tall, dark, handsome man - I was later told by a staff member that that was the lamest sdesc they had seen in a while ;)

Anyways, life was exciting during those times. My first hour into the game, I politely asked another player in both IC and OOC - to show me around the city. The person showed me around Allanak, and then dropped me back to the Gaj. The other PCs in the gaj enlightened me that I had just asked a nobleman to give me a tour of the city, as if he was a commoner! I think he was Lord Rendias Borsail if I'm not too mistaken, or Lord Miedyan Oash possibly.

Got recruited by Kurac, and stationed in Allanak, with a kick-ass courier wagon. Of course, needless to mention that the Highlord had banned all spice in Allanak - so my PC was soon subjected to routine strip searches courtesy of the warm and friendly (and bald) Lady Templar Tarian Tor. That was fun!

Worked the spice compacting machine in Red Storm, smuggled spice into the Mantis, made tons of cash in the contraband trade. Basically lived his life out as a front-man for Kurac in Allanak, engaged in none of the uber-sneaky stuff! Times were good in Allanak, Tuluk had just been destroyed, and the Trader's Inn was THE place to be in!

Later on, he went on to have the Golden Nugget built atop the Bard's Barrel - and since he didnt have the funds to cover the costs himself, he ended up borrowing sid from Kurac, some more from Lord Kojiro No Fale, and also had some side-deal with Dorilys and Taravin in the Barrel itself. At some point, all the entities involved, were pissed off at him, for making them think they were the sole investors in the venture :)

Died an ignoble death soon afterwards - but hells yeah, it was fun while it lasted!

Edited to add : I was also told I used too many exclamation marks in my speech.....

My first memorable Arm character was Illanar - the ash-haired young man, or something to that effect.

I made Illanar after discovering the Atrium, and so naturally I made a beeline and had him join there.  He didn't manage to learn a whole lot, but eventually Lady Kavinny Borsail (*hugs!*) decided to take him under her wing, and he became her painfully stupid and oversexed aide.
Illanar used to hang around Lord Templar Kishime, pester him constantly without any point, and then run to Kavinny whining when Kishime would tell him off.
In fact, one time Illanar saw Kishime daydreaming at a table in the Barrel.  Illanar approached Kishime (just to say hello for politeness' sake), and Kishime just waved his hand and told Illanar to go away.  Illanar told this to Kavinny as a possible turn-around in his relationship with the notorious Templar.  Or in Illanar's own words - "He wasn't nasty to me this time!".
Illanar had some strange adventures.  I don't quite remembered what happened, but I think someone in the Atrium wanted Illanar killed, so they had an assassin follow Illanar around.  Illanar took a detour through a dark alley, and the assassin attacked.  Illanar managed to run away, though, and then confront the assassin about this.  The assassin actually managed to convince Illanar that he was SAVING him from another assassin going after his life.  Illanar actually bought that bullshit.  (Kudos, whoever that was).

Eventually, some Whiran decided to take on Borsail, and kidnapped Illanar telling him to steal some Borsail keys or be killed.  Illanar thought this over and decided on the most logical course of action.  That course of action being, of course, running to Tuluk for asylum.  While still wearing his Borsail garb.
He was also pretty open about how he ran away because of that vicious Whiran, and would contact Kavinny regularly to check up on her and generally let her know how he was doing.
After a few weeks where he made a living cooking meat for hunters or baking travel cakes, Eunoli showed up and gave Illanar a choice - he can either willingly become her slave, or he can keep trying his luck as a freelance cook, except she'd publicly make it outlawed for anyone to deal with him.
So yeah, he took the slavery.  Now, Illanar's only true speciality was his knowledge of cooking.  He was an excellent cook.  Eunoli, however, would drink ONLY water and eat ONLY stale bread.  They weren't a very good match, and Illanar made sure to tell this to Kavinny over the Way at least five times a week.
Eventually Illanar ended up in the Tuluki prisons, being taught a very interesting lesson about Eunoli and having a Jihaen break his neck with a staff.  It was a really awesome death really; he begged like a little bitch.

Also - Landra, I'm really sorry your first PC was so lame.  I should have done things differently. :(

I'm so jealous of some of you guys' memorable stories. I think my first character was a woodsman that cut logs for Tuluk.

From what I remember, though, those logs were eventually used during the Copper War. Not entirely sure on that, but it made me fee a -lot- better when I heard that, because I realized "Hey, I may have died to a halfling in a sandstorm, but damnit. I helped Tuluk win the war."

As a Zalanthan history major, I must point something out here.

Quote1567 (Year 27 Age 21)
Tuluki forces capture a source of copper - an extremely rare and valuable resource - deep within the Red Desert. Very soon an army is sent from Allanak, led by Templar Malenthis Jal the Red, to try and wrestle control of the mine from them, and a two-month long conflict erupts, known as the Copper War. The war ends with both sides claiming victory as the Tuluki force, led by Templars Radic Lyksae, Eunoli Winrothol and Felysia Kassigarh, withdraws from the desert after having mostly spent the vein. The Allanaki army quickly seizes control over what is left and establishes a small camp at the location.

And:  http://www.zalanthas.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20094
QuoteThe 159th day of the Descending Sun, Year 28 of the 21st Age

After almost two months of fighting, the Red Desert War has apparently come to an end. Both sides have claimed victory, the reasons and particulars dependent on which city they're told in.

In Allanak a tired, dirty army arrived late in the morning and Lord Malenthis Jal was heard giving a victory speech on Melenth's Circle. Only those who attended know what was said for certain, but the word spreading through the city is that the Tuluki army finally lost morale and broke rank, fleeing like cowards back to their city.

A different tale is told in Tuluk. Bards sings ballads about His Gloriousness' Army marching proudly back to Tuluk with Knigh Templar Radic, accompanied by High Templar Eunoli and Faithful Lady Felysia, at the head. Eunoli supposedly gave a speech in front of the Sanctuary, but only those who attended know what was said for certain. The common story told throughout the city, though, was that the Tuluki army soundly defeated the barbarians from the south, routing them on the field and sending them home with their tails between their legs.

In both cities, celebrations are being held and countless soldiers - veterans of the Red Desert War - get drunk and spin their stories in taverns for anyone who will listen.

Valanus the  Byn Trooper.

This guy was the sheeeit. He was offered sergeant's stripes but turned them down. He rode with Brok and Brekkin and loved both their dwarven asses like no one else. It was wonderful fun and I still remember the crushing heartache I felt when he died to lag+elves in the grasslands. His death also spawned the old 'Immz wantz to eatz my brainz' thread, though the email in question was not my own.

What vivid memories your whole account brings back for me! I was playing my first memorable character too, a Borsail aide named Yzbella. By the time Illanar was on the scene she was a senior aide and I remember Lady Kavinny making Yzbella fire Illanar. It was, at that time, one of the hardest things I'd ever done IG because while it was perfectly IC and Yzbella thought Illanar was an idiot, OOC'ly I knew you were a newb and ... yeah, it was just hard.  But darned if Kavinny didn't change her mind and re-hire him.

Your whole account of the Tuluki stuff brings back memories too.  By that time, I was on to my second character, Darian the bard.  I remember meeting Illanar at the fire pit and him trying to sell Darian his wares.   And I remember having conversations with Faithful Lady Eunoli along the lines of what a hideous lout of a barbarian the southron was.  I never knew what happened to Illanar, of course, but you know... just guessed.

Oh the memories!

Been a few years, but my first character that really sucked me in was a Scorpion Cadet by the name of Faold. Never intended him to join Tor, I thought he'd by more of a Bynner. Anyways I joined up and remember meeting a a lot of really awesome people who had great plots going on that to be honest got me into making my future characters more dynamic. It was great fun, I remember all the delays for the Copper War HRPT and how excited I was when it finally got started. It saddens me a bit he died so early on in fighting, but I'm glad playing him dragged me into the game more and made me excited for more, definitely hooked me.

The first character that really drew me in was this three-eyed dwarf Bynner I had many years ago.

I was sitting in the Gaj one day, and I overheard some Borsail noble's concubine talking shit about me, so I Wayed her to tell her to knock it off.  She Wayed me back insulting me even more, and threatening to do nasty things to me, etc.

So I put a barrier up, and completely forgot about it afterward.  About 3 minutes later, I try to contact my Sergeant for some unrelated reason, and I get the message "You can't seem to get in touch with your psionics."  Now, this was the old message you got when you tried to use the Way when you had your barrier up, but I had no idea what was going on.

I was -certain- this bitch who was talking all this mad shit about me was a mindbender, and was fucking with my head, so I did the only irrational thing:  I jumped out of my seat, drew swords, and started hacking her up.  About this time, old Berlian walks in, rescues her, and proceeds to hammer me silly.  I think I ended up getting tortured and executed in prison shortly thereafter.

But man, I look back on that and just have to laugh at my newbish stupidity.

Quote from: LoDDaedheldin.

Okay, just because you mentioned him.

So, my first character was a spice-hunter, sorta. I mean, he was told that people live by gathering spice around Red Storm, but he thought that you gather spice off the bodies of NPC sifters and giths. At some point passing cleric tried to explain other ways of getting spice to me, but I was largely unimpressed.

Anyway, once upon returning from carnage, I find Kuraci shopkeeper dead and Daedheldin standing there. And he is all like "whodunit?" And I am all like "muldunit". Said mul was the only PC whom I've seen around the scene that day, so it was very logical to accuse him. And Daedheldin is all like "whatever, come to my wagon, I wanna show you something". He lures me inside wagon, closes the door, drops a couple of menacing emotes, draws his weapons and then...

It is important to mention that I was 12 years old, knew about 200 words in English at that point and had a habit of ignoring whatever people emote and a habit of half-guessing whatever they say.

So, he draws his weapons and then I go all helpful-like, scanning the area and asking, "Are we in danger?"
No idea what was going behind the screen there. Anyway, after proving his innocence that way, my character was allowed to live, until being utterly annihilated by grandmother of all mantises.

I think I told this one. I came from a hack n slash background, but I heard about this really cool game called Armageddon on ISCA (I'm probably dating myself here). This was pre-hack n crash, but here goes.

I app'ed an assassin, who's name escapes me right now. I wander around for a while, manage to find the bazaar and some gear, and eventually wander into Trader's.....with my weapons out. Which caused an uproar because then I said "Hey, can anybody tell me where the assassin's guild is so I can train?" Luckily, there were no templars there at the time. Two guys take pity on me, show me the ropes a little and have me join an org. My cover was a seamstress.... ::) which I think became a running joke for female assassins. Anyway, I learned those sneaky assassin skills well enough to actually kill someone and had to flee the city. I found a half giant who carried me all the way to Tuluk. I'm in Tuluk for a while, lost the half-giant and got a new cover....a hunter. I get with a group of hunters and we run across an erdlu. Which proceeded to stomp me and every other hunter in the group, except I was smart enough not run  :'(

Can't remember my second character at all.

Lunette was my first character.

I was so noobie, I made the character first and /then/ read up all the document. In my background, my character taught herself to read and write. By the way, she got accepted with that background, too.

She was very beautiful, all pale and porcelain and f-me. I had no concept Arm is a desert world. She got snapped up into Atrium, there was a bug with the npc guard, I got stuck and got so bored I wrote a newbie diary on this forum.
She spent the majority of her time as Ceylara's aide in training.
Was given 5000 sids to buy wine for Atrium, but after Atrium closed down, ahem, kept all the sids. Did spent like 100 to say hey I brought some wine!
Annoy the proprietor of Atrium by flirting with him repeatedly. I used to get some kind of ooc kick out of it.
Upset some luvly Fale noble, who had a templar beat the shit out of her in Bard's. Got a sexy scar.
Had another Borsail noble wanting to steal her from Ceylara and paid another templar 2000 just to rescue her.
Got ripped off by some Guildee.
Got apprenticed under the ultra assassin Yellow Belly without ever learning codes from him. Or used backstab.
Had a tearful goodbye to see a Tor Scorpion off the Copper War with his brother (Faold?) guarding the Bard's Barrel balcony.
Consorted with an ungemmed drovian.
Had two drovian shadows fought for her lap space in Ceylara's room. I didn't know what to do or how to react when I saw pages of spam involving Someone hits someone.....
The first time she tried to steal out of Allanak to visit the drovian in Red Storm, she got found out by the npc concubine. So...
Promptly got kidnapped by her own allies into Tuluk so she'd avoid Borsail retribution.
Schemed with her drovian lover to join Plainsman's camp and become a sorcerer (had no idea wtf a sorcerer is at the time).
Stirred some kind of rescue team back in Nak.
Got thoroughly fed up with Tuluk and begged to go back to Nak, death or not....
... and died on the north road to a halfling backstab.

That is all I can remember! She lived for 6 months, seen lots of pcs coming and going due to the Copper War. Damn wasn't the sids sweet at the time. People would ask her to buy stuffs and then die off the next day. I pocketed all the sids. I remember being bored out of mind when two nobles were chatting so I'd scoff at them using thinks and feels. Then got baffled (WTF, my char is alive!) when some psi made her think back at herself. I thought it was a script...

Edit: She was an assassin/physician.  Damn didn't I branch all the non combat skills... that was when I got addicted to listen skill.

You played my character's brother's girlfriend!!  'Twas shortly after the beating incident ("he let out almost all her blood") that I believe I walked him down West Dragon's Path, trying to convince him not to think rash thoughts.

Haha. It wasn't all that bad. She was so low on stun, around 10 stun? And she passed out after the first one or two hits. I re-read the log afterwards, and found out that the templar attacked her because I misread his emotes and says. Hey, I was a noobie, I was nervous!

I envy you. My first character was a boring noob. My second one seems much more interesting, though. Can't comment on either, because it's not yet past the 1 RL year mark :P

My first character joined up with Kadius under a certain baddassmotherfuckinrapeyourface mul when he was first starting his division. Said character died quickly in the southern wilderness.

To the player of Murk. You rock man. Got me hooked, and taught me a -lot- about the game in a very small amount of time we played.

My first character was a whiran in Tuluk, whose first spell landed him in jail.  Learning, he cast his second spell outside the city, which amazingly worked and caused him to be eaten by halflings about 10 seconds later.

My second character was a half-giant warrior, in Tuluk.  I was learning though, and went outside to spar with a whole lot of people.  When it was finally my turn, I got to spar a human (who was ooc-ly complaining about the implementation of a component to the most powerful Krathi spell...should have clued me in).  I missed, he fireballed me.  End of spar, but at least I lived.  After healing, I went down the road, trying to get to Luirs.  And ran into another half-giant.  An NPC.  A Blackmoon one.

So, third character was a tuluki elven whiran.  I joined up with Khomar and twinked out in their garden, mostly, but did manage to learn a lot more about the game.  Never died, just left the game for awhile and he was gone when I got back.

First char I remember..Probably was actually my second or third..

Was a 'rinther assassin called Zakal. Totally clueless when I started but somehow got caught up with the Guild (didn't even know it was the Guild til about 12 days playtime)..Somehow managed to live for 23 days playtime and do some pretty awesome stuff before I was killed for seemingly little to no reason. That -did- start a bit of a war in the 'rinth though, and I heard imms animated the NPCs in the bar to come back me up after I died, not sure if that ones true though..

That whole char was fucking awesome though.

Eight years ago (edit: I think?), I made a new character in Red Storm and walked it into the Sea of Silt because I didn't know any better. After I repopped, I got lost in a storm and did it again. When I found out that my character was permanently dead, I got angry and didn't play again for the next four years.

 budalo (dead)
Guild: Ranger Subguild: Nomad Race: Human  14 hours

Bubalo was from a nomadic tribe.(ooc: not two minutes after existing) Bubalo is in Nak at the Bazaar, looking for food (ooc:at which time they still didn't start you with water or food.) and water, he is asked by a stranger if he can spar any change, He gives the person ten precious sid. The stranger tells Bubalo "I know where to mine some sid, come with me and we will make some coins. Bubalo, weary of such an off looks questioningly at this stranger and then says "No thanks, maybe in the morning, right now I have to meet some friends." The stranger says " Come with me or I'll kill you." Bubalo says "Try it you fuck." and runs.
Later Bubalo not knowing anything of the land wanders west to find the salt flats that are east. We wonders into the caverns, out of water be attacks a lizard, and has his but kicked, he retreats and wanders lost, finds a place to climb up, slowly dehydrating, he reaches the first landing. Breathing hard, no longer sweating as he has no water in his body to help release the heat, Bubalo attempts to climb higher, reaching a trembling hand to the lip of the next landing, is over come with dizziness, passes out falls and breaks his neck, yet not completely dead, has no energy, no strength to lift himself and dies of thirst. Buzzard meat.

Kalsam was mine.  He was a human warrior bard.  My friend got me in Arm and also he got me in the Byn.  Some how I quit Arm (for some reason) and come back after three months.  Kalsam was one year older and I stored him.  Don't remember him that well.  But he was my first.

Of course, the blind luck may also have something to do with the fact that for 5 months, I thought the only way to go from Gaj to Bard's Barrel was to.... go east from Caravan's Road, pass the Circle, go down from Templar's Way, then go west from Miner's... THEN go north to enter Bard's.

Don't even ask me how I managed to get lost INSIDE the templar tunnel before the lava pit spurted up.

after coming straight from MUSHING (my emotes were legit stupid LONG), i created "antigone" (completely random name for some greek play, was a girl's name, I cringe at it now) some tall, skinny ranger who maybe left the Tuluk once or twice. Joined Winrothol under the great Sargeant.. I forget the name (leathery, blotched dwarf?), and Dakkan! (the halfgiant)  Great times!

For some reason Antigone decides to desert the house (I think it was OOC boredom), and not realizing this is a death sentence, hangs around as a beggar before joining up with Salarr and hiding out there.

An assasination attempt later.. Antigone barely avoids execution is enslaved by the House Winrothol. He earns back his freedom, participates in a daring venture with several Winrothol compadres to the Allanaki city, where everything goes wrong, the Sargeant is kidnapped, and the whole city is looking for northerners. My character is cloaked, heading towards the stables, when he is asked by a passing noble if he has seen another northereners lurking about, at which my character simply shakes his head, refusing to speak, and gets away.

An intense funeral later.. and under a new Sargeant.. Antigone participates in an assassination committed by the Sargeant, and is put out as a scapegoat.. and summarily is executed by the templarate all the while swearing loyalty to Winrothol.

All of my character's have sucked ever since. I think it's cuz I never joined a guild after that, heh.

I know this is a stale thread, but oh my god.  That was you?  That was _MY_ first real character that drew me in. I remember being completely and utterly baffled about you accusing me of being a mindbender.  I walked with a limp for weeks :)

I've had so many characters over the years, I'm not quite certain of which one came first! I'm fairly certain that it was a Gemmed Vivaduan. He was hired by House Oash to keep their water barrels filled, and hung out with a fellow employee, a Krathi. This was well before the now defunct Council of Mages, and so getting a clan job seemed like a big deal!

I can't recall what happened to the Vivaduan, but it was a great - if uneventful - introductory experience. Magick became one of my favorite elements of the theme, and that role led to many other mages and sorcerers.

My first PC:

A mutated teenage girl up in Tuluk.

I remember writing in her background that she was the illegitimate child of some low ranking noble and a commoner (I didn't notice until two ooc  weeks after starting to play her that the person who approved my app made the noble a noble's aide.)

She comes into the game and I'm.... completely lost. For the first two weeks I kept the 'help emotes' page open on the helpfiles on the site.

Shortly after coming into the game she meets with Zalranris Tenneshi and he asks her to bring him a sample of her work after she talks a bit about her woodworking. She nods, decides she will.

I get my friend to make a character, winds up being a ranger named Auryn.

They end up meeting after not having known each other since they were kids. I start going out to the edge of the Grey and practicing my 'woodworking'. Eventually, a halfling comes up and knocks her unconscious. After he knocks her to 1/3 of her HP, she started whimpering and bleeding everywhere and trying to curl into the fetal position.

The halfling went through her stuff and took some wine, then bandaged her up and drug her just north of the Scaien Gates and left her, then stayed towatch her wake up. Her started growling at her and backing away slowly.

Naturally, first thing -I- do is have her limp to the Sanctuary and bleed all over the place until the Chosen Consort comes in and takes (pity?) on her. After a week of me not being able to find the Tenneshi, when she's offered food and water and the occasional coin for being the CC's partisan.

(I had the sample of her woodworking in her pack for like a week before this happened).

Well, of course, in my inexperience, I decide the perfect place to get her wood is.... the exact same place she got attacked. (Secret reasoning: I'll just look around first and check to make sure no one's coming up on me).

That worked really well until the invisible man, I think a sorceror, came up, surrounded her on all sides with walls of sand so she couldn't move, then started talking to her. Thusly, she got recruited to watch Corporal Valin.

Now, of course, she wasn't about to tell anyone that this happened to her. So she just starts looking around for other places to harvest wood.

Meanwhile, during her off time, she manages to lose her virginity to recruit Rakius of His Legions. And get pregnant. As someone as manic-depressive and abused as she grew up being, it came out.... horribly. She eventually lost the baby, almost died because of it.

But not before getting to do an OOC week or two of professional tavern sitting to try and gather information since CC understood she was in no condition to be getting cut down by halflings.

Meanwhile, a few weeks before, she'd met Dream and Hawk, and wound up in 'luv' with Hawk. Seemed like both of them knew and found it amusing to no end. Especially the zharal lozenge Hawk gave her. +3 to whoever played him. And Dream, for being the only one besides some random breed out in the scrub who ever even mentioned her horns. :)

Her and Rakius are still together, over the course of a few weeks, several people die to a carru, following her out to the grove where she does her lumber gathering. Chaska informs her he saw Rakius flirting with someone else. She flies off the handle, but doesn't really say anything to Rakius about it. Instead, she bitches about it to several people. Eventually, most of Tuluk is shunning him.

He's miserable, she's miserable. Same invisible magicker starts hanging out out at her grove sometimes and talking to her, leaving her steaks and ginka fruit (she actually had a ginka fetish, but that was tied to her crush on Tenneshi), one time, he brought her two war beetles, packed down with stuff. She took the stuff, stabled the beetles, and gave the tickets to CC without telling her where they came from.

Eventually, in my own stupidity, I wound up putting in a storage request. During the interval between, she managed to meet another silver haired woman she percieved Rakius as flirting with. My Pc's name: Sira, the other one: Zira. Both had silver hair. So she took Zira in and didn't tell her anything about the story she'd shared with others about her aunt who used to cut her and beat her and molest her. Instead, she introduced Zira as her aunt.

She met and became infatuated with Lasher Al'Seik. Then, eventually, of course, she was stored.

That's probably the dumbest ooc things I've ever done regarding Arm. Man I wish I could play her again.

My first 3 characters were short lived attempts at learning this game. Then came my glorious 4th and 5th characters which lead me deeper into this game at the time.

4th Character : Fralen - Warrior/Guard
Lasted 10 days.

Started out in 'Nakk, joined up with the Arm, but something happened (ooc boredom or something) and he ended up heading to Luirs. After talking with someone there he joined the Fist. Had alot of fun there, in fact I really learned the game with that character. Better emotes and better playing. Sorry if I don't remember all of you guys but I have a poor memory. Everyone I played with here was just absolutely awesome. I loved it every minute.

5th Character : Varanes - Ranger/Mercenary
Lasted 11 days.

Did some screwing around but ended up joining the Byn, had alot of fun with this guy, I remember playing with Manji and a few others. Probably one of my better played characters to date.  This guy was fun got to see a bit of Tuluk as I had never played at all up there.

I'm still currently on my 6th character amazingly enough. So eh, maybe you guys remember me, maybe you don't.

Started when the south was occupying the north. Made a guy, looked around and didn't see any players, wondered what the fuck was going on until someone spam rode by on a kank. Finally figured out to enter the village of Freil's rest before I died of dehydration. Got it into my idea to enter stuff. Thought I could get a job in one of the work camps I saw. Apparently there was a billion aggressive npcs in them :P.

My first few characters were 'rinthers who died within a few hours played.

My first real character was Phala the dwarf burglar who had a crappy past, whose parents were 'rinthers who moved southside successfully only to meet personal  disaster, and whose focus was basically "rise in social rank." I was expecting a cool, difficult struggle to become wealthy and influential through my burglary skills. Instead, I was sitting in the Gaj and somehow got recruited into House Tor (I didn't bow to the Tor noble who recruited me, which got me newbie sympathy points I think). That pretty much determined the path she was going to take.

My stats were pretty badass and I was a dwarf with the guard subguild, so being a burglar didn't stop her from excelling within the academy. Her "difficult" path of gaining social respect become a straight shot of waiting for promotion. In the meantime, I got to be involved in some pretty interesting plots, met rogue magickers, nearly got eaten alive by a Giant, survived falling down a 10+ room pit in a sekrit place, and fell off the Shield Wall while riding an argosy. Along the way she completed her cadet period and made full Scorpion, and her PC leader gave her a really badass clan-specific sword.

I tried to practice my lockpicking, sneaking, and listening skills, but really I just ended up wishing I had rolled her as an assassin or warrior. She ended up too safe, and I was having trouble finding an interesting way to expand her focus because it seemed like the realistic way to play it would to be sit with Tor and eventually earn further promotions. I toyed with the idea of having her getting involved with her 'rinthi roots and creating conflict that way, but I decided it was too unrealistic. Her simply waiting to get promoted within House Tor was the logical path, but one I wasn't interested in playing out. I ended up storing her around when there was a leadership shakeup at House Tor with a lull in activity, and I kind of regret it. All in all, though, she was a good character for learning the game.

Going along with the same vein of "my first real character"....

Following a number of mostly forgetable characters, I began to grow a better appreciation for the game as a whole when I was invited by Hot_Dancer to join this d-elf tribe he was creating and recruiting for.  It was the character's I'd made in early days of the Soh Lahna Kah that opened up my eyes to much of the wealth of culture that Zalanthas has.

After quite a number of characters later, and a few RL years, I rolled up a young Elkran named Rahal, who ended up being called "Rahaj" which she tacked on as an alternate name.  I was with her that I began to appreciate and get into more of the "social" roles and aspects of the world, intsead of mostly combat and exploration.  Running around as a rogue magicker, involving herself with the Council in Exile, being intimidated and told to spy on the rebel Council leaders by Lord Templar Shiran (I think that was his name) Oash of the Blue, then turning around and spilling her guts about it to the ones she was told to spy on.  Digging up and finding components for certain long saught after spells and items.  Generally confusing and mashing up "city culture" and terms.  And only branching a single spell during the few weeks and 5 days of total playing time that she lived.  It was a blast.

My first truly (as I see it) fleshed out character, with a background that haunted her and enough of an IC hisotry to grow beyond just her starting personality, would have been Farseer (whatever it was) and Seeker Kara of the Council of Allanaki Mages.  There was a woman with more issues than I'd thrown into any of my PCs until the time.  I, as a player, also developed an appreciation and deep respect for those leaders who managed to keep their underlings happily occupied.  I never really felt like I was able to do that, myself.

I created an elven pickpocket for my first character.  I was completely newb and was running around emoting with NPC's and trying to pick their pockets.

Well, an NPC yelled at me, and a player must of heard it.  I got approached by a figured in a cloak and told that I would have to give 50percent of my pickpocket earnings to him or else he'd stick me with a knife when I wasn't looking.

I believe at the time I was a desert-elf, so I was like, I'm not getting extorted by some guy claiming this is his city, so I went out into the desert.

I ventured for a time, getting lost, and eventually falling into a hole of some kind.  I couldn't climb out of the hole, I kept slipping.  I was stuck trying to yell for someone to help... Nobody came...  I eventually died from thirst/hunger.

That alone got me hooked on the game.  The fact I got extorted by some assassin type, and that I died out in the desert made me love Arm.

You never know whats going to happen.  Fastforward a few years and I'm back to playing(as I just stopped playing muds pretty much after that, real life circumstances).

I already told my first character's story in this thread. By the time he died, I had a good grasp on the game blah blah blah. Now I want to tell the story of a -better- character, and the first one where I think I really nailed it.

For a while, I had been playing a dwarf warrior who went on all sorts of great adventures and witnessed cool IG events (his story from the gith invasion is fucking sweet, but another time, another time), but I had gotten to a point where I wanted to play something a little... darker. So I stored him and wrote up Khel, a 'Rinthi burglar. I wish I could say that Khel developed into a badass criminal rolling in the 'sid with connections all over the Known, but I can't. He was just a total scumbag that -wanted- those things. It wasn't long before he fell in with a gang headed by a mutant called Patches and the fun began.

At the time, it seemed that Patches and anyone connected with him were the targets of this rogue Elkran running around the alleys, so the crew did the only logical thing: they hiked all the way to fucking RED STORM to wait till that magicker got deaded. The gang was highly entertaining, though, so it was pretty fun and lead to one of my favorite Arm moments...

When the gang first got to Storm, they got set up in a place and decided that they were going to show those hicks in the village how badass they were by taking over the alleys down there. They got all warspiced and pumped up, ready to kick some serious ass. They walked into an alley like they owned the place, looking for trouble... and they found it! I just remember Khel getting fucking pwned and someone yelling "Shit! They got a mul!" before the gang was thoroughly routed. I don't know, that story still makes me chuckle.

Anyway, living in Storm sucked for Khel. Eventually, he walked back on his own, and was chased by not one but -two- wild beetles. He swore off the wastes forever once he reached Allanak. Back in the 'Rinth, Khel came to the realization that basically everyone he rolled with was dead, with the exception of a young woman named Sister (who went by Hero southside, if I remember (I should note that Khel never went by an alias 'cause he was so fucking BAD and wanted everyone to know his name  ::) )). She stayed in touch with Khel, but decided that she was going to keep southside and try to make a real living. She bugged Khel to come down and stay with her and change his ways, but he was always like "Psh, fuck 'at noise, I'ma stay in th' alleys where there ain't no fuckin' robes t' push me 'round." So he did, and Sister eventually BLEW HERSELF THE FUCK UP at the Gaj. That kind of flavored the rest of my time with Khel, as he viewed Sister as a lost opportunity at really starting a life. Some of her last words to him haunted him till his death as well: "You're a good man, Khel."

In the meantime, Khel had many burglarly-related misadventures and eventually fell in with a murderous, spice-addled half-giant named Traum. Traum was probably one of the best-played half-giants I've seen, and he's one of my favorite characters I've interacted with. He was fucking scary, but Khel was determined to use him as his personal weapon of ultimate destruction. The only problem was that he found himself getting sympathetic towards the tortured giant. It was really fun playing with him. Traum went on to kill a man who I was pretty sure randomly backstabbed Khel one day in the alleys. That murder lead to Khel's death... but I'm getting there.

Traum and Khel used to talk shit about the "cuntsh" southside, especially the templars. However, one day while Khel was doing some work southside, he ran into everyone's favorite one-eyed Red. They caught each other's eye and all of Khel's bravado evaporated. Samos interviewed him right on Meleth's and Khel was terrified. All of a sudden, Traum is in his head asking if he's all right, because he sees Khel with that templar, and does Khel need him to run in there and kill the templar?  :D Khel was like "Dude, no! This is a -Red-, man, he's got a fuckin' metal sword! I'm freakin' out!" Khel was eventually let go, and I got a nice comment from a staffer on how he handled it. Khel had many more little adventures, but I think I'll wrap this up now.

Khel was executed in the 'Rinth in an awesome scene. He pissed off the wrong people with his shenanigans, and when faced with death he cried like a little bitch. He regretted not taking Sister up on her offer then, and that's what he dwelled upon until the end. He was given a poison tablet to end it himself. The last thought to drift through his head as his body was tossed onto a trash heap (and a split second before the mantis head) was Sister saying "You're a good man, Khel."

That character was tons of fun, and I found myself with magicker karma when I went to make a new character. Heavily influenced by my experiences playing Khel, I went on to roll up a really fucked up Whiran who ended up being my -favorite- character... But that one's too recent.  :)

Character 9. Emma. She's the one character in whom my Arm experienced first really blossomed fully. I'm feeling nostalgic about her tonight so here's her tale, shortened somewhat.

I started her off, vaguely planning to make her into a whore. She was a warrior, but I wanted to do something else, different. I met a man in the Gaj, and I can't even remember his desc or name, but he was from Red Storm. He was recruiting people to come down and work for him there. Little bit iffy circumstances but I jumped on the chance and to this day I'm glad I did.

He had a wife, and a second-in-command who was a mul. The calico-skinned mul, or something like that. Turns out they wanted people to hunt spice for them, which they in turn were going to sell to Kurac or something along those lines. They had ties to Kurac, loose ones at best. The other guy I was with ran off but I stayed to hunt spice. It was fun, other than the constant threat of silt flyers. I liked the group. Especially the mul.

And yeah, my human had a relationship with a mul. I was relatively new. If it was happening now I probably wouldn't have gone down that road, but I did and it caused me to make some choices that led to some very interesting rp.

Anyway, one day I went out early in the ic week to hunt the spice to find a wall of sand on one side of the north entrance from Storm. And a templar and a bunch of 'naki troops the other way. Believing it to be about the spice, I dropped my sack and took off, only to be caught by some militia man and brought back to the templar. I believe this was none other than Insahn, though he was a bluerobe then. Though it might have been Sathis. I so wish I'd been better about logging this stuff back then.

I was taken back to 'nak and thrown in the prison once I admitted who I worked for. And left there, literally for hours that day. I spent that time frantically trying to way the family and warn them. Managed to get the calico mul to find out that they'd been after the whole group. The mul and the wife got away. They had no idea what happened to my employer. After being hauled out of the cell I was told he was captured and was talen to Meleth's Circle, to watch them execute him. They said he was a mindbender, something that completely blew my mind. I'd never seen him do anything odd. The whole scene was so well-done, even imms having someone throwing rotten fruit at the man before he was beheaded. I reacted by puking upon the half-giant who was holding me in place to watch the scene. I was released. The wife was sent her husband's dismembered foot.

I wasn't sure what to do, was offered a job by Oash, which I took, but promptly ran away from the city, finding the mul and wife and mounting up on a ride that seemed to take forever, in the dark of night. Though probably it was because I sucked at riding. We met a man who took us to the BlackMoon camp. And thus began Emma's career as a blacmoon raider. She and the mul lived in the camp for a good long time, training, hunting, and raiding with the group and Sandman/Bushman. I learned how frustrating really being a raider was. So many people would spamrun away. Though I did wind up taking an item of some guy's clothes as a trophy once. I kept it.

Eventually many or our companions were hunted down by Sathis and Insahn. Including our PC leader at the time. After a long time of this the mul and I split off with the group and headed to Storm, where we kept our heads down and just made sid trading there. We were there when an imm-run NPC contacted me via the way to say the hideout had been breeched by the nakis, and most of our people killed or enslaved.

After a while, I wound up storing Emma. Now I wish I'd done something more spectacular with her at her end. Hunted down the templars, or something. But it was my first involvement with some very badass characters in some very exciting times. Many characters later I still hated those templars, though now I think they just did their roles quite well.

Just figured you all would be interested in this. Wish I had the logs.

Let me necro this thread...

I played back in the early 90's before there was accounts, but I never really go into it.  I was in college at the time, and would be on every once in a while, but there was a limit of 40 players, so it was always full when I tried to get on in the evenings, and it was closed for "quest day" on Saturday, and Sunday was Immortal maintenance day.

When I started playing again in the early 2000s , I remember shade.  I met him with my first character when I started playing again.  He helped me out a fair amount with my first two character, taking them hunting and showing me around.  My first character had a sdesc of the tall dark man, which lead to keyword confusion anytime someone wore one of the rinthi cloaks, and of course my name was like 10 characters long.  I would go out hunting with shade for a while killing scrabs.  I kept trying to join the Byn, but since I was playing from Europe, I could never find a sergeant online.  When I finally did, I was admitted to the Byn, and the found out most of the time I was playing, I was the only one on, which lead to a lot of boredom.  I eventually though I had enough skills go kill scrabs, so I went by myself hunting and promptly died.

My next character was also a ranger, so he would forage for food.  There was a message from one of the nobles on the rumor board saying he was looking for certain herbs and roots, so I met him in the traders, and showed him the roots I had.  He told me to follow him back to his compound and he would show me the types of herbs and roots he was looking for.  I followed him back into the Noble quarter, was drugged, tied up, and dissected.

Many deaths followed.  Another facepalm newbie moment was when I found the corpse of someone out in the wild with some berries on them, one of them partially eaten.  I figured, score, some food, and proceeded to eat the berries and poison myself.  Only then did I realize why the dead guy died with partially eaten berries....

My PC was a pickpocket who never picked any pockets in his life, except maybe once as a trick which did not end well.

He was a Clerk for the AoD, but his true loyalties were with someone who ended up getting him into a lot of trouble by association. He ended up being threatened from all directions, and freaked.

He fled to Luir's and got the deadly sdesc change, then was found. He was about to be escorted back to Allanak when he got killed by a gith.

He lived a pretty long time for a first character, I think, and did pretty well, although I didn't play too risky for the most part.

It's been tough to get into characters after that one. I was really emotionally invested.

My first character was Asil, the amber-eyed man.

He started as a loyal Tuluki citizen and served as a partisan to some noteworthy Jihaens, and also briefly in Uaptal.  I can safely say that if he wasn't 'recruited' by the very excellent and apparently legendary Wisp, I wouldn't have kept playing the game.  Kudos to whoever played her.

In retrospect, he did all kinds of things that should have got him killed -- chopping trees and gathering and crafting in the middle of the wilderness, nearly getting eaten by halflings, getting peppered full of arrows by bandits, all without any kind of combat skill.

Eventually he grew disillusioned with Tuluk, coming to believe that the modern government of the city had betrayed its founding principles, joined Kurac, and ended up making it as far as Agent, in which capacity he remained for a good while.  He wound up knowing lots of people, raising the money to get Kurac back into Allanak, exploring forbidden topics and learning about things I'm probably not allowed to discuss, learning to read and write, before ultimately being murdered by the government he originally served.

I guess it was a pretty good run for a first character.

My first character was Sunblood.

The Glimmer and the Glory.

The Beacon of Luck.

He had a dozen different names, a dozen different faces, and no character before or since has matched how absolutely amazing it was to play him. I didn't play Armageddon. I played Sunblood, the game. Roughly three quarters of every emote was a think, a hemote, semote, or something that I put in in the hopes that other players would notice and bounce off it. He sang songs when nobody was around. He loved his Inix like a brother.

He had a ballad written about him by another player. Once, someone he didn't know came up to him, looked him over and said "I've heard of you, Sunblood. Don't ever die."

It was the only character I was ever tempted to ask for a revival on (it was an edge enough case at the time I think I might have gotten mercy), but my respect for Arm was too great to sully it by asking.

I could talk about everything that went on in his lifetime for literal hours, it remains so vivid and so entertaining. Everyone I had the pleasure of playing with made that character the most fun I have ever had roleplaying, ever.

So thank you all, for contributing to the Glimmer and the Glory.

No, thank you for creating such a lively, realistic character. It the exuberance of players who enjoy roleplaying every facet of their character, who enjoy searching for new ways to flesh them out, that bring the world to life.

It's not always easy to do, but when it happens it's glorious and creates fun for everyone around. So thank you! And keep trying to reach that level of roleplay again, because it keeps this game fresh and alive, even 20 years later.

My second character ever was working for Kurac when Asil was still in Tuluk.

One of my fondest memories of that character was Asil coming to the gates of the Kuraci compound while he still worked for someone else, and asking my breed for the Sergeant. I thought it would be funny to pretend I didn't speak Sirihish, at which point I think Asil started jumping between my mind and my Sergeant's, growing increasingly frustrated until he knocked himself out with the Way and I resumed speaking Sirihish to Asil's companion.

Oh man. I don't have much of a presence in Arms/the forums, but I've been waiting a long time to vent and share in the squee over one's beloved chars.

My first character was Lumel. Just the name alone reveals how clueless I was about the Arms environment. Aint nobody with Lumel's background got any business being named Lumel.

She was definitely a flawed play - I had no real concept of RP then and held her too rigidly to the script in my head, but god I loved playing her.

She was by far my most intense, real character because everything she did not know, I did not know. I didn't need to be good at RP - her reactions were my own. When she quaked in front of a gicker's RP'd spell, it was because *I* believed us codedly affected. When she had to be broken into the Byn's standards, it was my genuine ignorance on the way of things. She greeted and mourned each new character as an entire life because I was still naive about how quickly Arms can claim and recycle.

Lumel lasted so long too. She spent years in one clan, then another, riding alongside legendary names. She made friends of some, disappointed others and still angered more. She earned nicknames like Pipsqueak and Rantarri, which I had to appreciate in her place and I did, completely. She had more near-death grazes than any other character I've had, including facing her first kryl alone, dragging her poisoned, wounded ass on foot to Tuluk, all while genuinely preparing herself to die because I knew shit about cures.

She had an unstable reputation, fought rumors of being a breed all her life, yet still managed to start her own mercenary crew, invented and held together purely by our activity. We led only one major hunt but that was such an epic, admin-meddled adventure that I still reread the log now and then.  The complete icing on the cake was after her death, when I came back and coincidentally, briefly, ran into the crew, still existing on without her and having replaced her even. I'd never experienced a conflicting gut wrench of pride and hurt quite like that.

I can't coherently rave about Arms enough for letting me have an experience such as Lumel. I'm proud as a parent of her undying defiance, born of authentic grit because it was before I understood the mechanics of stats and what that meant about her chances in a fight.

P.S. She ran into Asil too!

Well, before I made my current character, I had about maybe one or two that I used before I actually 'got into' the game when I was much younger, though I remember them kinda well.

First one I had was an elven assassin in Allanak. I remember not knowing what the heck I was supposed to do (and even now, I'm pretty clueless, lol, considering I was so on-and-off back then). However, there was one quick-witted elf merchant who was able to help me out immensely and took me on as his guard/errand-boy and showed me the ropes, if I recall correctly. Helped me out slightly OOCly with some specific syntax as well. What I remember most about him though was a trip showing me through the 'Rinth at one point along with one really tense moment where I was threatened by some Oashi half-giant (oh boy, I was so scared and confused I just wanted to quit, lmao). So, Allanaki elf merchant guy, whoever you are, you rock. :D If I recall, I think I had him killed off by exploring the walls outside the city and happening upon a camp of gith... bad move on my part but I didn't know better :(

My first real character was my fourth named Dake.  He was a crazy dwarf with a crazy background.  He started out in Allanak as a stonecarfter but was quickly hired into House Kadius after maybe a real life week of waiting and working on his crafting skill.  Once he was in Kadius, he had a great mentor by the name of Ayla (I think that was one of Boog's PCs), who ended up being into one of the bard's Circles in Tuluk., how taught him how to stonecraft correctly and speak the northern accent when Dake was in the North. He also enjoyed his time with Brek, one of the hunters.  Dake died to something in game that I can't never say what it was, but I had a blast playing him.

I've been gone for some time so details are pretty scarce. The only two characters that really stand out in my mind was one of my first longer term combat characters who started in the byn and got sponsored into the Tor Academy. I think that character had something to do with braids in his sdesc.

Other one that stands out was I believe an assassin character who I don't think ever fault. Was more of an aide to some rich character. Ended up getting killed because he offended a templar with a song he sung. In the templar's defense it was about him. I'm actually looking to see if I can find any of my old files to reminisce about it all now.

Were those RAPTOR braids?

No. I'm honestly not sure I only have last three character descriptions in the site biography. I don't ever remember that being a thing. And I can't remember names. I might have my old arm docs on a harddrive sitting in the closet but I'm not sure.

Ahh. A familiar GDB log in. So found my old hard drive. Two big characters that hit for me was number 14 and number 16 I believe.

Ghat - the short, husky man:  was my character that worked in House Tor. Had some great fun training recruits and others who joined the academy.

The other character was Yult: the desert-scarred, young man: Who lived an interesting life that pretty much involved no coded interactions.

I remember Ghat, but I have no recollection as to what our interactions were.  Welcome back though.

consider target,
X eyes you morbidly.

That got my first few char's killed.
Though, I did have a Mul assassin named Lareth I think, that stole the wagon of House Kohmar, (What the house was prior to Kadius) Piloted it off into the grey, and off the cliff into the Sorcs tower. (Ooops) Then after a sudden reboot a short time later, the wagon was back in Tuluk and I had to log. A few days later, he was wandering North Road, and ran into a HG floating in the air. Accompanied with a strange moment of silence because I haden't seen magick before he casted sleep on me, and stole most of my gear, go to find out it was some badassed Sorc that Vis and Wolf were hunting I think. Eventually he died to a Cilops in the grey forest next to the old Ginka Vine.

Seems like forever waiting for a year to pass...

My first (Real) PC was a bynner named Drogan.  I think I must've just caught a portion of "Private Parts" when Howard Stern was in his gawky stage of not knowing what to do with himself, his life, he just knew he loved being a DJ - and I was determined that I'd either learn to love Arm with Drogan or I'd give up on the whole thing.

In the process I met so many awesome characters in and around the Byn I half expected to get a request back when Drogan died to stop submitting Kudos requests!  It was totally awesome and to everyone that was around the Byn when Drogan stumbled through.  Just great times and thank you all, all over again for gettin' me hooked on this game.  I hate you all!

My first character... It's been probably three years so it's likely safe as long as I'm careful to only mention PCs I know for a fact have been dead a while.

Was a Bynner ranger answering to the name of Ralph. Some wild-bearded chap, with amnesia. He was a closet breed. I pointed to Luir's, got in game, and started interacting. Met this human ranger woman who insisted he should join the Byn, and offered to escort him to Tuluk for thirty sid.

Welp, let's just say that was eventful. Aside from him getting carru'd and surviving (OW, WTF was that?!), they stopped at a gypsy camp. She tried to sell him to a gyspsy woman who said "No, not that one, he's nuts.", crisis averted. Anyway, get there, join the Byn under Sergeant Niall. Good times, everyone thought he was a Tuluki human when really he was a Luir's breed. I tried to follow the breed documents to the best of my ability, which, well, turned into some pretty interesting RP. He seemed to be well-liked. He picked up the titles "Charmer of whores" (for running screaming the word "Whoreeees!!!" as he charged into the backroom of the tavern in Luir's), "Mantis Slayer" (I saw a giant mantis show up and I'm not real clear on what happened but it was dead in seconds and everyone was baffled, I froze up at the keyboard and I have no clue who was fighting it). Most of these were sarcastic.

He once chased a gwoshi-cloaked gith out into the night screaming about some other dead Bynner, blood drenched, in a furious rage, severed gith fingers stuck in his nasty, funky beard. She and her mate screeched and ran like fuck-all as the Sergeant was in his head yelling about desertion. Good times. "For Kyle!!!" leave wagon.

He died when they went out hunting Bahamet. His job was pretty understandable. Charge the met. Well, that's all good and well, keep the met down while everyone else beats on it. Eeeeexcept. Ok, charged the met, disengaged, delay timer's still going through, charge met... and, a big, armored bahamet arrives from the south just before the delay wears off, making it the target. Lesson learned. How many bites does it take to get to the chewy center of a shitcloak? Three. Stumbling in with my next PC on people mourning his passing was a little awkward, but I managed, and had even more fun with my next.

My first PC was Aonghus (Aon), a Tuluki ranger who had over 119 days played on him when he died to a bahamet and two just-tamed oxen who turned traitor when the met attacked and helped kill him.  He was out alone with a templar for whom he'd been training oxen, and was caught afoot and weaponless when the met came in.  He managed to get on his inix but got reeled, and I don't think he ever even got his axes out, though the command was in the queue.

Aon grew up in a large, rowdy, loving logging family who had a logging company on the edge of the Grey.  I was lucky that he fell in with some experienced players who taught me the game.

I had a lot of fun with Aon.  He was the owner of the White Carru hunting company and had one of the warehouses in Tuluk when they were first opened.  He didn't hire crafters usually, or sell much to NPCs, but made his coin by providing raw materials to private PC crafters and Merchant House PC crafters.  This was great because filling the orders gave me an excuse to get out and hunt and explore, which I enjoyed quite a bit.  He didn't make money like companies with crafters do, but he made enough for whatever he needed, but always seemed to be scrambling a bit to make rent on the warehouse or other requirements, which was pretty good for me really.  He explored most the Grey and east of the thornlands, but never dared to go into Allanak, though he did go up to the gates once.  He completed the Grey Hunt tasks by actually doing the quests, and helped several others do it too, showing them the way to gather the items.

He was in a super-secret (ha! people seemed to -know-) gick hunting group being trained by a templar but it never got off the ground in his lifetime, though he did help kill a few in his years.  It became an important thing to him after being tormented by a Whiran for several RL weeks and having his best friend killed by it.  Until then he was mostly a happy-go-lucky guy looking for adventure and fun.  That hatred changed him, though I'm not sure how visible it was to those around him.

Aon would throw himself into whatever plot/event some other PC was trying to make happen, whether he'd be good at it or not.  This helped me overcome my inhibitions from being new at the game (thankfully lots of things from my years of experience on SoI translated well.)  He won lots of singing/poetry contests but resisted becoming a Bard despite some pressure.  Once he organized a big city-wide dance with nobles in attendance just because he'd paid the Circle for dancing lessons and never got to use it!  He helped run the weekly Citizens' Call for quite awhile, which I enjoyed.  He had a little red-headed son whom he loved and was very proud of.

He died sad because his bard lover and another bard broke his heart for a joke.   :'(

Aonghus... one of my favourites. Things weren't as good in Tuluk after you died.

It's impossible for me to remember my very first character.. umm 14 years ago? Roughly it would have been about then. I've no idea. It was probably just some temporary character to make when life was boring in other RPI muds. Arm at the time was my fallback for some combat and fun.

My first character coming back after a long break was Veritas, some Allanaki nobody that I messed about with before settling in Tuluk with a hunter/lumberjack. The first real character I had which got me hooked again was Calistyrr. He was the giant of a man. Cal had quite a few offers on my first day for work. Kadius wanted him, then Salarr, but he ended up going with the Legion. I was lucky to have made some close friendships, one especially with another Legionnaire named Senith, and Cal became quite a decent warrior, they both did. He had four siblings, which all were PC's at some point. One of the brothers actually died in a mounted sparring match by Cal's beetle, when he mistakenly used charge I think it was to start the combat. That was messy. Lots of drinking and anger came out then. Also he lost a favourite in a warren rat who had become Corporal. 'Right den' was one of his favourite lines. The promotion curse got him. Cal eventually made Sergeant, and was involved in the Grey Hunt, and was one of the one's Aon helped. He eventually had a son, which Tenneshi took after his mate got killed. He is definitely one of my favourite's, though RL got me, and his ability sort of hit a plateau in normal circumstances so I thought to push him further, and a single kryl got me. It's quite stupid really, considering his ability to go toe to toe with a bahamet.

One of the toughest challenges he ever had was when he had to be midwife to a certain Kadian who had twins. I was so out of my league, both IC and OOCly, but it was quite entertaining.

I think my first 20 or so characters were either dead on their first day in the rinth or in tuluk somehow (See negative account notes). Not much there.

Tasfalen, the winrothol guard was the first character i'd say was a 'character' in arm. Out of like 80 he was... one of the early 20s.

I can remember his superiors coming up with some crazy scheme to go murk gemmed in Allanak, and literally as soon as we entered the city gates:
Militia enter the room on caravan's road like" "HEY EVERYONE STOP HERE WER LOOKIN FER SUM FUCKING TULUKIS"

And immediately the dwarf guy in charge of us (Akim?) gets taken. So everyone else scatters and we run to the labyrinth-- Really just confusing and terrifying. Somehow I made it back to Tuluk alive.

There was a female noble in charge of winrothol at the time. I wish I could remember the name. Never really interacted with them, just hated the character in particular. She hired on some scummy little chump into the winrothol guard that was her little brown-noser.

Well, this guy forgot to check my stats or something early on: We're in the sparring room one day and this (he will be called brown-noser) just.. talks shit and kills another house guard (PC) in the sparring room. (This is back in the day when people handled business by locking you in a compound so you couldn't flee: In this case, our own compound. I think how she did it is gave him enough rank to dump us and engage in combat, or maybe he was trying to kill us.)

Anyways, i'm young, I've got great stats on this character, and if I had known what I was doing I would have made an awesome escape because these guards and this guy couldn't handle my awesomeness-- I think I was really upset at the time and I didn't understand the clan was closing for awhile-- So instead I just ran around too worked up and anxious to remember to go kill her and grab the keyring first.

So I whoop this guys ass in short order and he tries to bring in some house guards to fight me. I think I actually do pretty good against those but they start stacking so I run... I'm just running around the winrothol compound fucking shit up and screaming shit like "AKIM WOULD HAVE KILLED YOU!"

I finally get backstabbed again looking for this noble chick upstairs. I would have given anything to kill her at the time I guess she organized the whole thing!

Anyways, really set the pace for winrothol. The next and only other time I would play in winrothol, the staff animated a bunch of elves during some RPT and killed us all.

The Sergeant was my third PC, there was a little Salarri hunter that I had for a couple of weeks before they offered the role to me.  I'd applied for a Salarri crew leader or something and they offered me the sergeant role instead.  Thank goodness.

Funny story...  I was going to suicide the hunter to take the role, but I thought I'd spend his last day exploring the south since I'd never really played there and knew I was going to have to try to sell this experienced Byn fellow.  So I had this big plan...spent all his money to buy arrows, outfitted himself, and then set out on my big adventure...and immediately fell over the shield wall.  Survived by clinging to the wall, but the beetle was knocked out.  Climbed down, got attacked by a giant worm!  Ran away, circled back around, beetle still unconscious...so I thought I'd look around some busted up wagon to kill the time.  So basically I added less than 10 rooms to my map that 'day of exploration'.  But it was an adrenaline-filled few minutes.    ;)

Cal was great.  I enjoyed Aon's time with him.  He was a great leader!  I thought you'd actually suicided him.  I'm glad you didn't, it would be sad if you'd gotten so tired of such a great PC.

Dang, that Senith could hit -hard-, remember?  LOL.

Gul of the Tzai Byn
I had a couple of PC living in their own world, but this is where one first met the real world
She started at 16, the legal age for Byn, though she added a few extra years on for the sergeant.
Bad starts, ironically good wisdom I think, and in those days you were lucky if they age rolled improved. Hers didn't, though
she was virtual for the best years of her life.

She was  a runt in an abusive, protective family, she loved her (mostly absent) Da, the worst of them all. Sometimes she
would follow the black sheep of the family, a quiet hunter.
Followed the family tradition to the Tzai Byn. She started as a lying little shit, soon encountered role model No 1 Trooper/Sergeant Raj, and I still remember the conversation that "turned" her. ooc it was a revelation how events can twist your story as I assumed she was heading for the dark side.

Offline for two years, back with a dubious story. Soon found the biggest meat shield in the warband, halfgiant Trooper Zune,
and she stuck to him like glue. It's a pity our playtimes didn't synchronize better. She was completely loyal to him when
they gave Zune the second stripe, until he eventually left/was dumped for Salarr.

Mainly played offpeak, mainly sparring with vpncs. Riding outside the walls was a real treat. She and me were as dumb as they come. She was a ranger when rangers had a monopoly on stormwalking,  I have a hopeless w-e direction sense and the Known was all Unknown. Couldn't lead the sergeant from the East gate to the West gate in a storm.
Once a runt, always a runt, and that made for a lot of moments. Only against fresh runners could she win.
So many good memories though.
A real earthquake while she was getting bawled out by  sergeant Dar somewhere in the sands for being dumb, and insubordinate.
Missing a sewer contract by ooc being late, and digging out my own blocked septic tank instead.
Her and Zune and a borrowed beetle getting "lost" in the north for a few weeks. "Have you ever been to Tuluk", on the way to fill water from the Byn camp.
AWOL to solve Zune's murder, anyone wearing 'horror armour was suspect.
Entering a poem competition on the spur of the moment, prompted by her distain for the local Tuluki entries, and her passion
to tell of the Allanaki Byn defence against the gith.
Afk for an hour or so to find she had missed seening Muk Utep, though her mates filled her in.
Performing another poem, about a Tuluki Bynner who'd died to the gith invasion far from home, performing it in HIS Sanctuary,
getting into an argument over Muk at the same time.
Being shocked out of her skin to be offered a sargeant stripe. ooc I couldn't at the time, though Zune said 'go for it'
Later ooc stuff freed up a bit, so I offered her as a sergeant.
Last trip to Tuluk, I expected her to be offered the stripe again. On the way back, charged a carru. Didn't even knick his
skin. Her mates, too late. But we'had been a good time together in Tuluk (our Kul the butcher was one) so quite a nice way to end.
She was honoured with a cremation back in 'Nak.

An easy ride to Tuluk, some hunts on the way,
The job quickly done, though little the pay.
With whats left of Dar's Suns, and the Toks they'd become.

Getting drunk in the pubs, then safely away.
Riding the North Road, one last day.
Not far from the Span
From where Josi had ran.

Charging a carru ahead of her mates,
Gul on black Raj, headlong to Fate.
Gul says "on me", jabbing Kuls spear.
A spear sung from carru and a baobab pole.

but the dice fail to roll

"Rescue Gul"?
None but a body ~lies here.

Having now encountered the "order" command in game, I now suddenly realize what happened with one of my first PCs and a staff animation gone wrong:

My first PC (or thereabouts) heard voices, being especially convinced the Dragon was talking to her, and was more or less deranged.  Anyway, she advanced up to something like Corporal in House Salarr.  One day, she was organizing items in the Salarri argosy with a Cadet, and two kankflies flew in.  She grabbed her club, and chased one around and pounded it into the ground.  The other one flew down, and it looked like it was mourning the death of its partner.  Then suddenly, I got:

A kankfly says, "o kankfly".

The other PC (a veteran) promptly ignored that, but not me or my PC - it was a transformative moment for her and she was fairly convinced that the Dragon was speaking to her through a kankfly.  It also turned into a lot of plots for bits of gadgetry to prevent mindworms and fix herself, and she joined some cult.

All this to say: while big plots are awesome, sometimes little animations (even mistakes) can be just enough to kick a lot of almost plots into real plots.

Agggh... my very first character. His name was Greg. A merchant / guard who worked out of allanak. He didn't do much. The first time I actually got to play, me and gunner got into a silly bar fight and I used ''kick'' for real and the guards whooped my ass and sent me to jail. Good laugh.
When I got out I thought it'd be nice to do some exploring. So I went out to the salt flats and ran across some salt worm carcasses. Eh. Walked some more and came across an entire mekillot. He didn't bite me. I stood there for a good... two minutes before deciding to ''kick'' the mek for real too.

and that is the story of Greg. A merchant / guard who was my first character ever.

My first was back in 2000 right when I got back from Basic Training. I had no idea how to play, I wondered out the Merchant Gates and died of dehydration. I didn't play again for like three months thinking it was a stupid game. Then I stumbled on it again, and this time with more time to actually learn the game. My next character was a pickpocket that targeted Templars and somehow lived for a while before a certain black bearded Templar eradicated him.

My first was in 2001.

She started life in 'nak named Rynae.  Middling stats and bland background, nothing spectacular.  Immediately joined Oash as a guard, ended up an Elite, then got ranked up as Sergeant in the Elites.  But she was a ranger and was promoted mostly due to longevity and RP.  Could barely ride, really.  No combat.  Pure ignorance on my part about anything except leave gates=death so I didn't.  Ever.

First time she got dominated by a recruit in the sparring ring was a significant vote of no-confidence in her ability to lead.  Rp got really bad in the clan, in-fighting got worse.  Couple of New Boss changes and the original Lordling who hired her quit playing.  Just wasn't fun to play in the city anymore, so she took to patrolling more outside for fear of death by friendly fire.  Got lucky on a lot of stupid things and then met this Kojiro Fale character at some boring stand-and-guard gig.  Got drunk with him a lot, hiding from her own folk, and had some intense conversations and was really amazed at that character's RP and ability to present so many facets.  In one of the drunken conversations, he encouraged her to "change her face" if she was unhappy.

So she left all of her Elite gear, save for one something indicating rank, and blindly rode north-eastish through the salt flats.  Through the Red.  Got chased by lots of things, got lucky again.   Ignorance is not just bliss, it seems to be impenetrable armor sometimes.     Made it to Luir's out of dumb luck and using the 'hunt' skill after getting passed by some cloaked folk.  Somehow got an audience with this guy named Sargax where she gave full disclosure, surrendered the insignia as proof, and asked for asylum in exchange for an oath of lifelong service.

Shaved her head, tattooed a fist on her face, requested a sdesc change, and took the name Shailyn.

From recruit to regular to outrider recruit to outrider to outrider lieutenant.   Spent a long, long time in Kurac.  Got better at making things die, explored lots of places, did lots of crazy things.  Stood shoulder-to-shoulder with my former Oashi boss and big units of NPC soldiers on the walls of Kurac as an army came down - - was butt-puckered terrified he would recognize her.  If he did, nothing was ever said.  Not to her anyway.

Learned bendune, got transferred to junior agent . . . and then to agent.  Stationed in Tuluk, took over running the Tooth and working out of the estate.  Remodeled the Tooth*.  Worked on some of the buildings in the Kuraci estate.   Took to wearing all white armor.  Kept her spears from her outrider days. . . used them often as punctuation in negotiations.   Learned how to be a straight up Kuraci mafia boss**.

Stored her in 2003.

Later on, one of her employees took over the Tooth and erected a statue of her behind the bar.  First time I saw that, I got a little teary-eyed.

Learned a lot about being a leader from that PC . . . learned more about being a follower.   Was real proud to see actual impacts of her presence in the game a decade or so later.  Maybe will get to sit at that bar again and see the statue one day.

Still, decade and a half later, chasing that feeling of IC relevance.

Edited to add:
*The Tooth, before renovation, was a very boring single-room bar.

**I knew I had achieved Kuraci Godmother status when Agent Shailyn's presence was so intimidating to a noble that one of 'em used "talk" instead of "psi" and blurted out how nervous she was.  Overheard it at the table where Shai was smoking a pipe and holding court.

Pretty awesome story.  I've noticed some of the statues I've seen in Arm just so happen to be some rich and powerful dude/ette who, in the greater scheme, was just passing through and left their mark with ...  a statue.  But for once, it's nice to hear the story behind one of those that is actually meaningful.

Kurac is far and away my favorite Arm clan.  It's amazing to play a Kuraci mafia boss, I highly recommend it to anyone.

My first PC (that lived passed a few days) was a Legion soldier who was a dumbass for both IC and OOC reasons. Bragged about singlehandedly killing 20+kryl with a broken sword, and proceeded to live for about 8 RL months. He also took the title of Krylslayer.

He killed 3 Kryl that I'm pretty sure staff debuffed for him because he was so weak.

Playing in Kurac was just amazing during that time.  Proactive, responsive clan imms combined with strong, long-lived PC leadership and a constant influx of new blood.  I've had a few long-lived PCs since then that I felt were cool in other ways - - but nothing like that first one.

This isn't my first character.  My first character was a Tor Scorpion cadet who was kicked out of the clan because I decided to take a RL month off.  Not really happy about that even now, but what can you do?  I think he tried going out hunting on his own and gotten eaten by a scrab pretty quickly after that.

So instead I'll bring you the story of the first character that I have a bio for.  I named him Oonhod?  How the heck did I come up with that? Dated: Mar 01, 2006
Quote
Oonhod's father was a stone dealer and his mother was a hunter.  The two
were not very close, cooperating only to raise a couple of children.  They
argued so often that one might question how they spawned children in the
first place.  Oonhod's older sister hopes to have a good career in the
Legion, a desire imparted to her by her parents.  Military service has
little appeal to Oonhod.  He finds the lifestyle of Tuluk's professional
asssasins to be much more romantic and alluring.  It's all that he can
imagine himself doing.

Okay, reasonable background, right?  I seem to remember deciding that I wanted to try playing an employee of a Noble House for the first time.  Why not try Winrothrol?  If you're going to play a member of a Noble House, you might as well be a slaver, right?
Quote
Date: 20 April 2006 - Early Character Experience
After Oonhod left the shelter of living with his parents,
He poked around Freil's rest looking for work.
He got several good offers,
However he took a spot in House Winrothol under Serjeant Akim.
Serjeant Akim was mentioned prominently in a couple of other recent posts.  Totally awesome.  I seem to remember him placing well in one of Kurac's sparring championships, which were a really big deal at the time.  Unfortunately the Winrothrol staff really made us spell it Serjeant which was laughable then, laughable now, heh.
Quote
Life in the Blood Hunters : Apr 21, 2006
Oonhod was pretty shy when he was first in the Blood Hunters.  To some extent, he's
come out of his shell although he's fairly quiet and withdrawn to a large degree.  While in
the Blood Hunters, he picked up a few fairly surly habits.  He learned to talk a little
better, but his polish doesn't show through very often.  His closest friends were a giant
named Draka and Serjeant Akim.
Both of those character would end up being somewhat instrumental in my character's life.  Not sure on the date of some of these because they're inconsistent with what I remember, but I'm reporting what I have in my records.
Quote
Training Under Serjeant Akim : Apr 26, 2006
3 Probably the highlight of Oonhod's involvement in House Winrothol was participating
in the Slave Auction as a guard.  Although Oonhod usually doesn't like large gatherings,
having a role to fill and a clear place in the proceedings made him more comfortable.  He
enjoyed the ceremony of it.  Also, he enjoyed getting to see the Chosen Lords interacting
together as a group.
together as a group.  (SIC)
That might actually have been like my second or third HRPT.  I have a tendency to avoid them.  My interest in them usually relates to the level of trust that I have in the staff running them.
Quote
Leaving Winrothol : Apr 26, 2006
4 Even as Oonhod settled more and more into the life of a Guard, he knew he would need
to leave in order to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a high-profile licensed
assassin.  He received an offer of sponsorship from Faithful Malik, and agreed to leave
House Winrothol.  Serjeant Akim took this particularly badly.  Oonhod felt that he was
leaving the House just in time, as a Chosen Lord had recently assigned Akim what
Oonhod viewed to be a suicide mission.
And my character's suspicions ended up being totally correct.  I remember bumping into some of these guys just hanging around the Gaj?  Not sure why they'd choose to be that indiscreet.
The motive for the suicide mission was that we saw one of our Chosen Lords disappear, presumably kidnapped by mages.  My suspicion is that the guy simply stored his character, heh, and simply needed a MacGuffin.  Wars have been started on flimsier pretexts in real life.  But I didn't run down to Allanak right away.
Leaving House Winrothrol was odd.  I mean, I had a near-total inability to stand up to authority figures in real life at this point, so standing up to Sergeant (ahem, Serjeant) Akim was a real-life accomplishment for me.  I'd never done anything like that.  Very important for the formation of my real-life adult psychology.  Boy, was he mad.  And I really liked Akim, which was what made it hard.  He really was the sort of person (character?  dwarf?) that you'd want to march into certain death for.
"Forward the six hundred."
Quote
Living on the Streets : Apr 27, 2006
5 Oonhod hung around Tuluk for a while, but couldn't get a spot on Malik's busy
schedule.  Living as a vagrant, he eventually got arrested for fighting.  Oonhod's
passionate hatred of elves had finally gotten him into trouble.  Fearing retribution from
the Templarate, he left the city quietly, and tried to find work in Allanak.
There you have it, folks.  I was playing an elf-hater even when it was relatively uncommon for players to follow the docs.  EDIT:  Regarding the aforementioned suicide mission, Akim died under interrogation, somehow preserving mission integrity.  Draka PK'd a gemmed, and fled back to Tuluk.  I actually kept in touch with the player of Akim for a while, and that dude was seriously cool.  Reach out to me if you still player, brother!
Quote
Onto the Sands : Apr 27, 2006
6 Oonhod wanted to scrape some money together to pay for his own assassin's training.
His wanderings took him to Red Storm East.  Oonhod truly hated what he viewed as a
"one-kank town" however he was desperate for money.  Although Oonhod is very much
a city-boy, he's becoming increasingly accustomed to the wastelands.  While in Red
Storm East he made friends with a half-elf named Maratu.  His views are softening some,
if only out of loneliness and out of pragmatism.
It's funny how loneliness can be a theme for the game at times.  Didn't believe I'd actually written the above.  Poignant if you don't mind my saying so.  Who was Maratu?
Quote
Run-inn with some Templars : Apr 27, 2006
7 On a rare visit to Tuluk, he popped into a tavern for a business meeting.  As luck should
have it, three of the cities faithful lords happened to pop in as well.  Each tried to press
him into the Legion, a job he would have accepted willingly a year ago.  He now
mistrusts each of the Templars, and feels sure that they are trying to lure him into a trap.
He views Eunoli, Malik and the third Templar as obstacles to his own success.
This was the dark age of the game.  Clan management wasn't that hot back then.  The playerbase was younger.  one of the foibles of the game was the fact that EVERYONE WANTED TO HIRE YOUR CHARACTER, even for POSITIONS THAT YOUR CHARACTER WAS IN NO WAY QUALIFIED FOR.  LOL.  The game is a lot funner now that you actually have to compete for jobs.  You value a job more.  It becomes something of a status symbol.
The below was to be my last entry for the character.
Quote
Joining another House : Apr 27, 2006
8 Oonhod has made the decision to join House Kadius.  Once again, his motives are
impure.  He's mostly interested in a place to crash out, temporary shelter and the training.
Kadius would probably have been about the last of his choices of employment, however
they were the first to make him a tenable offer.  Ironically, he's being sent to the north for
his own safety.  Increasingly, he is doubting that he will ever live the life of a celebrity
assassin.  He's beginning to contemplate more pragmatic routes to gain influence, safety
and stability in his life.
I can't remember how this character died, but I really think it was a warbeetle.  And I really think that this same warbeetle (meaning the template) is still in game out there, heh.  You bastard you ate my character!!!

LOL

So!

It's been a whole year since I played Minuit.  He was my first 'real' character.  Some of you might remember him as:  the horned, white-haired young man.

He was a mutant born in Allanak who was stoned, shunned, and abused for being suspected as a magicker.  Hunters mistook him for wild game and after being stalked for a few months, he murdered the guy.  The hunter was a mark for a shadow artist, hired by a wealthy merchant.  He was taken back to Tuluk as a protege, brainwashed/mindbent and trained to kill.

He was quickly hired by the premier House of Tuluk at the time(Kassigarh).  This was rather out of place, since Minuit was still a mutant.  Minuit lived more than comfortably for a commoner and his patron threw thousands of coins at him regularly for doing his job well.  He also had a personal assistant/bodyguard that followed him everywhere(kudos to whoever played that PC!).  He went on to create a group known as the Troupe, a spy network of street performers(this pissed off the bard Circles).  Later on it became the Society, a Templar sponsored off-shoot of the Guild that never really took off because he ended up departing the city after hearing that a Master bard had put a contract on his head.

I can't tell you what happened after... ;)

The situation probably made more sense in context.

From the snippet we have, a noble hiring and pampering a mutant southerner is a bit out there. That's the beauty of Armageddon though, sometimes very improbable situations naturally present themselves due to the twists the story takes,. They make more sense if you have the whole story, especially if it's a long-running story with a lot of twists and turns.

One reason I try not to assume, though it amuses me when folks come out of chargen as Mary Sues. You don't need to - the game will force it on you if you live long enough.

Because of mindbending, the only people who could have known he was southern or a breed, would be a pisonicist.  Even the PC didn't know he was from Allanak.  A good point, not to immediately assume "lol bad roleplay" just because you externally criticize alignment with documentation.

If they were IC'ly trying to "police" you, then that isn't a problem. Their character had an issue with what your character was doing.

If they actually broke character and OOC'ed you, then you might want to file a player complaint.

Also, I did know your horny mutant and found them entertaining. Good job on that PC.  :)

If they were IC'ly trying to "police" you, then that isn't a problem. Their character had an issue with what your character was doing.

If they actually broke character and OOC'ed you, then you might want to file a player complaint.

Also, I did know your horny mutant and found them entertaining. Good job on that PC.  :)

Thanks!  It was a blast.

It was OOCly disclosed to me outside of the game that certain people had issues.  But that is...yeah.  It'll have to wait until next year to talk about.

I'm sorry you feel criticized.

No worries, I wasn't pointing that to you actually.  I didn't feel criticized for this PC, more the ones I played later on.  Pretty much any character I played that lived longer than a month was a total oddball with a justified backstory.

You can have fun with a role and think it was the best thing since sliced bread, and still have room to improve. No need to get defensive.

I've been playing for 12+ years and still have room to improve.

One of my first characters had violet eyes and was the most stereotypical Mary Sue ever. Did I have a blast? Yes. Am I a little embarrassed now? Well... yes.

It's Armageddon. Stop taking things personally, don't give a shit about others if you're having fun, arrange the bodies of your enemies.

I think I've told this story before, not sure in this thread though.

My first character was a burgalar who took the advice of this forum, and joined the byn at the time.

The northern byn compound was not surprisingly empty and i took my newbie character outside the compound to hopefully find one person to RP. I wandered around until I found the firestorm tavern and then right there sitting on their fucking ass, having a good chat with a bunch of people was the byn sergeant, who i had never met before, I was hired by someone else. They see me and my noob four line desc and take me back to the barracks, and then proceed to chase me around trying to kill me because I wasn't allowed to leave the barracks without Permission. Instead I was to stay locked up in the barracks and follow a shedule.

Truely wonderful introduction to just about everything I still hate about this game even to this date rolled into a neat little package, right down to the trolls who kill obvious newbies (lucky not that common in this particular game).

The staff came down hard soon after, and murdering people barracks became frowned upon, and instead people are now dismissed or handed to the authorities. I wasn't going to make another character afterwards, I mean who the fuck would want to play a game where you take the time to create a character, only to be trapped in a couple rooms alone, forced to solo RP and not allowed to leave or have fun, and if you do, you lose that character. Still I was bored at the time and decided to make one more character, however once again obvious newb character joined Kurac and was taught the true meaning of Role Playing. I was taken to a pile of rubble and over the years I watched a tavern surrounded by ruins turn into the outpost we love today.  :-*

What I care about is when people's OOC bias colors their IC attitudes.  I don't trust most people to be able to reign that in, with their lamebrained assumptions.

Also frankly, you are a troll.  You're doing it right but it's also annoying.

I don't consider some Tuluki/Allanaki jokester rivalry posts to be trolling. But you can take it personally if you want to crusade into the sunset, my man.

The best advice I have is to keep everything IC. That includes if someone is making assumptions you don't agree with on an out of character level.

"If you think characters are being mean to yours, you're probably right."

It's not their fault they don't know all the 100x reasons your PC is doing That Weird Thing. It's okay for them to be offended or confused ICly.

I made a northern grebber who by pure happenstance had the exact same sdesc as another player at the time, (the short, thick man). Learned a few things I probably shouldn't have from people whispering to and waying me, but had no idea why they were telling me this stuff. It didn't take long for them to realize I wasn't that person because I was acting like a total noob. One of them took mercy on me and took me out hunting and showed me the ropes, also showed me what gear to buy for armor and such. Signed up as a hunter for a certain overweight noble, then took a 2 RL month break after my mentor stopped showing up. Came back and everything had fallen apart, couldn't contact the noble or anything, joined the levies, kept hunting/gathering, and then one time I got jumped in the grey by a gurth and a kryl, killed the gurth and ran, but left my mount (which had 2 backpacks full of coins and stuff to sell to merchants when they would buy on it, I didn't know about the bank) and went back for it. Was blinded and died.

TLDR: Someone found a mount with like 4k coins and a bunch of stuff to sell. Then my next 4 characters all died within ~2 hours, because I had forgotten how wimpy you are at the beginning.

My first character was a tribal named Sulmon "the jasper-eyed, swarthy man". From a vnpc tribe. I was very excited to start playing, however I regret making him a tribal. I made his tribe much to closely related to a Bedouin/Arabic theme. On advice right here in the board, I decided to join up with a clan, so I went with Kurac and was hired by a female dorf sergeant. So I bought an erdlu in Tuluk and rode him down the North Road. I had no idea where I was going. Halfway to Luir's the erdlu gave out and wouldn't take my weight anymore. So I walked it. He was half-dead and dying of dehydration on the Old Tuluk Road (I had no idea how close the gate was), but thankfully a couple of Kuraci came and dragged me out of the sun and into the Outpost.
I was hired from there and my first character lived long enough to be a Mercenary for Kurac (several IG years). And there I was, new to the game and being introduced on adventures. From being taunted and haunted by a sorcerer in a desert cave, to an excursion deep, deep inside the Grey Forest. I saw A LOT for my first character. Although I tumbled headfirst into almost everything, and made some half-baked newbie decisions I regret (that probably made me look like an idiot) I had a lot of fun with Sulmon, and I'll never forget that character, and the amazing characters and players (you know who you are) that surrounded him.
And I want to apologize and thank anyone who ran into my character for putting up with the inconsistencies and newbie-flaws that my character had, helped me and played along, ultimately introducing me to the wonderfully imaginative and creative world of role-playing and the game of Armageddon. From then on, I was hooked.

EDIT: Just looked it up, he lasted four months RL. :D

Mine was I think in 1994.  ArmageddonMUD wasn't really a role-playing game yet, it was a heavily modified DIKU MUD but had a cool page that talked about some of its features.  They had just removed the ability to see your stats and specific numbers.  A buddy and I created Shadow-dancers which were like a mix between assassins and clerics.  A backstabbing, sneaking healing-magic badass.  This was the days when you typed "cast 'heal' me" and none of this Vivadu fancypants stuff.  So Allanak was just built and we started wandering out west of the city into some kind of tower.  In the top of the tower was a gaj, but we had no idea what a "gaj" was.  We just ran in typing "backstab gaj", "cast 'heal', me", etc.

Kelvik, one of the staff at the time, showed up and started playing the gaj fighting back.  My buddy got killed and so while I was running around the tower hiding and fighting the gaj back and forth, he quickly made another character and ran to me and we defeated the gaj.

This was the days before sdesc's, too, so it was shit like "Frank arrives from the west".

A few days later I applied to be on staff.  Kelvik was stoned and recruited me without talking to me first.  It was a different game...  :D
