Title: skinning
Post by: redkank on December 30, 2013, 04:43:01 PM
When you separate bones does it make a skinning check for success/failure?

you might be able to assume one way or the other on this. My advice is to do this a lot and see if you notice a change in skinning level to find out. I can't give you a yes or no. I can tell you it is very easy to find out ICly.

When you separate the bones of an animal to determine which bones are useful, and which ones aren't, does that incorporate the knowledge of skinning a creature and separating their useful body parts from their not useful body parts?

I'm not going to say yes or no, but, I will let you read into that whatever you would like to read into that.  :)

To add to the chorus of obliqueness: when you fail a craft, it counts as a failure for the associated skill.

I like the replies to this so far.

On a related note, when I think of an interesting mechanic in game, I use the idea command. I suggest something should work this or that way. Maybe some of my ideas are already implemented and I'm not aware of it; in which case, no harm, no foul. If they aren't implemented, then my suggesting them with the idea command in game means nobody else will be spoiled by them if/when they do get coded into the game.

A lot of "tiny little wants" like this should be IDEA'd in game whenever possible. The question in this thread is a great example of that, though there was absolutely no harm in you coming to ask about it on the GDB either.

edit: also, asking questions like this in clever ways ICly is also fine form.

Ok, how about this one?  If you use the dig command, will it do a skill check for pass/fail on forage?

Uhhh. I don't think so.

We have a dig command?

Also, I have always wanted to be able to bury my treasure and have people with the search skill be able to find it.

Saddens me I can't.

Dig                                                           (Miscellaneous)

This command works in certain areas where rocks can be found by digging.
In general, 'forage rocks' should be used to find rocks, but some areas
are set up as quarries or mines where you can dig for rocks.  You must
be holding a tool for digging to dig.

Syntax:
   dig

Delay: before

See also:
   forage

Huh.... has 'dig' been around for a while? I didn't know about that one either.

Yes.

This is not game breaking. Separating bones is done with the use of the skill Skinning. Screw you guys and your unnecessary vagueness.

Wow, I never knew about this command.

Ok, here's another.  If someone has a climbing rope equipped, and you have them on follow as they climb, do you get the rope mod for your climb check?

You don't get passive bonuses from others. To get bonuses, YOU have to have the item specifically.
