Title: proposal: give everyone who c
Post by: 650Booger on October 06, 2018, 06:33:17 PM
I mean, why not?  otherwise folks are just going to manually run down their 'friends' list trying to >contact everybody they know, and wasting stun points.

who c is just a shortcut for that lengthy process of trying to find clannies to RP with.

Care to offer a reason why?

It is a vegetable. Don't expect an explanation.

At one time, everybody in every clan did get who c, At the time though, it gave the truename. That has been fixed since then.

But I am still against everybody having it, because Who C is OOC.....and easily abused.

Doesn't barrier stop you from showing up on it? How else you gonna abuse it?

I would be concerned that "who c" would just make people even less likely to interact with non-clannies.   "No one in my clan on?"  log-off.

I often believe that clans are too insular already.

Im against everyone getting Who C, because what if you have a character that is 'secretly' a part of the clan, or is 'banished' but you still sneak around with clanned authority from time to time? Makes being a infiltrator-type in a clan impossible to pull off. Those with Who C already need to be super conscious about their use of the command and be considerate.

Sounds like an outlier. Not even sure the last time that happened.

This. A superior might know you're still clanned, but peer-level players dont, in an attempt to infiltrate another organization at the behest of your superior in the Secret clan. This would let every single person in the clan know you're still clanned there, including, potentially, infiltrators sent from other clans, or just loose-lipped peers that wouldn't have been told the situation for precisely that reason.

I think of who c like a department head staff meeting.  I'm against anyone but family or higher ranked having them.  Byn AoD Sergeants, yes, corporals troopers no.

I -might- be in favor of First Troopers of the Byn getting it, but only because they are, at least in my mind supposed to be quasi-sarges, that are the Sargeant when one is not around. It may allow them, and only them to effect RP in some small positive way. Though, they can always just ask, "Who is around?" to a Runner and likely get the info on who is logged in and being active.

That is a bullshit rank.  Is it even coded? They're like corporals, a step above a runner does not a sergeant make.

It is coded, and it's probably the reason Byn Sergeants die and don't store. Helps to have someone share the load and ease burnout risk. It also clears up the chain of command if the Sarge dies on contract.

Actually, it isn't a different coded rank.  When you do tribe ranks you will see:

Trooper / Mercenary / First Trooper

That is all the same rank.  Different ranks are the things on different lines, like a Runner or a Sergeant.

In the Army there are 2 E-4 titles.  One is a non-commissioned officer one isn't.  Corporals are the same rank as specialists.  It's a title.  No extra pay.  More responsibility.

Make "who c" list only characters of a lower rank than yourself. This fixes 67.2% of the problems.

hey guys, OP here, I was slightly drunk when I posted this, but I still think it's a good idea.  mostly because I recently played in a clan where everybody DOES get who c (admittedly a small and widely scattered clan), and it was very helpful.

Everyone starts with master contact.  What is the problem with using it?

Not that I couldn't compromise with this but the ranking systems aren't intricate enough for that.  While shit rolls down hill a private/apprentice/runner/recruit has no business telling anyone what to do. And ....

I think iso clans that are smaller (meaning tribes) should all get it though.

Tribes typically have who c for all members, that makes sense. For other clans I don't feel that who c is necessary.
