Here is an Armageddon related picture for anybody interested:
http://www.armageddon.org/original/showSubmission.php?submission=153
The picture was drawn by Yume and contains some current and non-current characters, all from Tuluk.
Wow, that's really nice.. Who's Yume?
Bravo!
Yeah, nice work.
I really like the soldiers' uniforms. I think they look very Armageddon.
That's awesome. Totally.
It blew me away, the first time I saw that picture.
The sky, moons and all of the clothes are absolutely fantastic. The characters are also very good.
Four thumbs up!
Wow...someone actually put a crapload of effort into an armageddon picture. It is so good and so deep. There is character in every face. Truly, this moment is a badass one...I recognize faces here, and I am shocked that I do. This is very impressive. I am so enthusiastic about this piece of armageddon artwork that does not look...slapped together. It actually makes the gameworld look cool.
THE TABARDS. LOOK. COOL. The one thing I've always hated about the sun legions were the tabards. No longer, my friends.
Whoa. Uhm ... please do more.
WOW.
Like, omg. I wish I could draw. I mess with acrylics and pretend that $15 paintbrush was a good buy, but I know I'm hopeless.
Great piece of art.
I hate just agreeing with people's posts, but Laura summarized the jist of what I feel needs to be said. Though I wasn't so stuck on the tabards thing as she is.
Thank you to the artist for putting the time and effort into this pic.
Sweet. I even recognize one of them!
Incredible. This looks professionally done.. I wish I could get a couple of my characters done, too.
It is really beautiful, impressive artwork indeed.
That's so super!
My favourite guy is the elf in the front.
Quote from: "Lavalamps"That's so super!
My favourite guy is the elf in the front.
I love the artwork but I couldn't help thinking to myself, "Damn elf loving northerners." Though I thought it was probably a halfelf rather than a fullblood.
The anime style doesn't really do it for me, but the artist is undeniably skilled. Bravo.
You know you've been rolling too many northlands PCs when you recognize the whole group. Ah!
Lord. That is awesome.
You mean those are actual characters?
That's awesome!
PS That is an elf, right? Not a breed?
I was under the impression that it was four humans and a breed. Maybe I forgot what race Vaashir is and/or was.
Quote from: "jstorrie"I was under the impression that it was four humans and a breed. Maybe I forgot what race Vaashir is and/or was.
Yep the dude in front is a breed. Stunning picture, every time I look at it I notice some new detail! I wish my character made the cast :D I think we should use the picture as an Armageddon book cover or a publicity poster. It makes me want to play :)
Quote from: "The7DeadlyVenomz"Whoa. Uhm ... please do more.
That makes me want to store my PC and go join Tuluk.
PROPAGANDA!
Quote from: "Cegar"PROPAGANDA!
Tuluk is double-plus good. The picture is too.

NEW SPEAK!
I was going to post some art work but I just got blown out of the water.
Awesome job. Anime drawing or not it's pretty sweet. :D
I play the blonde woman in the back in this illustration (pictured here at a much younger point in her life) and someone forwarded it to me yesterday. I was shocked just to read that someone had drawn my character, but when I opened it up and looked I was stunned.
So many things about this picture are right on target as far as the various characters shown that I think it might be easy for even someone who doesn't play Armageddon to guess what their roles in the story are. And as someone who knows/knew all the characters shown, I think they are all right on target.
Thank you so much. Seeing a character that I was hoping to play vividly shown this way just blows me away.
*blink blink* Wow, I always assumed Eunoli was an NPC. (Don't worry, it says in the picture description who is there.)
Wow purity your character is..to say well roleplayed would only seem to insult how alive that character has seemed to me sometimes...you've done an amazing job and i am not suprised it was drawn.
That said, the picture is beautiful...i truely envy artistic talent since i have absolutely none.
I love it, but... are all elves that emo looking?
Considering it's a half-elf... "emo-looking" is laughably appropriate.
the picture gives me a renewed love for this game! very exciting stuff, yume. :D
I was thinking of having a few more done in the same vein as this (http://www.armageddon.org/original/showSubmission.php?submission=149) picture. I'm open for suggestions... right now I'm debating between one of each type of magicker, a few locations (Bard's Barrel, the Sanctuary, Allanak from the outside, Allanak streets, etc), or some well-known PCs and NPCs.
I need to send some character descs to you artists. These rock.
I am so, so happy to see Armageddon finally getting some great artists in our community. There have been quite a few crop up recently that are very talented (not to say that the great MasterZ, creator of Baobob didn't have talent).
Anyway, please keep it up you all. It's very impressive to new players as well if they see that level of art attached to the game.
That's the kind of picture that new players should see when they hit www.armageddon.org
Put it on the main page, I say :)
Awesome. That is all I can say. I knew who the blonde woman was right away.
And as for the pic which Only He Stands There linked... *fans at her face* Whoa! And I thought David Bowie in spandex in Labyrinth was yummy. Suddenly, I have an urge to make a gemmed character so I can find him!
Quote from: "Malken"That's the kind of picture that new players should see when they hit www.armageddon.org

I'm in total agreement with that. I agree with other players who are drooling to have their own PC's drawn. That picture, in fact, was what inspired Djarjak to start the submissions thread looking for artwork. Like Lauramars, I think the tabards are cool. Even though I created the red/white tabard object long ago, I envisioned it .. less inspiring looking.
Whoever you are, person who did this, please please oh please do more. Anything. Do a kank, and it'll be great. Heh.
Also, you who drew the rukkian - very well done, I like that too. Please do more!
Now imagine this... the documentation webpages having pictures, like these, next to blurbs about various things. Someplace where Tuluk is mentioned, show the picture with those Tulukis. Stuff like that. It would make our documentation and website look so much cooler and would help people better envision some of these things (which let's admit, can be hard to imagine sometimes).
When I first saw amoeba's tembo picture I thought it was kookie, then I re-read a tembo description and said "woah, that's accurate".
Erm...would it still be cool if the pictures were done in just pencil...or are we looking for mainly full blown colored pictures like this one...?
Wow, we didn't think the response would be -this- good! I've broken down the highres image into sections so you can see some of the finer details better. I personally always thought the Tuluki neck tattoos looked really dumb until I saw this picture. Yume has also given me a copy of the original concept sketch for anybody interested in viewing that. It can all be seen on my website:
http://www.ambushpaintball.com/armageddon/musings.htm
As for using the images on the Armageddon website, I am also totally for that idea. I know the image makes me want to play, which some others have also said, so having a little visual splash might be what a text based game needs to help draw in some new players. I also hope Yume will find the time to do more images based on the game, i'm sure all this positive feedback will help entice her to do so :)
The recent artwork (and the old stuff too) has really been absolutely amazing.
I've considered sending in some of my stuff that I actually work on - I can't do coloring on the computer though. I'm decent at photo manipulation it's coloring in layers that confounds me.
As for this picture it's awesome. PUT IT ON THE MAIN PAGE.
Awesome artwork guys.
Everytime I see a falcon on someone's arm like that, I can't help but think about The Royal Tenenbaums.
"Go Mordecai!"
i dont know about you fellas...but eunoli looks smoking HOT. those prim eyebrows, long lashes, curved chin, and silver makeup! plus, i dig blondes. :D
To answer a few questions:
Are pencil sketches OK?
Pencil sketches don't scan in very well. However, if you can get them to scan in well, yes. These are acceptable. For "outline" drawings, consider doing a trace-over with pen before scanning. Pencil drawings may need to be touched up digitally before being posted/used. If you give me permission, I will do so.
I don't color well and/or know photoshop
Outline drawings are perfectly fine by me. I vote submitting outlines done in simple black ink (no textures) if possible. If it would look better colored, some of us have skills in photoshop and would gladly ply our hands at it if you give us permission to do so.
What else do I need to do when scanning them in?
First and foremost:
Scan two versions, or be prepared to. Use the Original Submissions tool to send us a low dpi (75 is default) version of the file under the 1 meg file limit. If we decide this is one that we can use for promotional materials, we may ask you to forward a 300 dpi version to us, either via mail or as Matrim has done. Nothing hurts more than to have the most beautiful thing in the world, and not have it in print-quality for magazine ads, etc.
Secondly:
Please be sure that you include an e-mail contact with your submission that works. For those that are selected for specific uses, we will need to e-mail you to confirm your permission to use the artwork.
Thirdly:
SIGN YOUR WORK =) You can also let us know a digital signature you would like so that we can make sure you're given credit when some of these are integrated into the website. Either way, we want to make certain you are given the credit you very richly deserve.
P.S. I adore the Rukkian, and I would love to see more things similar. Please check the Submissions thread I posted for Our wants and desires if you are interested in ideas: http://www.zalanthas.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=220513#220513[/b]
I am in awe of this bit of artwork. I love it, and I am full agreement of it being placed front and center on our webpage.
I would suggest that anyone who can do something creative submit their work. It is not as important that is as good as anyone else's, as long as it is an accurate representation of the world we like to inhabit.
I often see Brom's artwork presented as representative to this world, but much as the artwork is great, I've never felt that it appropriately showed the world of Armageddon. I would rather see interpretations from people that play and love -this- game, not just rehashed dark-sun art.
Kudo's to all the artists so far, to the rest of you, send in stuff, art, stories, poems, whatever. Me, I'm going to go back and look at the picture some more.
Heh, I liked it so much it is now my wallpaper.
Yeah, truly great stuff guys, I love to see work like this. It certainly inspires me in my own ways and the attention to detail keeps me staring at it. :-)
Thanks for sharing!

Holy crap. That's incredible. I particularily like the clawed gloves.
Whoever you are, Yume, keep up the amazing work. I'd love to see you draw some other Zalanthan stuff as well as other well-known past or even present characters.
Wow.
It's fabulous, yes. Particularly Eunoli, Aeneas, and the sky. Girl in the middle seems too defenseless and the fighters too polished and manga to be Armageddon for me (different in the concept sketch) although that might well be spot-on for the characters. So it's all well-drawn but I wouldn't want it on the first page.
Thanks for the submission!
Beautiful artwork! :)
The only reason I'd be against this appearing on the frontpage is that it also took several minutes to load. I greatly appreciate Armageddon's modem-friendly website, and would hope that this will never change. (Pretty does not always mean good)

This Arm resource page you put together is sweet. I'd like to see a link to it from our resource page, if there isn't one already.
As for the art: Well done Yume. That's great. The characters are too pretty for my perfect vision of Zalanthas, but that's just me.
For using it on the homepage: If you turned the JPG compression up and made the picture smaller, the file size would come down. Personally, I like the modem-friendly homepage of our site, but am in favor of graphical resources within. A great example is the mineral page.
That's my 2 sids.

Heh. I don't know if it's your intent to take a jab at my comment or not, but to anybody who doesn't know her she's one of two terribly cute girls flanked by strong hardy men. I certainly don't want this thread to shift from laud to argument so again, it's

Seems a bit flashy and clean, I expect even Tuluk to be a bit more
grungy.
Great artwork, though.

On reason I really liked this illustration was because to me it looks like the woman templar in the back is in some way watching over and protecting all those 'strong hardy men'. To me she doesn't look like a cute, helpless girl. She looks like a intelligent and confident woman. If anything, it made me feel that the character was seen as strong and did not require protection.

lol it's not a jab at your comment it really is a pleasure slave NPC  to me the girl at the back looks like the strongest person in the pic though not defenseless at all. I think her expression conveys both strength and wisdom.
The picture, in the JPG format, at 60% quality, which still looks exactly the same as the original, only takes 5 seconds with a 56k modem to download, so.. ;)

GAWD DANG!!!!
Keep them up.

And for those worried about bandwidth friendliness, don't worry. I am sure this is a consideration.

I'm an artist too and am thinking of doing some artwork as well. (Different races and things like that.)
As for file size, I'm on dial-up and small file sizes are great for me.
Small files are fine - but remember that lower resolution images just don't print very well. So, if it comes to publishing a magazine ad or other printed flyer for distribution (say, at Dragon*con, for example), those files probably won't be able to be used.
I'm more than happy to have more art of any kind, personally, though =)
I luuuurve arm art
Really like to see what a nilazian would be b protrayed as, think be quite intresting artist concept. Pictures so far are great.

Hot, hot shit. I'm completely enthralled that someone made such a beautiful and polished piece of artwork for the game.
Eunoli's a babe... *falls out of chair in violent laughter*
Seeing these makes Arm feel ten times cooler.
I don't know why, but I mentally picture everyone in the game as those stubby japanese sprites in games like Chrono Trigger or the early Final Fantasies.
The worst part is, I fucking hate JRPGs.

I like this one a lot, Seph. I'd normally berate anyone who uses the filters in an obvious manner but the framing is so fabulous and the hair and face so lovely. Can't you keep working on it and make the dress, smoke, lips, driplets look better?
Hahah, sure. I just picked up Photoshop. I'm still trying to figure it all out. I'm such a newb.
I feel for you, Seph. I'm now learning what can all be done with Photoshop myself.

+10 for hilarious use of halfling.

Nice work
The mantis is trying to hug the mul! EWWWWW. Awesome work!

I'd like to see more animals drawn, if anyone wants to take me up on that. :D
Quote from: "Only He Stands There"Freshly finished the Race Chart, feedback welcome as always.
I like everything except the gith. The gith seems to sylvan looking, like
a puck, except without goat feet. Giths I always felt were supposed to
look like nasty ass creatures, a little more reptilian looking, less human (or
elf, whatever).
otherwise nice stuff
I think the elf is a wee bit too shapely of limb and curvy of bust - I pictured them being a lot leaner and slimmer. Fantastic job all the same. :)
I drew the race chart and I did my best, heh. Thanks for your comments.
Everyone has a different interpretation of what each race looks like and that is mine.
Heh, it took me a long time, too. A good week of fairly continuous work.
In other words, never doing a race chart again. <g>
I wish the mantis had more arms. It's still awesome, though.
Quote from: "mansa"I wish the mantis had more arms. It's still awesome, though.
Well, he has six, but the bottom four are behind the gith.
As far as the race chart goes, terrific artwork. Love it.
But now onto Arm specifics I mostly have two things to say, first I do think the gith should be nastier then that.
Second is abit Arm abit proportions. The legs just really are two short for the rest of the body. For an elf also, I think she has too much meat. Besides the short legs, her proportions are quite human.
Oh, a third, the dwarf should be more square. I don't think they'd have such slim waists.
Sorry, fourth, three feet is the common low height for halflings ... Compared to that human female the halfling seems barely that amount. Doesn't even reach the waist ...
Anyways, I do think it's some wonderful artwork.
Wow. I like all of this stuff. A lot. The race chart is crazy!
I don't mean to come across as a dick or be harsh, but the halfling looks more like a mini-elf than like a child. Maybe a bit thicker, taller, and 'younger' looking. Other than that, I like it.
Quote from: "creeper386"As far as the race chart goes, terrific artwork. Love it.
Thank you.
Quote from: "creeper386"Second is abit Arm abit proportions. The legs just really are two short for the rest of the body. For an elf also, I think she has too much meat. Besides the short legs, her proportions are quite human.
Perhaps the proportions are a bit too human, but I'm going to disagree with you about the legs being too short for the body. I used a reference so I'm fairly confident about the leg length.
Quote from: "creeper386"Sorry, fourth, three feet is the common low height for halflings ... Compared to that human female the halfling seems barely that amount. Doesn't even reach the waist ...
While working on this, I set up a chart in the background that had been marked in increments of 12 inches, and all of the characters I made fell into the proper height ranges.
Quote from: "creeper386"As far as the race chart goes, terrific artwork. Love it.
Like creeper, I think it's great. The only thing that jars me is the dwarf's right hand - may be a quirk of shadow, but the thumb seems to be on the wrong side.
I like it! Except, the halfling is a bit too small in my opinion. They're child-sized, not fairy-sized.
Love it, really. I don't think the gith is off at all - they're humanoid after all and the "they're evil and nasty so they have to suck and look like your worst nightmare" always sucked.
Love the handsome half-giant - he's definitely the one I like best on that picture. And the scars that everyone has - and that gith tattoo.... *drools*
I have to agree with creeper about height and proportions though - the halfling seems way too small (even if I think he looks just right for anythign except size) - maybe you choose heights in the upper limit for most races and made the halfling at the lower limit? Even if the human is six feet tall, the halfling isn't even half her size and would still be under three feet - I'd go for average heights for all races.
About leg length - it didn't stick out to me at all, not now that someone said it, I noticed something, too - compare the half-elf and the elf. The elf is way taller than the half-elf, is standing on his toes and still her waist and backside are at the same height as the half-elves, if not a bit lower.
The dwarf doesn't seem that skinny to me, but the right arm seems off compared to the left one.
Still, this seems absolutely awesome - can we have this on the website? Preferrably very close to the homepage?
It is on the website, under Original Submissions, which is right off the top page.
Heh. Guys, if you think the race chart is insufficient in some way, submit your own version =)
There can be more than one.
I'm just thrilled that someone took the time and effort to create it, and then had the charity to send it to us. I sure can't draw it better.
And I figured the mantis was trying to reach the elf ;)
Bah, no mantis would give an elf reach around.
What reach around? He's trying to EAT HIS BRAINZ!
lol
Wow. What a great picture.
Little things like (in my mind) the elf being too curvy and the dwarf not being quite wide enough pale in comparison to the obvious talent here.
I especially like the various weapons.
I love it and have it bookmarked. :)
Boy I could have used this when I was playing a HG and had such trouble picturing in my mind's eye just where that dwarf or halfling's head was in relation to my hand.
So not only is it great artwork but useful too. Thanks for putting your talents to work on this Biscuit.

Hehe, I just noticed.. I had originally drawn the hand with the palm facing out toward the viewer, and then changed it and forgot to change the thumb positioning.
Oh well, I'm sure there are freakier deformities out there. <g>

<Armaddict> Ah.
<Ethean> Thanks to the Race Chart, I now predict a huge raise in HG mudsex.
<Armaddict> race chart?
<Armaddict> And HG's are unable to have sex. Unless it's gay. There are so few female hg's.
<Ethean> The neat drawing.
<Armaddict> And besides...the mudsex is just role-playing bumbling around, a few thrusts, and then confusion.
<mansa> http://www.armageddon.org/original/showSubmission.php?submission=158
<Ethean> Now I understand why my 90 days warriors can never hit a halfling.
<Armaddict> Wow!
<Armaddict> Human women should be giving HG's head all the time!
<Cegar> whoa
<Cegar> that fucking kicks ass
<Cegar> that kicks so much ass
<Cegar> Oh man
<Cegar> I think I have to change my pants
<Ethean> The halfling nibbling on the hg's ankle is awesome
<Cegar> Whoa
<Cegar> that's awesome
Yeah, I actually think the porportions are spot on. The elf's legs only look shorter because they're bent. The half-elf is spot on. The gith looks like what I always pictured gith to be. Awesome stuff.
I'll admit, I always wanted the gith to be more bestial in appearance, but from what you get in "help gith," I can't say that what's in the race chart is far off.
Quote from: "Delirium"I think the elf is a wee bit too shapely of limb and curvy of bust - I pictured them being a lot leaner and slimmer. Fantastic job all the same. :)
She might be considered a little on the plump side among elves, but not freakishly so. An elven merchant rather than an elven scout.
I think it's great. All of the figures seem to fall within the normal ranges of their races, even if they aren't necessarily the most typical examples of those races. Humans can have quite a bit of variety in terms of shape, size and colouring, presumably the other races can too.
LOVE THE CLOTHES!!! Sandcloth!
And the gith and halfling, especially.
From other Darksun work I've seen this looks pretty awesome.
I'd have to admit though,
-Dwarves nearly as thick as tall
-Mul's much beefier, like steriod freaks
-Giants are bigger, thicker etc.
- Larger hight/size difference between elves and humans. That elf looks nearly as beefy, and they are slender, slender slender.
Truly though, massively awesome looking art it is. That gith is freaking awesome, and like stated earlier, mantis have four arms.
The mul's face kinda reminds me of Patrick Stewart.
Orgasmic. I require new pants. Sancloth pants.
Hmm, had a thought today--
Doesn't Arm have a cafepress shop? And wouldn't it be sweet to have all these and advertisements on shirts/hoodies?
I'd buy one.
It could be arranged. I'm not sure about the quality of print from the cafepress T-shirts, though.
But if the artists give permission for it, I can talk to the staff and see what we can do to get it out there.
