What I tend to do when playing Arm (especially RTPs) is tossing in a song or two in loop that generally fit the theme of what's going on. If some of you do that, or could purely hypothetically imagine themselves doing it too, what music would you play and on what occassions?
To give it a start:
Before city gates (http://www.imeem.com/sbg7simoes/music/yhkrXuG9/bear-mccreary-all-along-the-watchtower/)
Black metal. Particularly more atmospheric black metal like Drudkh. Emperor is also good. Though mainly in times of peril.
Wait, best band for arming...Agalloch.
I dunno, for some reason I get a distinct black metal vibe when playing armageddon. go figure.
This! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzHbBCp6Oxc)
I usually do metal, but I have a hard time finding music for my current (non-combative) PC, so I usually play in silence.
Background music from other games, usually. Or soundtracks from movies such as 300 or Gladiator. Here's some examples:
ZALATHAS: THE SOUNDTRACK
Hunting on the Tablelands. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_oaFpjbx_Q)

Depends on the character, though. I prefer Evanescence with this one. Some might go better with Godsmack, Rainbow, Dio, Metallica. Heh, Metallica suits the Byn.
The Conan soundtrack definitely suits Zalanthas, though.

Bahahahahahaha! ;D So true.
the perfect but so undiscovered album for Zalanthas would be Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Journeys. It starts off with traditional music from Mongolia, which reminds me of what Tuluki bards might sound like, and gets progressively and progressively more arabic in style, what I'd imagine Allanak would sound like. If there is anyway to find this online or preview it, give it a try!
And I love Amon Amarth for epic battles.

I really love this thread. Now I just need to get my PC hooked up to the internetz so I can start stealing these songs for my playlist.

That's interesting. I always though of Tuluk as being a Rome-like place. It might be the fact that they like red, white, the word Legion and marble though.

Actually, I've always thought of Tuluk more Classical Greek-like than Rome-like. A cultured civilization with arts and learning (especially that one teacher instructing the children) with some aspects turned to the military but far less expansionist than Rome.
Allanak always makes me think of the golden age of Egypt.
Ofcourse they both take aspects from many different cultures, and some are unique, so I can see some Mongolian sounding bards in Tuluk :)
The Bushranger!
-- ON TOPIC: This song always reminds me of that one bar in the Rinth for some reason. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q54LJ5RsqRw)
Tuluk = Rome to me, too.
The last time I played in Tuluk I got Greece/India vibes.
Ohh, that's probably a better comparison, but the politics definitely remind me of Rome.

I'll try keeping this sort to avoid the thread from going off-topic, but, while what you're saying is true, the thing that does strike quite a bit about Tuluk is their policy of "Live as you like, but if you want our standard of life live like one of us". Then there's this whole Citizen business. The thing about Greece, that doesn't come along with Tuluk (or any place in Arm for that matter), is that it was a very liberal, free-thinking state. Free-thinkers end up dead pretty quickly in Zalanthas.
90s hip-hop and hair metal.

From above ;
Antares - Throwing down with someone IG that you cant stand or have been after, and the feeling is mutual.
Ground Zero Funk - Pretty much getting ambushed.
Formless like water - Going on a long ass ride through the desert.
Since we're talking about Final Fantasy now: http://www.imeem.com/kunto/music/GSAggD1Y/the-world-festival-symphony-orchestra-tinas-theme/
Probably one of favourite soundtracks. Not sure where it'd fit Zalanthas though. I guess a long, stormy journey from Allanak to Tuluk or something along these lines.

Crisis - Reading certain events from the history line *Cough* Dragon
Seymour battle - I just picture two mages going at it relentlessly in some place like the flats or tablelands
Wandering Flame - Everyone has those bad days.
Scorching Desert - Maybe just following the life of a tribal rolling through the desert.
Those who come closer - Hah, pretty much having that one person way you and let you know how screwed you really are, or give you some giant, life-changing news.
I think we can just as well toss the Chrono Cross soundtrack into the mix: http://www.imeem.com/secretasianman/playlist/SYqnT_XL/chrono-cross-the-complete-soundtrack-music-playlist/

Also, I suggest listening to Stones from the classic grandaddy of graphic MMO's-Ultima Online! Many many hours did I play that game...
This song invokes a peaceful and (in me) nostalgic feeling. This version, oddly enough, was composed in ANOTHER MMO called Lord of the Rings: Online. lol

I remember hours of life given to that game.
If you like Stones, try Green sleeves by Wayanay inka, and other romanesca.

The Hans Zimmer score to Gladiator has some very good examples.

Every time my characters have approached Tuluk from the western road I have imagined the score of 'To Zucchabar' thinking of all the chases, whether person hunting game, person hunting person, or game hunting person in a sad turn of events, that have occurred in the wilds around the city, and in the exotic nature of the city. I view Tuluk always through the eyes of a resident of Allanak, so it's always exotic.

I often listen to Shiva in Exile, like Nomad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ8A7_tZar4&feature=related), or Hossam Ramzy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SWQGyW9MRQ) - another good one is VAST (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImtR7Kezvr8).
I babysat for my cousin last weekend, and when I heard this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPUAhSGZtvU) I immediately wanted to play Arm. Now, whenever I hear it, Arm is the first thing I think of. It's far less death-goth-punk-metal-ish than most of the stuff that I've seen in this thread, but... duuuuunes!
I like listening to the Final Fantasy background music (For games seven through thirteen).

He sounds awfully content with his friends committing suicide by shotgun. No, what you want is friends who die like Jack Kerouac: exsanguination from esophageal varices. Now -that's- how you die from your bad habits.
