Well is it?
Nope.
Why cant I connect?
No idea. Something similar happened to me before. Once the entirety of Armageddon crashed on me. I'm talking the game, the forums, the website. Poof. Gone. Then when I finally got back into the game after like twenty minutes everybody told me that it was just me.
Yeah, not down for me neither.
It's down now, though.

Is it down now? Because it looks like it's down.
You're killing me! Right in the middle of a really good story here!
It was very much down. It's back up again, though. Bit laggy.
Edit: I suggest you people get Discord and join Armageddon's channel. Can always find out if you're the only one who crashed or not through there.
What do you mean 'you people'!
Also, I play from work, so being in Discord PROBABLY isn't a good idea.
Just went down like twice today.
Anyone know what's going on with the game..

Yeah, we're counting down to a reboot right now.

Fake News! Might have broke it but I sure as hell didn't bronk it! ;)
Seriously though, we are looking into things to try and resolve any crash issues!

I think it happens about 4 times a day during my playtimes. Small crashes, server reboots within 5minutes (and that's the longest I've seen)

We're aware and working towards a solution.
.
Who broke it?
They're rebooting it for a code fix.
Coders will always ship bugs. I created a small one today. Maybe let players run around in a test sandbox if they want?
There's also the idea of a Jenkins Continuous Integration server, altho I imagine you've got something like that running already, and that depends on having all the tests and linting all set up.
Crashers gonna crash
We are very close to having some things to deploy that should make the crashes happen less.

DEPLOY THE SPACE VESTRICS
I guess it wasn't just me then...
By the way, on the /old/ armageddon page, you can see uptime.
http://old.armageddon.org/
Scroll down towards the bottom.
I have a script that monitors this and logs me in, sells my hides, then logs out whenever there's a reboot.

Won't do you much good, I have an NPC that does the same, and it has no movement lag.
Script Noob! Mine runs me form outpost to outpost (on an erdlu so I outrun aggros), resting my mount in room away from aggro spawn points, buy lows and sells high. This runs for about three game days, then returns me to Luir's, deposits the coins, and sends me to the spice den to buy a bottle of whiskey, roll some tho' and rent a whore to celebrate with. After all the crashes last week, I'm sitting on about 600,000 obsidian coins in my Nenyuk account and my character now has sandfleas and possibly a case of crotch-rot. Thug-lyfe, merchant style.
Mine barters them down to 0 just to troll people. I ain't in it for the sid.

The crashes and consequences of said crashes got frustrating enough that my logged in time took a really big nosedive. I'm looking forward to things getting sorted. Thanks to the staff-folk working on getting things more stable.

As frustrating as it is for you all I can assure you we find it as frustrating or maybe even more so (hello reimbursement requests)! I have been working hard to get a reasonable patch ready ASAP but there are some other mitigating circumstances that are slowing the release. I think I am at a place where I can run my test plans again but it took way more coding than expected. I hope to get the last of the bugs worked out shortly. We believe that there are three distinct bugs that can crash us that will be resolved. Please bear with us as we get this all sorted!
Or is it just my connection?
Its down for me too.

Armageddon last booted 30 seconds ago.
Except... I've been logged in for a solid 10 minutes with no interruption.
SEAMLESS REBOOTS!?

If only we could do seamless reboots!
I can only assume you are getting that from old.armageddon.org. As the name states, it is old and not maintained at all. Current uptime is 03:17:25 after the maint. reboot and release this morning so it's clearly just reporting improperly.
Aw. Its usually PRETTY accurate.
I was kind of hoping there was somehow a method of integrating code without a reboot. Though at that point, the Merchant Class would become super-nerfed. ;)

Yeah, I totally see what I did there. Minor misstep with my reboot procedure this morning. Should be all back to normal now!

Someone grab the tar.. I got the feathers.
Seems like it's rebooting every 40 seconds, so I think whatever happened killed it dead until the coders can get at it.

Apparently Katima was eating a gaspy when she decided to chase someone, and she was wearing bandages. It's devastating.
The silence, staff-side, is disconcerting.
Isn't it like midnight on a Sunday or something there in the USA? Not that disconcerting.
It went down about 3 hours ago, roughly around 9:30GMT, Monday. Oh well. It'll be fixed when it's fixed.
Yep. Those of us about at this sort of time. Aren't the sort of Staff who can do anything about this I am afraid.
Patience till the Coders get a chance to look is the only option.

Correct. Looking at it now. I am going to take a short while to try and troubleshoot the problem then I'll get the game back up.
Stay tuned.
This was the result of a 15 year old bug that only crops up every 2-3 years. A lot of thanks to Nathvaan for quickly tackling it and finding a solution.

Wow, great job, guys! But now I'm curious as to what kind of bug pops up only every few years and why.

Are you saying you've actually NAMED the aforementioned bug "the Fisher King" bug?
Basically. Once every three, or four years, my character manages to survive past day 15. This downs the server as Ginka is not used to this occurring. Nathvaan just killed my character and everything works just fine.

True story. RIP Amos Cofefe McCrashington. You will be missed for a few more years!
Really though it has to do with some behavior that happens VERY rarely and puts some additional character in some save files. When that ever increases past a maximum string value it cause the file to be improperly parsed and prevents booting.
Calcification of the left anterior heat vents and partial blockage of the substrate mucous membrane.
