Title: This was an awesome HRPT
Post by: Dresan on July 29, 2013, 12:53:34 AM
The best part about this HRPT for me was not was the actual experiences the players got to enjoy today but that finally the story wheels of the game have finally started movng again in a wonderful direction.

What happened in this HRPT to me felt so long over due, for the longest time i've felt that gypsy lands which all their rumored richness should have been taken over by a city state and/or just opened up to the general playerbase.  I remember having characters that wondered about that YEARS ago. I think what occured to the lands (which is now common knowledge) was just another perfect solution. Kudos to the staff or staff members that made this happen because it just made so much sense.

What happened today was really just one of the things i really wanted to see happen in the game. It is right up there on my list of things i want to see happen in the game, right beside the removal of all powerful sorcerer kings and making the tablelands becoming explorable march or jungle, forcing elves and tribes inward in the scrub and red desert.

I truely believe this HRPT will open the door to more RP opportunities as well. The last HRPT made the world much richer in my opinion to play in with the removal of halflings and introduction of kryl just to name a few things. I think this HRPT has truely done the same.

Once again Kudos to the staff. I can't wait to see what happens in the world next.

I'm fairly sure Tek only lets his soldiers go to war as a bit of entertainment. "Aight, I've had my fun, time to do something about that bloody molehill I've had in my back yard all these years.."

Come on Martha, pack up da fire elementals, where moving.

I"ve booked a flight with Air Tek on the Black dragon  at 4:55

Don't forget we have to get there an hour early to check our volcano at the bagage handling.

At least the movers will have the place in bloody order for our arrival.

Hands down their a cut above the rest.

Their work is almost magical.

Got a good deal on it too, from some Gypos, mostly because its in a bad neighborhood. You know the one with all those funny talking tree huggers.

I just wonder how those nakkis define winning....

Twenty nakkis leave with a bomb...one returns, but the bomb killed a Templar.

The nakki reports "WE WON!"

For those trying to figure out who won, don't forget about virtual numbers, and exactly what each side did jut before the neighborhood got a tad warmer.

Awesome HRPT, and I'm very excited about the direction the game is going.

I am also excited about gypsies getting to play gypsies again. I love their history and culture, but Tyn Dashra was just too cozy and isolated.

I like to think Allanak won. Sure, they didn't get what they wanted, but nobody else got it either, cause fuck you, if Allanak ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

On top of that, they managed to get rid of a pesky volcano outside their walls and TEK SARAK.

*disclaimer: Unapologetic Allanaki fanboy, cause Allanak is the best city.

Both sides won, both sides lost, neither side realizes it.

Come on folks, this is Armageddon. Murder, Corruption, Betrayal. If it was straight forward, it wouldn't be Arm.

I too really enjoyed this HRPT. It was not as flamboyant as the last one with the golems and floodings and stuff like that but I found this one to be more RP driven and had a story to it, which I very much more prefer. This means more opportunities for rp to fulfill this new storyline and I'm excited about that.

You can make a case that Tuluk lost, but you really cannot make a case that Allanak lost.

If you read the post there's fertile land sitting right outside Allanak now.

Fertile land or not, there's really no downside to no longer having a volcano sitting on your front porch.
Title: Re: This was an awesome HRPT
Post by: X-D on July 29, 2013, 09:25:05 AM
Well, I think you need break it down. Between winning and success. Allanak, surely at least partly successful....but at what cost? Did Tuluk Cost them more for that success then Tuluk lost or was it even...etc etc.

I have to think of WWII, The brits come up with a plan to blow up german dams.  They send a crap load of bombers...in the end most the bombers were lost. So, the germans won...but the mission was successful.

(edit) The Muark lost though...but I think like many that is a win for the game and the players...finally they might get to actually be gypsies.

There is no winning side just yet.

This is the point of this HRPT.  There is a volcano in a new spot and soil near Allanak where there was once none.  Could this help in the long run for Allanak and the war to come?  More food for its soldiers?

What about the road connecting the cities?  How badly is it blocked?

Allanak and Tuluk are at war.  The winner is yet to be determined.  This is the most exciting part about all of this!  I read about the Copper Wars and I wonder of all the cool sub-plots within plots that happen and I now might have a chance to be a part of it!

With my new character  :P

The volcano's movement is a pretty awesome development. I'm wondering if it means 'nak gets food and Tuluk gets easy obsidian/magma, now? What will the volcano do to the local forest? FIRE KRYL?!

The general trend I've seen in the past few years is that Allanak always achieves its objective but loses more PCs doing it than Tuluk does retreating.

Pretty sure it a Player win because now we get a prolonged war that all have a chance to be apart of in many different fashions.

If you want to break it down:

Pretty light vs, M.F. Dragon of DOOM! = Dragon

Gain of water slide enclosure and positioning v.s rid of Volcano and gain of fertile land = breaking even

Loss of generals vs Loss of Generals = Nak

Loss of soldiers, north vs. loss of soldiers, south= North

Loss of gickers, south vs north = North (north has none)

Loss of gypies vs south= South

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By my count 3 to the south and 2 to the north

Tactical withdrawal.

Now I wonder was the withdraw called before or after the M.F. Volcano was dropped on the M.F. gypsy  lands.

I think calling back your troops as the Big V.D. (volcano of doom) was dropped,is an arguable as a point of withdraw to be winning.

Awesome HRPT no doubt - and very well planned out - realistic as well!

Finally conflict returns to Zalanthas on a global scale - and everyone will be happy!

Nothing motivates an economy like war :)

Now, let the war games begin!

Getting real close to sensitive stuff there.

I was going to post a long post giving a rundown of how both sides can legitimately claim victory, then I decided it's not the place for it. Instead, I will toss a huge Thank You to the staff involved, and once again claim in my shamelessly biased opinion that the South won by way of achieving all objectives set out.  :P

Retreat? Bah, tactical withdrawal!  :D
Troop loss? Who cares, more where they came from! (although some of the PCs lost on both sides  :'( )
Defeat? Sorry, I can't hear you over the volcano the Highlord just dropped on your head!  ;D

All joking aside though, I've never had so much fun as during the HRPT. Big thank you to staff.

Fertile lands vs Volcano= might potentially be a BIG tuluki win. But more importantly a huge player win.

Tuluk with a potential obsidian resource?  Hmmm.

Still, I think its in the player's hands now.  :)

If your post is about an IC thing that happened in the HRPT and your post starts out with "from what I recall," it doesn't matter if you're recalling correctly or not--you shouldn't post it!  :)

I really had fun and enjoyed the HRPT. Even though my eyes got screen burn from watching my computer for several hours straight and the scrolling was really bad at times I enjoyed it and I think I grew through the experience.

em ducks and covers

Sorry... Seems to be a very fine line between what can be posted and can't be posted. I've seen other posts here talking about stuff that must have been seen IC and got confused and kind of caught up in the whole thing. I'll remember not to do this in the future.

Seriously.

The staff announcements post says in the most clear manner possible "war has begun". You'd think people ITT never heard the phrase "won the battle, but lost the war" (or the other way around).

This is what lots of players wanted! An open war between the main cities and the ability to actually affect world-wide plots. There were threads popping up for the past year or two talking about this desire from the playerbase, and they got it.

Can't we just bet that instead of one city winning or the other, that all the players will have a good time?

There's speculation and stuff and honestly we're being more lenient than we usually are because people are excited.  I am excited, too.  It's nice to be acting (and still acting) on the things put in motion 9 months ago.

As feedback I'd really like to see the stack of doom battles go away in the future.

Players should be scattered across multiple rooms fighting NPCs or assisting other NPCs; the players eventually meet face to face and fight each other.

I know it's harder to do than describe but I really dislike the stack of doom system I experienced in this HRPT. Anything would be an improvement.

We know big battles aren't ideal.  We have first hand experience. If we can come up with a better method we will, thanks.

And for now let's stop all speculation over the IC details.  It's been fun guys, but let's keep it IC.

The truth is that the 'real story' might never be known by most of you.  There's always going to be different stories.

- What Allanak says
- What Tuluk says
- What Amos says

and so on.  Then there's what staff know, and usually what you all think is mostly wrong ;)

The real result of the HRPT - the world has changed. It just got hot in here.  And what opportunities are there going to be now??

Keep on playing folks.  We've said it before, but I'll say it again.  This is just the beginning. You're about to be part of the Armageddon Golden Age (where golden stands for blood and murder, corruption and betrayal).

Honestly from all the posts I've seen it would seem like this win went to the Staff. They pulled off a really good HRPT that will lead to several really nice RP opportunities.
