I'm thinking the imms have been watching a little too much porn.     At least my email gets spammed after downloading the goods.

I removed a bunch of spambot logins, which it seems like we're getting a wave of lately.  I've tried to block some of it, but be aware that as a result you will have trouble creating login names like HotNudeGirl.  Tthis does not mean go poke to see what's allowed and what's not, we've got enough spam already, so if you're one of the people who love to poke at the GDB, just don't.

If your login got removed by mistake, let me know.  I left a lot of iffy or innocuous ones.

I'm actually getting mostly poker bots on my forums. I've let them run wild since they can't post, just create names.

I'm going to try the disallow names feature and see how it works.

*nod*  I disallowed a couple of the casino and poker ones too.  Brix said he'll look at  messing around to block these this weekend.

Here's what I'm thinking about doing.

Put something in the posting guidelines indicating that we charge for advertising on this board and add something to the registration page that says "By creating a login, you are agreeing to our guidelines".  Then amuse myself sending hefty invoices to the owners of these sites.

That's awesome.

I'm sure we have some lawyer players that can offer their advice and expertise with legalese.

Yeah but what if they pay?  You gonna put up banners?

hahah no. The deal is that all they get is the advertised link in their GDB name.

I think a straight fee would be fair, that way we don't have to bother with tracking clicks.

That's actually the best idea ever. Think of what Armageddon could do with a few corporate sponsorships and some advertising! We'd get better hardware, the staff could get paid...

Why even stop with the GDB? Just sell advertising straight in game. I'm sure after a while we'd all get used to Niketown in the Allanaki Bazaar, or Crystal Pepsi becoming the Official Beverage of the Lirathan Templarate (it's impossible to find -- just like you're about to be!)

Tek might even sell out and slap a big old McDonalds logo up on top of the arena. For every elf that gets its head bit off by the Gaj, the crowd gets a free Big Mac.

Greenpeace would love Tuluk. Fashion companies could use Kadius to test out how their newest styles look in text form... endless possibilities.

I see no problems with any of this at all.

I wish we could get a revue in PCGamer.  We'd instantly have like 1000 more players.

I doubt PC Gamer would ever do a full review of a MUD, but it wouldn't be too hard to get the game mentioned in the fan mail section, or even a mention in one of the special interest articles.  They've done so before.

The e-mail was sent like 5 minutes after I posted, he'll probably call my crazy for recommending them to do a mud, but hey, why not try.

I've seen PC gamer do a MUD special once.

Once.

:(

Gotta figure, though, there are TONS of mudders out there.

I love muds and all, but it's no where near front cover material.

Doesn't really matter if it gets front page.  Just think, if it gets a the tiniest mention you have to figure that a thousand people (a very conservative estimate) would read it.  Out of those thousand, maybe a hundred will visit the website.  Out of those hundred, maybe only ten will end up playing regularly.  Ten players may not seem like much, but it is.  And as I said, those figures may be a bit conservative...

You never know, and there's no harm in trying.

Actually, as much as I love our Imms, and as hard as I'm sure they work, I, personally, would prefer that they were not payed...

Now... before you use the instacrucify command on me, let me explain. As it stands, our beloved Imms, are Immortals simply because they are in love with Armageddon, as are the rest of us. However, should the Imms be given a salary, it seems to me that, true there would be increased competition, but it would be for the money. Not at first perhaps, but after a while, that's what would happen. Now, again, I'm sure if I were spending several hours out of my day working on a game for other people to enjoy it, pay would be a very nice benefit, but I just like our Imms being our Imms because they love being Imms.

I really hope you don't think I actually meant that. Read the rest of the post. It was sarcasm.
