Exactly. Everyone knows that stillborn children happen due to proximity to gemmers. You're actually telling us that booze is bad for my kid? Vennant, get that dipshit out of here, he's chasing away your customers.

"Its booze and spice that got me in this condition,
Its booze and spice that's gonna get me through it."

Much as it makes me ill when PCs drink while pregnant, I can't really escape the fact that the taboo against it is distinctly modern (as in, 20th century).

The earliest reference I could find to alcohol being harmful to fetuses at all only goes back to the 1700's, when apparently lifting a tax on gin caused a huge surge in drinking among women and then a noticeable increase in birth defects.

Given the primitive state of Zalanthan medicine, the high levels of superstitions, and the fact that there are things that cause much more dramatic birth defects than alcohol, I suspect most Zalanthan societies do not consider drinking during pregnancy to be harmful.

I totally have seen a heavily pregnant tribal get greviously gored by a carru in the stomach and not even rp it. It is hard to tell what is complaintable some times. One thing is for certain, Zalanthas needs more crack babies. Be the change people.

With the entire possibility of mutant births I would think Spice (in the very least) might be something viewed as bad to use while preggo. Personally I try to react realistically while rping a pregnancy. I find it equally cringe worthy when a pc ready to pop goes and gets torn up hunting and magically the baby is fine. Its not realistic at all and yes its bad RP. I will judge you!  :P  Again I am highly in favor of coded STD's and pregnancy.
The sound of a thunderous explosion tears through the air and blasts waves of pressure ripple through the ground.

Looking northward, the rugged, stubble-bearded templar asks you, in sirihish:
     "Well... I think it worked...?"

If y'all get mek'd in the leg and are pregnant, baby ded. That's huge trauma dammit.

Half-giants magickly absorb brain damage from drug use.  It's why they were created in the first place, and why everybody is so healthy.

+1

Also after it's born. Babies bite and poop and pull hair and scream at embarrassing inappropriate times. I had a vnpc child try to yank on Tuluki templars once and get escorted away by the Legion to save my ass. Babies don't care. No more perfect children that never cry or barf on people or get pissed at strangers or at take huge craps in the middle of a crowded bar, that you then ignore because you're drunk with a baby like everyone else because everyone know kumiss is health food.

The horror of children is what makes them children. It's also really fun. I swear to god it is.

Next time you let someone hold you VNPC baby, have them vomit immediately or start screaming bloody murder and tell me it was boring.

Back on topic of OP: Spice and booze prolly still affect babies we just lack the science to know it and prolly more likely to blame magick or some such. Ergo babies I think should be more crazy/agitated/difficult. Contextual of course but it's much more interesting and engaging to have a kiddo that cries all the time and blame it on the moons than baby Talia always smiles. IMHO.
You begin searching the area intently.
You look around, but don't find any large wood.
You think: "Story of my life."

Bring on the mutants!

yea this whole line of reasoning feels like alot like 20th century misogyny and pregnant-woman shaming/judging bleeding into the game and not like anything it would be reasonable for a zalanthan to think.

this is like barely a step above the male characters who pretend like all female characters are intrinsically weaker than then.

I could see someone giving someone shit for drinking while pregnant, not because the booze will hurt the kid but because the drunk code makes you fall over /constantly/, and there's only so many times you can fall over without knocking something loose.

RE: spice: Smoke 'em if you gottem.

Edited to add: Please fix the drunk code so you aren't falling over all the goddamn time. I've never fallen over due to being drunk irl, and I've been blackout drunk several times.
First the sweet, then the heat.
