Ideas

The Pawnee believed that the sun, moon and stars were their gods, and were chiefly hunters with a little bit of farming. The oldest woman was the leader of the household, although the council for the whole tribe was made up of men, and the leader of each tribal unit was a man, who would pass down his position to a worthy son. Proving yourself to be a worthy chief required proving your patience and wisdom among other things, and chiefs were expected to speak quietly and confidently.

The Inuit usually only carried their necessities with them (and maybe a small statutette or two) as they were highly mobile and most of their diet was the meat and fish hunters brought in. Some of their quarry would move south for the winter (although the book doesn't state that they followed it.) To have pulled off a successful bear hunt was the ultimate mark of bravery and skill. There were no official leaders, although when a conundrum appeared they may go to the best hunter in the tribe so he would help fix it. It was considered bad luck for a woman to touch a weapon.

This sensual girl has large blue eyes that are like two windows on the afternoon sky. Her luxurious, curly, medium-length hair is the color of ripe cherries, and is worn in an elegant style. She has a muscular build. Her skin is white. She has a hooked nose and prominent cheekbones. Her wardrobe is severe and no-nonsense, with a completely brown color scheme.

This boorish woman has almond-shaped night-black eyes. Her fine, wavy, brown hair is waist-length and is worn in a bizarre style. She is very short and has a plump build. Her skin is nut-brown. She has a pointed chin. Her wardrobe is professional and plain, with a mostly white and black color scheme.

This sneaky girl has almond-shaped brown eyes. Her thick, wavy, white hair is worn in a style that reminds you of an overused mop. She is very tall and has a plump build. Her skin is chocolate-brown. She has bushy eyebrows. Her wardrobe is weird.

This man reminds you of a precise clock. He has slitted black eyes that are like two cups of black coffee. His fine, curly, midnight black hair is worn in a style that reminds you of a pennant blowing in the wind. He is short and has a masculine build. His skin is ruddy. He has a small mouth. His wardrobe is artistic, and is completely blue.

Be that guy. The dwarf who wants to make and wear a suit made of human skin.

Or the elf who gets off on causing hell for as many humans as possible for as long as possible. Smart, sneaky, and occasionally seductive. Then you manifest as a ruk empowerment/krathi devastation. Obviously, you don't take the gem, you seclude yourself for a few days and then start raising even more hell. As things inevitably close in on you, you decide to end it all by going into the Gaj at a busy time and just start lobbing fireballs at everything that is alive and not an elf.

Try a new crafting skill you haven't really done before. I've never done armorcrafting, myself. The way the game is set up its usually better to be either a hunter, clanned or well-connected to be an armorcrafter so I've not really done it before.

I've tried weaponscrafter, which is pretty cool. It lets you do something besides making knives, which the game economy tends to be glutted with.

The rinthi gemmed has been pulled off pretty successfully. Its an interesting concept, the idea of being forced to serve the city that you've been taught to hate/ignore religiously and that has been oppressing you especially more than average all your life.

Give yourself a challenge; an elven or half-elven merchant/noncombative subguild with the burning desire to become a great warrior. Its possible to be good, I don't know if its possible to be great.

A dwarf whose goal is to die by falling into the hole northeast of Allanak. Eat, drink and talk at the tavern, salt for your armor and food and water, think about it all the time. Be cowardly, unable to truly go through with it. Head to the hole and think about it some more. Have it having consumed you since you could put thoughts together, as it is with all dwarven goals.

Jump into the hole a couple of times, but spam 'up' so that your cowardice has you catch the cliff and climb back up. Have a backstory, a tragic one as to the tragic events that led to you making this your goal. Your life has changed since then and you want to live. You switch gears slightly after a while and start thinking about life and death. And then, finally, you fall in and don't spam up.

I like the thread of Ideas to give someone a spark who is looking for something, but I wanted to touch on this one specifically because its not really how a dwarven focus would work. I have provided the help file on focus and pointed out a very specific part of it. It is for that reason that should someone make a dwarf with that focus they would probably learn everything they can about that hole, all the angles, research it to find the best falling point and landing spot. Once he knows he would without a doubt die, since dying in the hole with broken legs without food and water is against the focus of dying by falling in, he would just fall without hesitation.

From the help file:
The dwarven focus is a single, overwhelming goal which motivates every thought and action in a dwarf's life. A dwarf may do things unrelated to the focus - but it will always be at the back of their head, nagging them. A dwarf will never do something contrary to their focus, ever. A dwarf likely does not refer to their focus in terms of "this is my focus." To them, it is entirely natural; the focus is what it means to be alive. The focus is not bothersome or alien to the dwarf at all. Dwarves would begin thinking that all beings are dominated by this same drive. If and when a dwarf discovers that others do not share this focus, they will probably become alienated and possibly acquire a distaste for all non-dwarves - although the interpretation and extent of this alienation and distaste depends on a dwarf's individual personality.

Your focus should be grounded in the history and personality of your character. Since a focus is not an alien presence that comes upon a dwarf, but rather a natural feeling that is inseparable from them, the nature of their focus should arise from what comes naturally to them. Also, as a general rule, a focus should neither be impossible nor easy - but rather, something that is possibly attainable over a long period of time if it is worked hard upon. The focus should be something your character is not close to achieving - the point of it is that you have to play through the attainment of the focus. This is a general rule and, in rare cases, foci which are either impossible, or attainable more quickly, may be appropriate.

This might be picking nits but...

Every time someone posts actual character concepts, it means no one can play any of them. Why? Because as soon as you do, the information is already on the GDB, which makes it IC info that everyone now knows about. You posted the spoiler before ever creating the character.

If you have great ideas, PLAY THEM. Don't tell everyone about them on the GDB.

I imagine you could get away with playing one of these years later with some alterations, after the thread is buried.

The likelihood of someone linking your character to a GDB idea post and suddenly knowing all your secrets and secondly even having that knowledge negatively effect your character is super low, even if you completely cookie cuttered the GDB.

I dont know how someone knowing you're the:

- depressed police officer who has to be better than anyone else.

is going to negatively effect your character.
"Everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother."

"Do not become addicted to water, it will take hold of you and you will resent its absence."

Because like it or not, there are players who will take that information they learn outside the game, and use it in the game. Someone posting "Hey - I love that idea!" - well now they know what to look for if we ever see that player's name show up on a clan forum. You want to rise in the ranks? Make that depressed police officer member of the Militia fail, constantly, until he feels so humiliated for "not being better than everyone else" that he jumps off a cliff or gets roleplayed into a corner and the player stores him. Then he can send a complaint that you knew he was a depressed police officer who has to be better than everyone else, and blame it on you rather than him pointing out how wonderful the idea was on the GDB, thus giving everyone who read it a head's up - including people who would like nothing better than to exploit information they learn about OOCly.

Because yes, those people exist. And no, I don't think we need to provide them with any more fuel.

I am sure some people would, Lizzie, but you don't have to play them. You might as well tell every writer to stop writing as well because I am sure many people get their ideas from books too and someone else would have read the same book. Many posts over the years have sprung up of random ideas and anyone that has been around long enough ends up seeing a lot of the same ideas resurface several times. There is always another Amos who really wants to become the most well known Amos ever. Giving newbies or others a little idea to go off of when they are just hitting a brick wall for whatever reason is great. I would hope someone would take the idea and grow off of it and make it their own.

So in adding to the ideas:
A character who refuses to eat any meat.
A rich merchant who goes to beg for coins at night just because he did it as a child.

I've been thinking about it myself. There's a certain clan I have in mind. Maybe when my current dies.
