Player/Staff Chat: August 2014

We held the last player/staff meeting in early 2013.  (Transcript here.)  Since then, a lot has changed--a new website, an HRPT, all kinds of stuff.  We want to do another one of these meetings if possible.

I put up some dates that would probably work.  The day (Saturday) is chosen to accommodate the most players; the start time (between 5 and 6 pm) is chosen for the same reasons.  If you can't make it, there will be a transcript provided afterwards.

This would be a bit similar to last time, except we'd be using Teamspeak and the Staff Teamspeak server.  As before, it'll be pretty much a Q and A format, more of a panel.  Players ask questions, staff answer them, etc.  If there's time or a specific topic or something, we might can go over that, we'll see!  Vote and let us know which date works best.

Other stuff to keep in mind:

• Check the GDB and docs before coming up with any questions you want to ask or things you want us to briefly discuss.  If it has already been asked and answered elsewhere, it might be best to ask something different.  If you are looking for clarification or elaboration beyond a specific response, you might want to reference it when asking so that we know what it is you want us to elaborate on.
• With (possibly) a lot of attending players, that makes for (possibly) some of the same questions.  Have a couple of backup questions!

You would need to have Teamspeak.  We'll provide the address for it on the day of and open it up for everyone beforehand.

Still seems high... I'd expect about 200 to 50 depending on quality. If you're able to make it accessible to me, I can give compression a go? Size hinges on bitrate and algorithm so it can be hit and miss.

Or alternatively, I'll post what I'd do:
* MP3 or Ogg Vorbis algorithm
* Mono instead of Stereo, if in stereo (it's microphone chatter)
* 22 KHz sampling, it's voice anyway.
* 80 - 128kbps bitrate so it's not too uncomfortable to listen to for a while.

It was really great hearing all the questions and staff's answers as well as thoughts. These sorts of behind the scenes Q&As, along with the podcasts from Sanvean and Nyr, have always been interesting!

I might as well leave the link up until it's posted elsewhere. Soundcloud is annoyingly not an option because it's 30 mins over the allowed free account time. It'd be hard to find an audio host that'll do it for nothing, but a file host might do it for nothing (hence why I slapped it on Mega)
