The Tuluk vs. Allanak Thread (get your rivalry on!).

Started by Molten Heart, March 11, 2014, 01:35:34 PM

Though I could be persuade to believe in that sentiment, Tuluk has been in such a state for longer than I have been playing, or any of its PC's have even been alive.

In a similar vein, that kind of statement implies Allanak itself has taken a decade at least to become good, too. It might have, but I doubt it.

Regardless, I feel Tuluk is changing more because of its impopularity than because it is unfinished somehow. It in no way has less features than Allanak does.

I favor buttdickton because preconceived notions of gritty, dangerous, hardcoregasm and outdated myopic machismo.

I favor herp derp.

How come that isn't an option?
Now you're looking for the secret. But you won't find it because of course, you're not really looking. You don't really want to work it out. You want to be fooled.

I strongly, strongly prefer Allanak. However, Tuluk has its merits, it just doesn't appeal to the way I like to play.

It is....

It just reads as "Tuluk", it's the first one there on the list.

Allanak: Murder, Corruption, Betrayal
Tuluk: Bards, Hunters, Delusions

Poll results speak for themselves.  Tuluk isn't Armageddon, Tuluk is the result of prior not knowing how to create conflict.

It isn't fair to compare Tuluk to Allanak though.

Tuluk hasn't existed in its current incarnation for nearly as long as Allanak has. Tuluk in a lot of ways is still "building its self", both literally and "society" wise.

Staff is working on morphing a fair bit of the culture in that area right now as I understand it.

Allanak has had a much longer time to establish, implement, and solidify its current atmosphere.

Sure it is. They're the only two city states, the have the biggest population.

This thread isn't about what we can do to fix/change Tuluk though, it's about which one players prefer. Allanak is Armageddon, the Dragon and all the foes it crushes to keep its domain.  I prefer Allanak, so do lots of people on the GDB apparently!

I'm taking an indeterminate break from Armageddon for the foreseeable future and thereby am not available for mudsex.

I edited my post since your quote btw.

Also, you are the Highlurd Tektrollness with this post. So much win.  ;D

Allanak's great and all, and nobody disputes that, but Muk would kick Tek's ass in a fight.

I voted for Tuluk because there is no "both" option and because of how skewed the poll results are.

Also, because years and years of Allanak fans saying Tuluk is full of noobs, poor players, skillers, mudsexers, isn't harsh enough, doesn't fit into the gameworld, and should simply be destroyed... and yet the playerbase is distributed pretty evenly between north and south most of the time. Being loud doesn't necessarily mean being right, after all...

It's cool if you like Allanak because it caters more to your playstyle, though. That is understandable. It used to be the only city for me too. Then I tried Tuluk and decided I like both cities. And I don't really care that the aforementioned complaints about Tuluk end up here. I personally hope that this thread will serve as a containment area for that particular circle-jerk.

I voted Tuluk even though it has changed a lot since I started playing. I miss the crater. I miss the halflings scaring everyone. I remember one time when a halfling actually came into the gates and tried to talk to people. Those were the days.

Currently, I'm getting more and more baffled at Tuluk, but I hate Allanak with a passion. So I'm willing to hold it out and see where all the changes lead.

I enjoy the culture of Tuluk, the art, the bond everyone has to everyone else. I hate the savagery of Allanak and having no culture and only hoping one day that Tek won't stomp on you as being the one main thing to live for.

I think if your thing is constant action, then Allanak is probably better. However, constant action isn't always good. Sometimes it gets pretty irritating that everyone around you dies in a few days, or that people are constantly forming and reforming vendettas and starting shit. Sometimes I'm in the mood for it, other times I'm really not at all.

In general, when I have high playtimes, I love Allanak. I can keep up with the pace of the goings on and feel like I am having an impact.

In general, when I play combat roles, I prefer Allanak but this isn't always the case. I love my northern combatants too.

There are exceptions for me to the above. There are always exceptions when you've played as many PCs as I have. But if I try to analyze how or why I feel this or that way, that's my best guess when only spending 2 minutes making a post about it.

I didn't vote in the poll. I have played equal characters in neither city, one, or the other. I have great memories from all locales. It'd be silly for me to plink my vote in Tuluk just because I do happen to like it sometimes, because that's not accurate.

If the poll results look horribly uneven, then I think that's just accurate to the GDB population, though, as Cutthroat said. Sadly, one might extrapolate that there are more newbies in Tuluk, which might be true but I don't think so. I just think that Tuluk fans are subtle about it. Like me.

Luir's and Kurac are probably my all time favorites.  Someone should make a Kuraci that looks like Bruce Campbell.

Luir's is almost a boring as Red Storm. I like people to interact with but not always in the mood of constant action. Maybe that's why I like Tuluk as well as the culture and the history and the fact the fear isn't what bonds people together.

Luir's is rarely boring.

But it's also what you make of it, I reckon.

Even if people have been scared into believing the big magicker in the sky is looking out for every one of them, even the little half-elf street urchins, isn't it still fear that's bonding everyone together at the most base level? Ultimately, the guys with the most power to magickally kill, maim, and blow stuff up have authority in both cities. This is not a coincidence.

There's been about a million of these threads, and they still don't accomplish much.

Some people prefer Allanak.

Some people prefer Tuluk.

yay.
