Normal Weather:

Crescent Dunes [N, E, S, W]
Tall crescent dunes arch to the northeast, each more than ten cords in
height, with one slope leading upward very slightly while the other plunges
down sharply. The dunes consist of light, almost slippery sand, liable to
cause the most sure-footed to slip and slide down the crest. The sun hangs
soundlessly in the sky above, sending its light and heat onto the sands.
A large black tent sits at the center of a tiny campsite.
A large yellow bag leans against the tent.
A lit campfire sits before the tent's flap.
The massive dwarf is standing here, looking a bit winded.
The tall and thin figure in a dusty white-shouldered, black longcloak is standing here.
The hunched, white-maned half-giant is standing here.
A hulking red beetle is reclining here, looking a bit winded.
A sleek spike-crested beetle is reclining here, looking a bit winded.
A grey-horned, tan-furred ox is reclining here, looking tired.
An inix is reclining here, looking a bit winded.

Conditions where currently you get the "sand whips about you" message, which is not the same as the "you stumble around and lose your bearings" message:

Crescent Dunes [N, E, S, W]
It is too dark to notice much about this area.
Something sits at the center of a tiny campsite.
Something leans against the tent.
A lit campfire sits before the tent's flap.
The short, thick figure is standing here, looking a bit winded.
The tall and thin figure in a dusty white-shouldered, black longcloak is standing here.
The gigantic and obese figure is standing here.
A gigantic and obese figure is reclining here, looking a bit winded.
An obese figure is reclining here, looking a bit winded.
A very tall and obese figure is reclining here, looking tired.
An gigantic and obese figure is reclining here, looking a bit winded.

Then, for those times when it is too dark to target stuff to emote, leave it the way it is.

You accidentally snap newbie into useless pieces.

I dig this for realism.

You could also make the direction sense skill give you a chance to make out your surroundings in the harshest conditions at higher levels.

Good idea though.

I like it, and Cutthroat's addition. Only one caveat: players need to use names/nicknames more, keywords less. This is already a problem when a group of people who know each other are in the same spot and there's no wind at all. Obviously if you don't know someone you'll use a keyword from their sdesc and hope for the best.

Weather should also hinder your ability to see hidden PC/NPC's.
I am unable to respond to PMs sent on the GDB. If you want to send me something, please send it to my email.

This may already be the case, I don't know.

If it isn't the case, it should be.

I've always thought this myself.

The young daughter has been filled.

I dig those additions also!  For the same reason!

I too believe it already does, which is a pity, as hide/sneak are already insanely powerful skills.

I love this idea.  It uses the sized figure code that we're already familiar with and applies it to an existing situation where it would be appropriate.  Pretty much the definition of elegance.

+1

Honestly, I think having the right equipment should be the biggest contributor to wilderness hiding and bad weather should make it even harder to see people if it doesn't already.

Derail: In the real world, it's actually hard to spot people in full camo even when they're not moving, unless you're looking hard.  Moving stealthily, on the other hand, is something that should take high skill and, in some cases, be impossible.  I'm all for making sneaking a harder and hiding a bit easier, because I think that would be more realistic. :/Derail

I'm absolutely certain that bad weather makes it harder to spot hidden PCs.  Unhidden PCs, too.

No extra code required.
Any questions, comments, or condemnations to an eternity of fiery torment?

Waving a hammer, the irate, seething crafter says, in rage-accented sirihish :
"Be impressed.  Now!"

This would amp up my enjoyment of the game by like 100%
