Discussion of Changes to ArmageddonMUD

Please keep discussion on the announced change to this thread.  As always we appreciate people being civil.  We'd like to hear your feedback on these new changes that we will be implementing over the next 2 months. Thanks!

* Due to complaints of a legal nature we will be shifting our game focus to ensure that it is a safer and more predictable environment for those concerned.  More specifically we are declaring a moratorium on roleplay of a sexual nature.  Relationship storylines may still be pursued in game but should in no way, shape or form involve extensive nudity or sexual interaction. Violence at the coded level is allowed but in depth torture scenes should be Fade to Black.

It's changes like these that are now making me take all sexual roleplay of any kind with others to Skype.

I admin'd a MUD once where we tried to tell people to stop having mudsex.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but for the sake of example, if we had like 100 active accounts, after we had like 20. I think it's less about the mudsex and more about the perceived restriction of freedom to RP, maybe? I don't remember the reasoning behind all the complaints anymore. But there were a lot.

I strongly disagree with taking away roleplay options for players. This mud has always been a place where one could, essentially, truly play that extremely cruel and nasty dude and roleplay it out to make that awesome movie experience for people.

Consent Rule. I always thought this existed for those who did not want to see those sorts of things. If this changes I do not know if Arm will hold the same merit with me.

Thanks for the work on the other changes as I think they will be helpful.

The use of the word "noble" by any commoner in the game will now be punishable by death in Allanak and, in Tuluk, by death, by hanging, to result in death. But no one will see it. "Death," being the offender not being around anymore, "Tuluk" to mean anywhere in the north not associated directly with Luir's or the Tablelands, the second "death" meaning the offender is to be doused in oil and set on fire for the pleasure of any nobility who wish to attend the burning, and "hanging" meaning being torn limb from limb by that one really awesome noble pc who's been in the game longer than most of your characters if you haven't been playing longer than three RL years.

I fully support all of these changes.  The staff knows what is best for us, and with the influx of new accounts I feel that these measures will help the MUD grow into a family friendly, well designed paradise of Rp for all of us to enjoy.

It's the restriction on RP. I feel there should ALWAYS be consent. As many people don't want to do this. Or maybe only want to do it every once in a while. But it's a game, and most roleplayers don't want there roleplay to be restricted for asinine reasons.

I've been playing this game for a long time now. I remember listening my mother scream at me to get off the %##$@ computer, because it's late.
Now I'm 30, and have a wife and child. I 'grew up' with this game, and it makes me very upset that suddenly we're shifting to a PG theme. I've never
been one to enjoy sitting in a tavern, mindlessly chatting like it's some kind of soap opera. Some players love that, and more power to them. I like to
rp violence and struggle. I could care less about the sex roleplay, but some of my fondest memories are of my character torturing another, or being
tortured by another. My FIRST experience with this mud involved my character having her tongue cut out by a Templar and it's what hooked me to the
game and kept me coming back. I think you're making a mistake and while I'm not a lawyer I think you have less legal liability then any random porn
website on the internet for keeping underage children from seeing things they shouldn't or experiencing things they shouldn't.

Some Material May Not Be Suitable For Children": The Rating Board applies this rating when the members believe the film contains themes or content that parents may find inappropriate for younger children. The film can contain some profanity, violence or brief nudity, but only in relatively mild intensity. A PG film should not include drug use.

This is ambiguous.
Is the intent to make the game in line with a PG definition?
That to say violence "only in relatively mild intensity"?

And no drug use as in a removal of one of the core themic elements (spice) from the game?

It's the restriction on RP. I feel there should ALWAYS be consent. As many people don't want to do this. Or maybe only want to do it every once in a while. But it's a game, and most roleplayers don't want there roleplay to be restricted for asinine reasons.

Why are the reasons asinine?  There are legal and moral reasons to do this and I would like to hear your description about why the reasons are asinine.
