Frequently used words

What're some words that you just oh so love that you either
A) Insert into your emotes, says, contacts, psis or what have you at any opportunity
or
B) Can't find enough situations that would warrant the use of said word

I have tons of words that I never get to use, and tons of words I use so often that if I mentioned them here that you'd all know who I play. Not like I haven't been in enough clans that everybody doesn't already know. But whatever.

You can do always do well by cheapening a $10 word with a contraction; the contraction makes it sound quaint rather than highfalutin'.  (If you overdo this, you wind up with True Grit; I leave it to you to whether this is desirable.)

It's rare that I don't change something about the way my character speaks when I go from one character to another. Emoting's an entirely different matter -- I don't think the word "giving" has ever been more sorely abused than when I've gone and tried to mix up and vary my stock emotes somewhat.

I've been recognizing your PCs since 2008. That's right. It's actually carried over from different characters on a different game.

I just want to go on the record to say that I dislike necker and gicker.  I do not like them at all.

How did "necker" become slang for elf I have no idea.  Point-ear, I get it.  Sharp, I get that.  necker is kinda short for longneck and that only reminds me of a beer bottle.  I could even work with 'nicker' which might be "someone who nicks."

Just sayin'.

And as far as gicker - sure we can shorten Allanak - sounds good.  'nak.  Tuluk really should remain  "Tuluk" and not "luk"  (but that's another post or at least another paragraph) but a magicker is a magicker or a witch, a finger-wriggler (not my favorite) or gemmer or one of the gemmed. 

Hrm.  Maybe I should throw together a character concept of a slang-nazi and backstab anyone who uses words on his/her pet peeve list.   

The world we have is so rich and rife with possibilities for interesting slang expressions.  Halfbreed, mixed-blood and the once used mud-blood (some PC used it in front of one of my characters once - I assume others use it) have so much more tonality or depth than half-necker or whatever variation of 'necker one would use.

Now - on Tuluk - "The Ivory" has so much more character than 'luk.'  The images that it brings to one's mind - very nice.  If you happen to not like the city, find something else - the shithole might work well.  =)  That "pile of rocks" (maybe reminiscent of when it WAS a pile of rocks?) or the barbarian city.

Now - to be on topic - my characters often use the work "fek" or more rarely "feck" rather than the obvious RL swear.  I know some folks hate "fek" but I find it a nice narrative tool to seperate RL from fantasy and it seems less crude - like arse instead of ass or shite instead of shit, though shite sounds too Irish or something to my ear. 

I do wish kanks were still around because there are some many useful words with kank in them, though Gith works well - erdlu, beetle and inix just doesn't have the same ring.

I don't see why the extinction of kanks from the world should wipe out the word from the world's vocabulary.

There are still people alive that have seen kanks.  There may even be characters alive who have too.

Furthermore, to look to our own language, plenty of words have archaic roots that not longer exist/apply in the modern world, slang and profanity included.

Neck, as in throat.
A 'necker' will just as soon slit your throat as look at you.

I like 'gicker and 'Nak.  I can't stand 'Luk. Tuluk is short enough already. And as DustMight said, it has no character.  Besides, it is disrespectful to the Sun King.

Also both I seldom use the apostrophe on Gicker and Nak now.  Since they have become such common phrases, I don't feel that they any longer need it.

Yeah, I always preferred the use of "kanking" more as the epithet variant of "fucking" as opposed to describing the act.
