It's very hard to play a -poor- merchant who can't make enough money to save their own hide, but it's doable. And it's friggen awesome and fun.

Buying all materials from shops instead of scavenging them, and then practicing things I'm bad at keeps my merchants dirt poor for a very long time.

Once skills increase to where you're breaking even, it's just a matter of OOC laziness. (You /could/ go out and craft a large worth of things to sell... Or you could just poke the breed at the bar you're already in instead, so you don't have to walk anywhere).

(He's kidding. I hope. That actually would not work, anyway.)

That's right it wouldn't work. You have to hide your coins before you attack the guard then you respawn with double the coins.

Oh my god he's still rocking the sandwich.

What I do with new characters:

I login

I /InstallInfobar()
I turn on mana if applicable.

I check my skill list.

I reread any helpfiles I'm unsure about.

I point to Allanak.

I now buy newbie gear!

I then run to the stores I need for the rest of my stuff.

I try to remember to hit score before two hours passes.

I consider whether or not I should reroll my stats.

I start doing whatever goal my character has (if I'm indie it's find an apartment. If I'm hoping to be clanned it's survive long enough to find a clan leader).
