If you get a successful hide, then a successful sneak into another room
will you still be hidden?

Hiding is one of those skills that you can't determine its success, only its failure.

In otherwords, you don't really have any way of knowing if you're hidden or just being ignored.. but you DO have a way of knowing if you've been caught standing there out in the open.

As for mechanics...I'll try to be vague enough to satisfy the purists and still help with info:

It is possible to hide, and then sneak around town unseen.

In addition, if you become very good at staying in the shadows, it is possible to do certain things and still remain in the shadows, although someone might notice the shadow, sorta.
